do these people really quietly lurk around waiting for someone to talk about them, so they can jump out of the closet?

Gotta root for Army. Grandfathers, dad, and uncles were all Army or Army Air Force.

This made me curious enough to look it up as well.

    Link

The top 5 are all Tech QBs, most of them before the spread offense became widespread (2010 or so). B.J. Symons is still #1.

Throw in Sonny Cumbie and 6 of the top 7 are from Tech. 5 of the top 7 played for Leach. Good gravy, Leach was ahead of his time. The only reason his teams aren't still setting jaw-dropping records is everyone else has started copying him, with better athletes. He'll never get the credit he's due.

#9-15 are mostly from OU, in the past 10 years or so.

Colorado, ISU, Kansas, KSU, Nebraska, Texas, TCU, and A&M aren't represented at all. That's more than half of the Big 12, past and present. All of the top 25 passers in the past 23 seasons came from only six universities (Baylor, Missouri, OU, OSU, Tech, and WVU).
64% were from either OU or Tech. 40% of them from Tech alone. 28% under Mike Leach. In a span of seven years, Mike Leach QBs produced more top 25 seasons than any other school managed from 1997-2019.

15 of the top 25 seasons have happened in the past ten years.
The other 10? Two from Chase Daniel of Missouri (2007-2008). One from Sam Bradford of OU (2008).
The remaining seven (in a row, 2002-2008) were all Mike Leach QBs.

20 of the top 25 have happened since 2007, and all those that came before were Mike Leach QBs.

    Seems like it sometimes.

To be fair, our pals from Louisiana have been my favorite guests on these boards.

    Yes.

Actually, this is a fun board that I really like. And we play again next September so I have a continuing interest in your team, plus we're strategic competitors in recruiting due to proximity. So there's a few reasons I pop in here frequently to see what's going on.

In this particular case, I really like statistics so your post interested me to look at the data. And that thought popped into my head when I saw no Texas QBs on the list.

Really enjoy your informative posts, but that one was too fun to pass on.

Nice job Midshipmen. As long as Niumatalolo sticks around, Navy will field a good team and pop into the Top 25 frequently. They've really got it going on in Annapolis. Now that Memphis has lost its coach, and Shane is one and done at SMU, Navy has a real shot at some conference title(s). Of course, Navy beat SMU this year, even with Shane QBing the Ponies. Cincy may be their big nemesis for most years.

Something about a Service Academy (or better yet, more than one) hanging out in the Top 25 sits well with me.

I think it was around the 80’s when the Air Force was a legitimate competitor most years, and in the top 25 often. Maybe they’ll get it back soon.

Thanks and best wishes to both of your (BevoJoe’s and AC’s) kids in the service. I was a Navy man myself, but I’ll say this for the ground forces (Army and Marines)—no matter how arduous the underway, when we finally got some sleep, it was in a dry rack at a decent temperature without rain, sleet, hail, snow, bugs, etc. Our Army and Marine compadres in the field didn’t often have that luxury.

Thanks so much to all my Hornfans friends for the well wishes for Anna! She’s doing great and watched the Army Navy game at her base. Enjoyed that! Wish Army had won but Navy was too much for them this year. BevoJoe I wish your son all the best and pray for a safe return home.

Is that so? Well then, if Shane is back next year, then SMU should be primed for another good run. Navy should be fine. Not sure about Memphis without their coach.

He red shirted in 2018 and 2019 would have been his regular senior season. He was able to graduate last spring and was able to play this season as a grad transfer with two seasons of eligibility.

Shane really played it well and made the move he had to make. And he did so without burning down bridges. I cheer for the guy and have never wished him any ill will. Shane and Coach Dykes have put SMU back on the football map. And I think they’ve done it this time without cheating. (As far as I know)

Oh yeah, almost forgot: I also dig their stylish “Dallas” uniforms.

Well, I think we have a winning record against everybody in our conference or anyone who used to be in our conference (such as Arkansas), so that would be one slight distinction.

Yeah the Arkansas comment was gratuitous and I wish now I had left it out. It was enough to marvel at the fact that Texas isn't in the top 25, would have thought for sure Colt McCoy at least was in there. Sort of like Joe Fan was marvelling at the SEC record not being enough to get in the top 10 seasons for the Big 12. After some reflection I don't think he was throwing shade at the SEC, just making an observation. Wish I had left the Arkansas jibe out of that post.

Well, I can readily think of another program whose fans like to brag about how good the SEC is, while their own team usually ranges from mediocre to sorry.

Iowa just ran a real nifty reverse from the six yard line for the score.

    Iowa 14
    USC 7

It’s tough to move the ball on this Hawkeye D, so the Trojans has better watch it.

now Epinesa with another sack for Iowa.
