More bad press from Espn.com. The thought of Texas getting wiped out on national tv. is scary as heck. Every game feels like it used to when they played UConn.

    5. Texas-Tennessee is one of the oldest series in women's college basketball. How relevant is this game this season?
Charlie Creme: This is a chance for Texas to save a sinking season. The recent trip to Hawaii for a Thanksgiving holiday tournament was telling, if not disastrous. The Longhorns lost to NC State and host Hawaii and just slipped by North Texas. They need an injection of confidence and to showcase that the whole can at least closely resemble the sum of the parts. A win over a seemingly improved Tennessee team might do the trick. The Lady Vols look improved under Kellie Harper but need to demonstrate it against a higher level of competition.

Graham Hays: Unfortunately, the luster is off the Texas-Tennessee series after a brief resurgence produced some high-stakes games in recent seasons. Texas is better than a .500 team, but it hasn't beaten anyone better than North Texas to get to 4-4 -- and it hasn't beaten anyone at all in a true road game. As Charlie notes, that makes it close to a must-win for Texas and a no-win for Tennessee, which either beats a team that then has a losing record or loses to a rebuilding rival. The game is relevant, but only as a sort of a play-in game for continued relevance this season.

Mechelle Voepel: You have to wonder if things seem more than a little desperate for Texas after such a rough start, and can the Longhorns channel that into an upset? Can post players Joyner Holmes and Charli Collier establish a strong presence in the paint? It might seem harsh, but Texas has to make an upward move soon to gain some confidence.

It is hard to believe that the team has declined so quickly. I think the transfers out must really be hurting the recruiting.

We’re about to play a really big Tennessee team - tallest team in Tennessee program history. I’m not sure I can watch... of course I’ll watch, but I am nervous as all get out...

That'll do it... especially when you add to the equation the fact that you've failed to develop and achieve with those you HAVE been able to keep in the program.

Player development is the main thing but I’ll continue to say OVER recruiting was another.

Sadly Texas Women’s basketball is irrelevant today and this will be a blowout.
Tennessee meanwhile made a change and is trending up.

Keep in mind... there IS enough talent on our roster, and with our starting five in particular, to beat a lot of good teams. Anything is possible regarding them suddenly getting it together and starting to play well in spite of the poor direction from the sidelines. I don't expect it and I'd be surprised if it were to happen, but I wouldn't be totally shocked. As I said before... there are FOUR former Top 10 rated recruits in that starting lineup. How many other teams can say that? I haven't done the research but I'm guessing the answer is VERY FEW if any.

Great point! I hate to see over-recruiting. Speaking of Tennessee, it used to bother me to see them stack up so many HS All-Americans back when Pat was at the helm. Many talented players didn't get a chance to grow into their full potential due to lack of playing time.

Lots of talent wasted at Tennessee during those years, but the one glaring difference is it never affected their results. Pat got seven national championships out of it where we haven't even SNIFFED a conference title. Again... COACHING (or rather lack thereof).

Meanwhile this game didn’t even justify coverage in Austin’s hometown paper. Hopefully once CDC has the football coaching hires handled he can focus on women’s basketball.

Tennessee Lady Vols seem a little concerned about the game, but only to order their fans to wear the correct orange for ESPN2.

I'll never forget this game at Knoxville from 2 years ago. It was a huge eye-opener for me in terms of clear and obvious deficiencies of coaching. For some reason Karen agreed to be mic'd up for the game, and everything she was heard to say was just super negative talk at her own players ("You look scared!" "They're trying to give you the game, and you don't want it!"). For me personally it was a turning point from optimism and serious concern.

Texas up 12. You go girls! Best couple of quarters we’ve had all season. Excellent.

I say, put Collier in and let her play until she fouls out...or not. What good does it do to save her?

I'll say this for Tennessee. Their fans come to the game and support the team. Even the last few years when they were struggling and losing, the fans still showed up. Texas has only fair weather fans it seems.

Great game!!! We looked so much more patient running our offense, and we have FINALLY learned the value of the pump/shot fake! Like I said earlier, I wasn't expecting it but I'm not shocked. :coolnana:

I said about a month ago the play of sug sutton will determine the success of this team. Its not like they dont have the talent they definitely do it's just they had nobody to make plays. We all said Texas can matchup with anyone in terms of position it's just knowing what to do with them has been the problem. I truly believe this was the breakout game for sug and she will be back to her old self if not better from now on.

    And we were outrebounded.

This match is a head scratcher.

    Nice win for the horns!

I like Coach Nooner standing at the sideline with 5 seconds left in the game and being sure everyone is in the right position. I like Karen allowing him to do so.
