Gotta wonder if this is related to his kid who has special medical issues. Sometimes family really does come first. Always had hoped he would come to Austin when Mack left but wasn’t in the cards.

Yeah in a parallel universe, Peterson waits one more year at Boise and then we end up with him instead of Strong.

Our world would most likely be a lot different the last 6 seasons, that's for sure. This guy, Jimmy Lake sounds like he might be a person to talk to about the OC position, he has the experience. Just a thought.

Excellent coach and count me as another one who wanted him on the 40 acres. He's a west coast guy though and I do think something about the climate out there being a factor re: child medical issues. He wasn't ever going to come to Austin but he's always impressed me and I've rooted for him for years. :hookem:

I was about to post basically just what El Sapo said only he said it way better.

If he happens to still be available whenever we next need a new coach, I hope we at least talk to him; not like that loses us anything if he doesn't want to leave the NW.

As a UT fan and a Washington fan (hence the user ID HornDawg), I'm sorry to see him leave U-Dub. He solidified the program after a series of less-than-perfect hires. If he somehow ends up on the Forty Acres somewhere down the road, you'll get no complaint from me.

Lake was the DC under Petersen at UW and coached a couple of years with him at BSU. He was a dark horse candidate in my mind for DC at Texas.

Petersen has taken a Leadership role in the Athletic Department at UDub to recharge his batteries. I wonder if he would like to recharge them in Austin for three years as OC? Lake is starting at $3M the first year.

Yeah, UW is my second alma mater also.

Just occurred to me that promoting Lake definitely throws a fresh log on the Apple Cup fire. In case you missed his quote about Mike Leach after this year's game....

    Zang! :lmao:

Peterson is a stand up guy, fine coach, does things the right way. Any school would be fortunate to have him.

Much respect for that guy. Hate to see him leaving the coaching ranks but he knows what is best for him - I hope that's it.
    Good luck Coach Pete.

Doubtful on two levels. One, he is reportedly still pissed about how Texas "abused" his boy Harsin. Two his son requires special medical attention. Hospitals in Seattle had to be vetted throughly before he moved to U-Dub. Not sure he would want to move again.

What is this referring to (other than maybe our lack of getting him a quality QB or OL to work with)?

Obviously the kid's health stuff is his private business (and he seems to intentionally not let on too much details), so maybe there's a reason the NW of the country is better for their family, but just in general there are certainly plenty of high-quality medical centers in the region here.

Peterson was our unofficial head coach in waiting, waiting for Brown to step down. He was really pissed at everyone in Austin for the way MB treated Harsin, So much so that there was NEVER any chance of him coming to the Forty Acres. Peterson then went about helping Harsin get his next two jobs. Kinda surprised that he didn't hand him the keys to UW.

Again, what is this referring to?

Did not know that Harsin was mistreated here. I thought Texas kept him as long as he wanted to be here and then he moved on.

Harsin thought Texas was bringing him in as Co-OC with Applewhite for a year then Mack would be dismissed and he would be the HC (with Applewhite assuming the OC role) So in Peterson's eyes, Harsin (who Peterson considered a son) was a victim of a bait and switch scam.

That doesn't really sound like much to carry a grudge over as a third party, unless Mack Brown personally made a literal "I guarantee I will resign after 1 year and then you'll be head coach" promise straight to Harsin.

I don't quite see that being a reality given the previous head coach in waiting experience with Muschamp.

Will's "in waiting" title was only a way to get him more money. He was never going to be HC and he knew it. Even though the athletic department is self funding, the educrats watch closely the expenditures. It's a political deal. New title, new salary.

BO, note I said, "Harsin thought". He is a bright guy and from what he could see on the field Brown was a washed-up coach still trying to coach. He assumed part of his job was to educate Applewhite on the Boise offense so when he took over HC the OC he wanted would already be in place.

Possibly, but that was far from clear/certain after one bad season that had come right after a span of only 9 losses over 6 consecutive seasons.

Petersen's son has Angelman Syndrome. Seattle has what is considered the foremost expert on this pretty rare condition. A good friend of mine moved to Seattle for the same reason though their daughter has the condition.

After experiencing Petersen these last 6 years I don't think he's a fit for Texas. He's too nice, not cocky or cutthroat enough for Texas football fans.

Kind of describes Darrel Royal's public side.

He came here from UW too.

Kind of crappy they made him play Boise State in his final game.
