Ouch. Doesn't look too interesting a matchup. Unless. thanks for sharing.

Oh, no. Let's not even contemplate the "unless." I am looking forward to a boring game. No multiple thousands of kids means maybe I can get some Amy's ice cream at halftime without missing the beginning of the third quarter.

My "unless" comment was pretty benign. Or not. Guess stuff like that just seeps into what's left of my brain cells. Now that you have made me paranoid about "unless", other words come to mind that my grandma and now my grandkids exclaim is...…"Oh My Stars !". That is the ultimate good East Texas phrase if something ominous were to happen sunday afternoon. Lord forbid. I did a search for Tougaloo College thinking you threw that one in to see if we were paying attention. Fortunately, the following is what I found for the 726 students currently enrolled.
"Tougaloo College is a private, historically black, liberal arts college in Tougaloo, Mississippi. It is affiliated with the United Church of Christ and Christian Church. Originally established in 1869 by New York–based Christian missionaries for the education of freed slaves and their offspring, from 1871 until 1892 the college served as a teachers' training school funded by the state of Mississippi. In 1998, the buildings of the old campus were added to the National Register of Historic Places."

I finally just turned the sound off my TV. Partly because of the kids screaming and partly because of the announcers. I cant imagine actually being in the Erwin Center with that noise. You deserve a medal. Or Amy's ice cream. Get some.

Southern University is in Baton Rouge.
    Texas Southern is in Houston.
    Both are in the SWAC.

Southern was actually picked to win the SWAC this year; TSU was picked 5th. But TSU does have Cynthia Cooper as its new head coach.

And that RGV team that we beat by what??? 16-17 pts? Anyway...they lost to TSU by about 30.

It sure was fun a couple of years ago. With McCarty and Atkins. Remember when? Mulkey truly felt threatened then as noted by her “no new sheriff” comment. And recruiting seemed to really good. How times changed. Many bad choices have this program nose diving like the Titanic. Hope is a wonderful thing. Lack of it is simply destroying. Anybody really have any hope it gets better this season, or next, or next?

When you are a season ticket holder, you just going to have to take it and frown. Having lived through the slow decline of Jody and the no great years of Gail, I'll just have to wait and see what kind of AD CDC is. I'm not going to stomp up and down screaming for a new coach (I did that the year before Gail stepped down). Frustrating, but I paid for the tickets (4 seats!) hoping each year will be better.

Unfortunately no, I don’t think it gets better this year. The players coming in next year are P5 Division 1 talent contrary to what some believe they’re just not the high end caliber. The overall talent level next year won’t be as good as it is this year. Coach Aston just hasn’t shown the ability to coach them up.

Collier, CTaylor, Palmer, Allen-Taylor, Warren, Routt and Ortiz return. Only the first two played meaningful minutes today. In the case of Warren and Ortiz return may be a misnomer...they have to play first. I think they can play and help. Routt nope. Add 5 new players which are four freshman that will need time to develop and one helpful transfer. It would really take great coaching to make a winning team out of that next year. Lots of great kids. They deserve “great coaching”. Alas, where to find it?

I don't think Mulkey ever felt truly threatened by Aston. We had TEN McDonald's All Americans on our roster and I think they were down to like 7 or 8 healthy players and they STILL kicked our *** and won the Big 12. Aston's record against Baylor is something like 1 and 17. When you don't get results with that kind of talent coupled with that frenetic REVOLVING DOOR at the scorer's table, yanking them IN AND OUT, IN AND OUT, and recruiting was going to take a nosedive at some point, which is exactly what a couple of us pointed out a while back. Like everyone else, I desperately wanted to believe in her and I supported her from the beginning. A couple of my old friends who are long time fans told me from day one that she was not going to get it done as did an AAU coach, but like so many, I initially buried my head in the sand not wanting to believe them. Aston has NEVER exuded the kind of confidence, swagger, command of x's and o's (particularly on the offensive end), player development, or ability OR willingness to make good in game adjustments to be an elite coach that can not only get you to the next level, but consistently keep you there!!!!

Really disappointed in the guard play of Sutton (shot 1 for 9, with 5 turnovers) and Higgs (shot 2 for 7, with 5 turnovers). Seems like they play when they want to. Don't know if it is physical, mental, or both. Might as well play Izzy and Joanne. Let them get some experience.

