Saw him playing TE tonight. I thought he was waived down the road. Glad he is actually playing.

Seahawks Have Swoopes, Poona, Dickson and Qadre Diggs. Carroll has never shied away from Longhorns on his team.

I think it might have been Quandre who made the interception for Seattle.

Funny how certain teams gravitate to Texas players. No doubt Carroll likes us. Detroit is another that comes to mind over the years.

Yeah, it's kind of like the 69 Jets with Joe Namath. There were about four Texas players that were instrumental to the success of that Jets team who with Texas beat Joe Namath and 'Bama in the 65 Orange Bowl.

Yep, I watched that game. My folks and I went to the Cotton Bowl game earlier that day an saw Arky beat the Cornhuskers 10-7. Then watched the Orange Bowl that night. All that was covered during the week before was about Joe Namath. As I recall, even though Namath lost he was still named the MVP, which sucked.

First telecast of a night bowl game.

It was a magnificent game with Texas winning via the long pass and Nobis stopping a hurt Namath at the goal line to preserve the victory and Texas' unbeaten streak against 'Bama and (I think) Bear Bryant also..

The Alabama center would later (a few years) write an article for Sports Illustrated about that game. He said that after the sting of losing, what he remembered most was the class of DKR and the Longhorn football team. Knowing that Namath was injured and facing the largest contract ever from either the NFL or AFL, he recounted how play after play Texas never hit Namath's legs.

Of all things I remember about my Mother it was her devotion to the Longhorns - that's what hooked me. But what I want to say is I can remember her telling me "watch them when they rush" in that game and pointing out the hands up rush and how they purposely avoided killing Joe with low blows when they obviously had the opportunity. Made me the Longhorn fan I am today. I miss her every day.

Mom sounds pretty astute about football. Yeah, they could have wrecked Namath's bad knee, but they did not.

You had a very wonderful mother.

That's why I'm not a Cowboys fan. My dad would get so mad when the Cowboys wouldn't draft any Texas players in the last 70-80's so when Earl went to the Oilers he came home with an Oilers jacket for me. Unfortunately, now I don't have an NFL team at all.

IIRC, the 1969 Jets had 4 Horns on the team:

    Pete Lammons - TE
    George Sauer - WR
    Jim Hudson - DB
    John Elliott - DL

There was an interesting article I read many years ago about those 4 and that team.

Quandre Diggs has been a godsend for the Seahawks defense. If the last few years have shown the Seahawks fans anything, it's the importance of the FS position in our Cover-3 scheme. Absent Earl Thomas our defense has struggled mightily, forcing us to abandon a single high safety for 2. Diggs midseason trade to Seattle has clearly reenergized the defense's big play ability. Their takeaways have increased dramatically since he was inserted into the starting role.

Most importantly, Diggs at FS allowed the Seahawks to drop McDougald into the box (ala Kam Chancellor) that dramatically enhanced the run defense.

Swoopes was the beneficiary of massive TE injuries for Seattle. Coming into the season TE's were as follows:

#1 Will Dissly: Great start to the year then season ending injury.
#2 Ed Dickson: Started year on IR...removed from IR the placed on IR again a few days later ending his season.
#3 Nick Vannett: Traded to Pittsburgh the week before Dissly was injured.
#4 Hollister: Traded from New England in preseason and started the year on the Practice Squad. He was the reason Swoopes was released. He's now our #1 TE and playing very well.
#5 Luke Willson: Former Seahawks TE that was cut by Oakland in Preseason. He was signed after Dissly was injured. He has a nasty hamstring injury that has kept him out the last few games.
#6 Swoopes: The Seahawks added him bacl to the practice squad when Dickson returned to IR. The Seahawks literally played a few weeks with 1 TE.

    * Backup OT George Fant has been playing significant snaps at TE/6th OL. It's funny seeing a 320lb TE in motion. The Seahawks have only attempted 1-2 passes to Fant.

Only Pete Lammons still survives, sadly.

Wasn’t Phil Harris on that team. I know he was drafted by the Jets

Maybe he was on the team sometime after graduation ('64 or '65?) but he was not on the 1969 Jets squad.

I was about to post the same thing. My family went to the game. The Horns were the epitome of class.

Thought UT fans might get a chuckle out of this. For context, Hollister was a QB in HS (Bend, OR) winning the state title his Sr year with a 37-3 TD/INT ratio.

Diggs had 2 picks Sunday night. The first one was incredible as he was playing safety on the right side of the field about 15 yards back, and must have read the play-call somehow, because the instant the ball was snapped he took off at full-speed forward and towards the other half of the field, to the exact spot where the slot receiver or TE had run about an 8-yard comeback. He came from so far away so fast that Goff never even saw him, and he picked it off in full sprint and continued to the endzone essentially un-pursued since he was beyond them and gone so quickly.
