Gotta make a hire before NSD and hope that they bring some recruits with them!

A lot of people are pointing their finger at the Utah DC, if they do hire him then I expect to see a push to get Fillinger back.

If it were my check, I would be making a hard push for the DC at Georgia and possibly have him bring his DB coaches with him. My second choice would be to raid LSU for some of their defensive coaches.

However, if I were a betting man, I would probably bet on Ash being named the new DC. He knows the players and he is a hell of a DC while at tOSU.

If Warehime isn't fired, then he must have some crazy photos of Herman and CDC. How do you not fire the special teams coach after this horrible season.

Some coaches I think will get a strong look.
    Samples
    Jeff Traylor
    Chris Ash

I've read a few other names but I don't know them.

As for the OC. just my .02 cents, but I'd throw a 2 million contract at Joe Brady to see what LSU's response is, if they match I'd counter with 2.5 million. I'd be willing to go as high as 3 million to force LSU's hand or weaken them for next year.

If after that we don't get him, then I'm offering a contract to Harrell and secure his services. This is Chess and I think we can kill LSU by tying up their assistants to big money and then going after Aranda and their DB coach.

F those inbred swamp aggys, they need to be taught a lesson in business.

That's exactly how the game is played. Out money the other programs. However, the down side is Brady has never been the play caller, while Harrell has that experience. TH knows his job is on the line next year, so he has to get it right this time with his coordinator choices.

What player(s) who have decommited from Texas have been successful elsewhere? Not saying it’s a Texas thing, just think some of these kids are more problems than stars.

If one can design a successful offense and be a good quarterback coach with a good quarterback, one does not need to worry so much about offensive play-calling per se.

Looks like we are playing Utah in the Alamo bowl, should be a good opportunity to show Fillinger where Texas stands with respect to Utah.

Especially if we can mud hole them. I don't mean merely beat them, but rather stomp the everlovin' pee-doo out of them.

Have we done that to anyone in the last decade?

Lot of things we haven't done in the past decade. No time like the present to start, and make this the start of the decade of no quarter for opponents.

    Dear Utah,

By now you realize that you, you just played a Blue Blood program in the Alamo bowl. I know it came as a shock, but you must realize that Texas is Texas for a reason. It's not because we are in the 2nd largest state in the United States with the 2nd largest population. It's because we are in the 2nd largest state with the 2nd largest population and the most rabid football fans in the United States. That means we grow a ton of great high school football players here.

I know you know this, because you have been recruiting this state for some time. You like what we have to offer.

Texas is Texas because the majority of those talented football players dream of getting a scholarship to Texas. And not just those kids, but kids from all over the United States. In good times and bad, Texas is Texas. You are Utah, if you were in Texas, we would call you Texas Tech. If you were in Louisiana, you would Louisiana Tech.

Congrats on a great season, you did your state proud, but you aren't Texas. To the recruits you stole from Texas, we don't sweat it, They are just two of the many we normally get. I'm sure they are kicking themselves for the bad decision they made. Many times kids make terrible decisions, hopefully they will be okay. Take good care of them. We wish you the best,

    Sincerely, Texas.

and to the guy and his wife and kids who were constantly flashed on the jumboscreens throughout the stadium (wearing their utah garb) with their hashtag saying (and I'm paraphrasing) "who would have thought that our first game after moving to Austin we would be rooting for the opposing team!" ---When does your house go on the market and for how much??!

Of the Utah 2020 commits, Van Fillinger is 1 of 3 of the 4 Star Commits, Ty Jordan is 1 of the 14 3 Star Commits.

Wonder what Fillinger is thinking now, following the mud hole the Horns stomped the Utes into?

I'm guessing hes probably a little confused. It amazes me how many kids don't try to actually find the right school and coach fit and only care about winning. Some are incapable of seeing the bigger picture and react to a couple of games or the speech the coaches are giving about their best chance to win a championship. Of course every kid wants to win, but in the end you have your whole life to be planning. This is why I'm so impressed with Bijan and his post signing interview about how he found where he wanted to be and wasn't changing his mind.

Agree Vol with one caveat - kids today are more concerned with "ME" than winning.

Remember these T shirts from back in the 70s -80s the Horns wore under their pads which had this written on them:

    ................................ TEAM
    ......................................... ME

Not too cool anymore. I'd like to see them bring those back.

I traded for one of those shirts from rb Darren Norris--he received my notes for a communications class, I believe it was "MTV and the media" taken for elective hours in July '85 or '86... man, that takes me back!! end of the Freddie Akers era :puke:

Van Fillinger came to Texas initially on his own initiative and his own dime. The coaches had never seen him before.

And Jordan too. But Jordan may have been intimidated by the RB and WR competition.

As much as I wanted him on the 40, I get Van going to Utah, that's where he lives. He's a Utah guy. Jordan, on the other hand, may not have thought it through...

I don't know of many 17-18 year olds that are capable of thinking things completely through, and may listen to buddies that have no skins in the game anyway. Some have a good head on their shoulders and make great decisions, but that seems to be the exception and not the norm.

Remember when he committed Utah was 11-0, playing for the Pac12 championship and a CFP spot. And a 17 year old probably likes staying close to home.

I think Ty was just intimidated by the talent here and potentially saw more on-field time at Utah. Oh, and a guy who has never played a down of college ball was his host - Cam Rising.

Not speaking for Ty Jordan, but with Fillinger, I think it's possible he is comfortable with the home state state school and decided to stay in Utah. What would we say about a Texas kid who flipped from an out of state school, like say, aOSU, to us?

I think the whole reason Van Committed to Texas was Todd Orlando and when Orlando was fired, Van immediately decommitted. Keep in mind that Orlando probably had a relationship with Van's coaches from his days at Utah State, so Van had a built in comfort level with Orlando.

While Orlando is the LB coach and DC, I think Giles probably had more of a relationship as he is the DL coach. But one thing youth usually does not possess is patience to see how things develop. Maybe he will learn his initial instincts were more correct?