Seems like "they play when they want to" - which is rare. This is not a team - no apparent interest in each other's execution or success. They all seem to be playing as individuals. Despite this, JH and Charli will have impressive stats in games that we lose.

Audrey Warren played in the game today against Northwestern! I guess that settles the discussion about her red shirting this year. I really like the 8 man rotation! I believe it gives the team more continuity

She looked ok. Noticed she backed off taking a charge one time. Good decision. Usually she takes those. She looked rusty on her shooting but other aspects were encouraging. As much as we agree on the 8 man rotation, the team will need her. At some point, one of our 8 rotation will miss minutes due to fouls or injuries and she will be needed. Glad to have her back.

She played well for us as a freshman. I hope she can round back into form and stay away from injury.

Ok....I need some help here. Noticed a “new” tattoo on Warren’s shoulder/arm. Looked like an elephant with some other stuff. You young folks....what is the significance. Like is it a cultural statement? Or personal?

Noticed TCU got beat by Middle Tennessee by 12. MT is a pretty good team. So TCU is now 9-2, TTech is 11-0. In between is Iowa State which is getting better as you would expect from a Bill Fennelly team. None of those 3 are gimmes.

Iowa State? The Cyclones best win appears to be a game at Alabama in early December. Meanwhile, the Cyclones have lost to Drake, Iowa, and Northern Iowa, the only other games against teams within the Massey Ratings top 100. The Cyclones have been without junior point guard, Madison Wise, who has been out for a month or more with migraines. Poor kid!

You're overall point remains valid. Texas has had a hard time beating Iowa State as long as the Big 12 has existed. Still, I am looking for a win at home against TCU. If the Longhorns take care of business in that game, I will be hopeful about the road trip to Iowa State. (I will be very interested in Iowa State's conference opener at Texas Tech.) The Longhorns have the talent and the experience to win that game. Then for a big road game against ranked West Virginia who has a couple of good wins on its resume this year including at Mississippi State.

Anyone watching the Iowa State/Oklahoma game? The okies are killing them. This is really a bad ISU team. Maybe it wasn’t such a big win in Ames? We have a lot to prove in our Big 12 schedule.

Iowa State look a little physically outmatched at some positions and I don't think we will be saying that about many Big 12 opponents of OU! Coach Coale and Taylor Robinson are a great combo. Coach Fennelly has a well earned great reputation for limiting an opponent's top scorer but OU and Taylor found a way to get Taylor scoring opportunities in the second half. Mandy Simpson is a really good basketball player. She showed what she can do when she is not completely physically outmatched. Also excellent improvement from Madi Williams in last few games. For most of the teams in the Big 12, I think it is going to come down to match-ups and who is on in any given game. Texas is going to have to battle every game. If the team does that, they have a chance to win most games. Then there is Baylor. Baylor has an amazingly deep team of players that combine size, athleticism, skill, and team play.

Jeff Mittee gets more out of his players than most coaches! Tech was 12-0 going into Big 12 play but ole Miss was the only P5 school they played in the school! Tech of course beat TCU in Ft Worth and lost to ISU and K-State at home. Neither team looked very good to me but it is all about matchups! We sure have our work cut out for us!

A good article in the DMNews today regarding ACL tears on girls basketball players. There have been 28 Dallas area school girls that have ACL tears this summer and school year. There are about 3 times more ACL tears in girls than boys. Theories as to why involve overuse (AAU type kids may play 80 games a year from 9 years old), physiology differences in girls hips/knees and all associated parts, specializing in one sport and thereby not building up other muscles, etc. Plus after tearing one knee, the other knee is more susceptible to the same injury. ACL injuries are one reason that girls basketball has 15 scholarships vs 13 for boys. I recommend reading this article......especially if you have daughters/grandaughters. My daughter was fortunate but she also played volleyball and softball so perhaps that helped her. She had other really tough injuries like broken foot, broken wrist, Osgood Schlatter knee...…….but nothing on ligaments. The ACL tear is the worse for any girl. Sad but true.

Excellent article by the DMN. "“I think there is overuse involved with some of these injuries,” Dallas Wings team doctor Jit Mookerjee said. “A lot of these athletes are playing year-round, and they don’t take any time off.” Why are torn ACLs happening so frequently to Dallas-area girls basketball players? A look at an epidemic with no easy answers
