If you've ever drawn the ire of a highly critical audience, you gotta pretty much understand that any sound you make can be interpreted in the most hostile way imaginable. It's Damn hard to cool a hot seat.

Some of the most important aspects of success in football is having coaches who can
    A. Adjust schemes and playcalling to maximize strengths and minimize weaknesses of available personnel
    B. Adjust game plans weekly to exploit deficiencies and undermine strengths of opponent
B 1/2 Be able to make effective in-game adjustments
    C. Have players motivated to give all for you and for their teammates (be a real team)
    D. Prepare players to know their job and do it (trusting teammates to do likewise) while still remaining loose and confident

There is more to it, of course, but these are things successful coaches do that our staffs have struggled with this decade. We need to hire people who can.

Well, Texas did run a 4 down front about 25% of the time. Also not having any experienced defensive backs at times kind of affects the pass rush.

Sorry to hear that. I've had those sorts of relationships, but they were one at a time.

The search rumors have certainly quieted. That leads me to believe that Herman may already have his guys but for obvious reasons, he cannot disclose them.

I wonder what he’s telling the recruits. Of course, we may never know.

That would be on a need to close basis only, and probably very circumstantial even then.

If the above posts are true and I know we’re all speculating, then it’s Ash and Harrell and TH plans to announce AFTER NSD (12/20).

This all makes sense to me. I hope that is the case and I like the hires. I hope Harrell and Herman can get along.

IF Herman has his OC/DC lined up ( verbal hand-shake ), he has told his recruits, who have committed, just who they are and when it will be announced.

He has already come out and said whoever he hires he just wants them to run it...its theirs, so there's that.

Inside Texas thinks Graham Harrell is leaning our way. They claim "talks have picked up substantially and a deal is more likely than not at this point." However, they also say Harrell's agent still thinks he might be able to land a HC position somewhere.

If he follows through, that would be a big deal. Assuming, of course, that he makes good selections.

Fast forward to the moment after the coordinators put ink to paper and sign their contracts.

Tom: “The offense [defense] is yours. You can do anything you want, just as long as you follow this binder to the letter.” [handing THE binder to the new coordinator].

Sure you can...sort of. Check Alabama and see how they sign 25-30 players every year. Haven't seen Clemson, Ohio State nor OU but I would imagine it's similar.

    Ash's decision.....hmmmm
On one hand go be DC at Texas where the HC is on the hot seat....
On the other go be DC at tOSU where the HC could get a raise and extended contract after making the play-offs, etc....
Really hard choice....if it comes to that.SMH

I see it quite differently. If you go to tOSU your defense better be at least as good as it was in 2019, but without Chase Young. Or, get the job done at Texas and make a name for yourself in doing so.

I don’t know if Ash is the right choice for us, but for him, if presented with that decision, it may come down to how much confidence he has in himself.

Did you miss the part about he likely wouldn't get to be in charge or call the plays at bucknut?

Be THE DC at UT, in charge of installing and calling the defense.
Have the opportunity to prove yourself at one of the top football programs in a climate where we wear short sleeves on Christmas day.

Or play side kick (co-DC) where someone else gets the credit and you live in the frozen tundra.

Seems an easy choice to me.

If Brown is reporting it, it has to be real, right? I mean has he ever given us bad information trying to improve his status, not that it could get worse.

Was it not Chip Brown that called Baylor and OU in the CCG pre-season?

This seems like an inordinately negative and narrow take ^^^.

Ash may like UT more that tOSU. He may like recruiting Texas kids to the flagship school in the state where the best HS football is played.

He may see UT as going up, and he may see tOSU as on top and nowhere to go but down.
