...as the new offensive coordinator at The University of Texas, what are some things you would immediately do?
    (Short bulleted version please)

And now as the defensive coordinator same question..

[By the way, congratulations! You're on the hot seat now. ...Yes, already.]

I'd fire Wareheim. I'd Bring back Jeff Traylor to take Wareheim's place. I'd hire Samples back from SMU and give the other WR gig to the guy currently coaching the WRs.

In some ways I'd keep the pro spread offense, but I'd also incorporate a little more two back sets. Biggest change I'd do is train Sam how to do two things. 1. Teach him the value of a pump fake. 2. create opportunities to utilize the middle of the field. 3. I would run formations with a minimum of 8 runny plays and 8 passing plays that can be run out of this set. I would make sure that there is no way in god's green earth that an opposing DC will know what is coming just by the formation we line up in.

If I were the incoming DC.
Base Defense would be the 42 over defense with 5 Dbs. This defense on the strong side of the ball lines up like a 3-4 line and on the weak side like a 4-3 alignment. You will always have 4 down linemen rushing the ball but many times a 5th will be coming as well.

I would de-emphasize hard hitting in place of sure tackling. I'd make this defense run pursuit drills at every practice.

probably a few other things, but mostly I'd make sure the assistants are teaching each player how to properly play their position.

But that doesn't get you on the ESPN highlite reel, except as a highlite for the offense.

I think I would run the I formation, the formation Ricky ran. The primary formation.
    2) I would go fast pace most of the time.
    3) sometimes I would go 1 back set or no back set but always have a receiver in motion thru the backfield.
    4) I love QB bootlegs and wheel routes
    5) during these fast pace plays I would now and then jump into a wishbone and pictch the ball.
    6) Roschon would throw the the ball from the running back position, out and up.
    7) 2nd string QB would play every Game at least one series maybe two.
    8) utilize tight ends for heaven sake. I mean throw the ball to them.
    9) throw the ball as the receiver makes his cut so that the ball gets there early. I would practice that.
    Defense
4-2-5 with dbs up tight on the inside shoulder. Bump but don't lunge be able to run and look back when the receiver looks.

Is this sarcasm or did I take a time machine to 1977? What decent team in college football today runs any I formation? Or wishbone? Even the option teams like Navy don't use it.

    That's there loss.
Hmm I think championships were run with those formations and would other teams be prepared to stop us. I believe in variety.

This. The biggest failure of Brown (and it cost him another MNC), Strong, and Herman.

Also, the Pistol formation (which is the ou base set) is as close to an I as you want to get playing in the Big XII. Unless you have a superior defense, the idea is to score points because the opponent is going to score.

Everything that was old is new again. Let's put in the run and shoot.

Think about it, all the Big 12 teams are built to stop the spread, pass happy offense everyone runs now. Well, how about we hit you with a ground and pound run and shoot offense? We can put 200 yards on you on the ground and burn up clock but wait...... while you try and stop that we have an over the top game and put 200 yards on you passing.

    Just a dream I know.

I would just keep staring at my bank account and smile. Then look at the cruises I would take after I was let go. Keep saying all day, God Bless Texas. And thank you

    Well, that works also.

Seams like a bunch of coaches have been doing that the last 10 years.

I would occasionally Wildcat with Roschon at QB and Sam as RB.

    On 3rd and 8, I would not throw a 2 yard pass.

    I would start John Chiles.

I would recruit a dominant tight end and use him.

Okay we’re now 1/3 of the way to a national championship,

Alright, when are we rounding up the Californians?

Cattle trucks with first stop at Port City Stockyards. That should scare them enough not to come back.. Then trip along the border back to the Salton Sea, and dump them back there - it is in Cali-prune-ya

I’de run a two back set with lots of formations. Inverted wishbone shotgun, pistol, single back from both sides, power I shotgun. I would not go under center other then 4th and inches.or on my own goal line. I’ve buy a black Alfa Romeo C4 Spider and be jovial all the time. Cause I’m stinkin rich!

I’de hire Chris Ash for DC and Joe Brady for OC. We would run Ash’s 4-3 quarters defense. We would kick some ***. I’de be a CEO coach. Then ide wake up cause I was snoring too loud in my dream again!

Personally...Look for a house in Austin.
Team...Meet the offensive players and let them know that EVERY position is up for grabs this Spring...EVERY position...including QB.
Long term...Install a multiple offense ( and yes that would include the I formation when we got under center ) that would impose our will, take advantage of mismatches, and trick the hell out of anyone we needed to.

Pretty sure Roschon has expressed a desire to play QB next season.
