There will.be big overreactions to this game.
I do not think this years OU team really felt like they were the caliber of team to compete at this level (regardless of what Hurts said)... and the injury to Turner-Yell along with uspensions going in were a dagger. Those things often matter alot in bowl or championship games. This game had big LSU win written all over it going in...though this is ridiculous.
I believe OU will take a step back next year; and I think this game will help propel that..but they arent as bad nor as far away from the elites as they look today.
I'll add this. Outside of Big12 play, don't the Sooners usually lay an egg in big games...especially post season?

There was a story that towards the end one of the ou defensive ends ask an offensive lineman for USC if they could just run the ball and get the game over.

Arizona schools want no part of the Big XII, and vice versa. They want and need the California exposure.

Stanford and USC want zero part of the travel expenses associated with the Big XII, nor would they entertain such thoughts.

Even Coach O knows when to protect a lead, and his front line players.

The "discussion" on the field at the half could have gotten ugly. LSU doesn't want any starters or second teamers to lose any playing time against aOSU in the final.

Now I’m looking forward to Ed’a postgame speech. And hopefully one of our lurking pals from La. can translate it for us.

Best part so far is when Sean McDonough said: "LSU has almost hung half a hundred on them!"

Very ironic statement for us oldtimers!

The massacre we are watching has less to do with the weakness of the Big 12 and more to do with a mismatch: A dominant passing attack against a young and inept secondary. IMO, ISU, Baylor and yes even Texas would have given LSU a better game today.

I would hesitate to pronounce the Big 12 on the verge of collapse based on what we are seeing in this game.

But, to be honest, I’m loving it.

And thus the real issue involving Texas and anything other than the Big XII:
    • As long as Texas academia has any stroke, moving to the $EC will be a non-starter.
    • Same for the ACC as long as the convicts, FSU and VT are members.
    • The B1G? Playing football, baseball and running x-country and track in the snow doesn't energize anyone.
    • Academia would vote unanimously for the PAC-12, but putting up with the Stanford and USC antics would be like having 2 ou's to deal with.

agree. Texas could beat this OU team today. The suspensions and defensive injuries gutted OU.

Time for my obligatory conference primer:

We need to move to the PAC, and make it a 16 team league.

    4 - 4 Team Pods

    Southwest:
    Texas
    OU
    OSU
    ______

    Mountain:
    UT
    CO
    ASU
    AZ

    California:
    USC
    UCLA
    CAL
    Stanford

    PAC NW:
    Oregon
    OSU
    Wash
    WSU

The west coast games are too late, you say? Not really. Based on a schedule of playing every team in your Pod every year and two teams in every other Pod home & home, alternating two years, we would play one or perhaps two games — in some years — on the west coast.

Why couldn’t those games be scheduled to start at 6:00 PM PST? They could be. And they would be.

    The PAC-16 is the answer.

This game is certainly vindicating Tim Beck's decision to have us throw a dozen passes at or behind the the LOS against Oklahoma....

At this rate OU may start taking injuries just to get off the field and stop taking part in the pummeling.

Burrow, Jefferson, and others still in the the game up 5 scores in the 4th quarter is a very stupid risk.

Not sure why this game means the Pac-12 is a better option when they continually can't even make the playoffs. The only thing missing from the Big 12 getting more respect is Texas doing their part again. But that's for us, not for the sake of conference smack talk.

Dukesteer, I assume the 16 team PAC conference you propose would have a championship game? Who would get in it? The two conference teams with the best conference records, regardless of their pods?

    Duke,

Just curious, which do you favor?

    1) Dissolving the LHN and paying ABC $15 million a year for the remainder of the twenty years.

    2) Keeping the LHN and someway merging it with the PAC network, while sharing the $15 million each year with other members and pay the non Texas part back to ABC - roughly $14 million a year.
