Cotton Bowl used to be a New Years Day bowl, right?

Yes, still is. One of the New Year's Six, which means it's also in the rotation as one of the playoff semifinals.

During the BCS era, wasn't one of the BCS bowls, but was the next tier down, usually both teams were ranked. Similar to the Alamo Bowl or Citrus Bowl these days.

With OU winning the Big 12 and all Pac-12 teams holding two or more losses, it looks likely OU is in the playoffs and Baylor is in the New Year's Six.

With a four-way tie for 3rd place, the Big 12 bowls can essentially select anyone they want after OU and Baylor (technically, that's always true, but they usually make their choices in the order of the standings). Texas holds the official tiebreaker for 3rd place, but that doesn't matter as far as the bowls are concerned. The selections will be made on the most desirable draw.

Texas is the biggest name among the four-way tie (the others being OSU, KSU, and ISU), but OSU is ranked in a poll or two, whereas Texas isn't, nor found among "others receiving votes". I'd say it's a coin flip whether Texas or OSU gets selected first by the Alamo Bowl, and the other will likely wind up in the Camping World Bowl in Orlando.

Not sure what I'd prefer. Alamo Bowl is supposedly more prestigious, would essentially be a home field advantage, and there's a good chance we'd draw Utah, which sounds like an exciting game.
But we've been to the Alamo Bowl plenty of times, and a new venue sounds fun. Also, the Camping World Bowl might match us up against Notre Dame, which sounds just as good as (or better than) Utah. Camping World vs. Virginia also sounds decent; Virginia's not a bad team, they're a "Public Ivy" like Texas (I, for one, respect that), and it's been decades since we played them. And they have scoreboard; we need to fix that.

    Y'all's thoughts?

    Consider:

oSu's largest alumni chapter is Houston, 180 miles away. Second largest is Dallas.

K-State travels well and stays a couple of days

ISU was there last year and had about 45,000 fans in San Antonio, almost all of whom stayed 5-8 days.

As for UVA, after their loss tonight, they'll get the Orange Bowl against either Florida or State Penn.

I would like Camping World vs ND. Virginia would be great too. I was at the 95’ game when Dawson kicked the game winner. Would love to play Virginia. I think we’ll get the Camping World Bowl. Sounds like UVA is unlikely, so ND then.

I think we lose to Notre Dame, but have a shot against Utah. I also have club level tickets to the Alamo Bowl and would prefer that every time if we are not in a NY6/Tier 1 Bowl. Come on Alamo Bowl!

Also, as someone who attends the Alamo Bowl regularly, I can confirm it is the most full when a Texas team plays there, especially UT. UT (and Tech, A&M and Baylor) have filled the stadium with a lot more fans than Iowa State, Kansas State or Oklahoma State. The only Texas team that has a good turnout but does not really fill the stadium up is TCU.

Kansas State has the worst turnout of those mentioned and should not be in the discussion. I am not sure the Iowa State fans will make the trip two years in a row. They still did not get anywhere near the turnout as UT does. Oklahoma State has a good turnout, but the stadium is nowhere near as full as when Texas plays there.

Also, I am not sure if there is a thread for this, but my top 4 for the playoff would be in this order:
    1. Clemson
    2. LSU
    3. tOSU
    4. OU

I think Clemson and LSU are the two best teams and hope they meet in the championship. I am not sure who would win between them. I have Clemson #1 because a team with 28 game win streak deserves to be #1 until they lose. Also, they played the easy schedule last year then easily handled Notre Dame and Alabama in the playoffs.

I just am not convinced tOSU is as good as the others. They did not play any power 5 conference teams in their non-conference.

OU sucks and is going to lose regardless of who they play.

Alamo Bowl will surely pick UT. Biggest crowd means $$$. I do not think anyone else would fill the house.

I hope it is the Alamo Bowl. It is a good time when the dome is packed with burnt orange.

True, but does the city hosting the bowl game have any input? The hotels and restaurants would probably prefer a school whose fans will stay for a couple or three days and spend money instead of the one-day road-trippers.

X and Y have a lot of football to play! :p

Honestly ... I'm still funked by the post OU meltdown. Call me what you will .... I don't give a big rip ... 2019 is a significant regression rather than a marked improvement.

Need big time coaching improvement overall whereas I thought entering the season it was a minor concern.

Certain groups not affiliated with either school have worked hard on that matchup in NRG. Our players seemed to think it would happen. Now looks like the Aggies vs Dust Bowl Aggies.

Seems to me a win over the aggies would be great for recruiting. A loss not so much. Is that the problem?

Utah will be pissed having to play an unranked team. Don’t blame them. In my opinion they represent a much greater challenge than ND would have been . Gonna take maximin effort by both offense and defense. Collin playing? Anyone know for sure?
Hope we come up with some new aggressive tactics we’ll need them. Regardless got my tickets and hotel, Hookem!!!
