Do you think we were prepared for this? is it somehow better than the Iranians attacking the civilian sites like an embassy?

I think so. I imagine in a few hours, the counter will be launched.

To us cowards this is tragic
But Shaark is it better that this is directed toward our military bases versus civilian places?
can they protect the troops there?

I don't know specifics, but I know they were prepared. IDK if "conventional" warheads ... but I'm expecting this to expand.

    Thank you
I know/ hope they were prepared
I do not want any American hurt for any reason but Dems would make a hayday of it
    but ballistic missiles are unpredictable
    they could hit anywhere?

apparently Iran has more than a 1,000 missles of various types
    Could be a long siege
We know we can retaliate and obliterate Iranian military sites
BUT we also know Iranians will claim innocent women and children were killed by us

I may be jaundiced, but aren’t missiles launched (including ours) all the time in the Middle East? I suppose Iran can make it intolerable for the US to stay. But didn’t China thought they had clout too in the trade war? This is another China trade war but with missiles.

you may be right, @mchammer ... but I don't think so.

We'll find out soon. Were we serious about the 52 targets ...

are they serious about their goals?

Which might mean there were units on the ground in Iraq guiding them.
If so, indicates a high level of local cooperation

I do not remember the last time we launched a missile
    I suspect we will now

The Fateh is made by our friends the Chinese
If this is what they used and given this is a precision weapon, it MIGHT be a sign what Iran was after here was a big show that got a lot of media attention, but with controlled damage. Just speculating.

If so, then gets Trump more options so far as his response goes

Difference is these missiles are launched from Iran herself and not from her proxies.

Maybe a distinction without a difference. This may be for PR purposes for Iranian political purposes.

I can not see where these went.
    It says countries
    Which ones
Are you saying this validates Iran bombing US bases in Iraq ?

This was a good point. As of late Dec, there had been 11 Iran-linked rocket attacks on US positions in Iraq, including the "green zone," over the last 2 months. With American casualties.

Another consideration for the Iranians is that Qatar is supposed to be hosting the 2022 World Cup. This is a HUGE deal to Qatar. Qatar is also an ally of Iran. Maybe the richest ally they have. So, if Iran bombs Dubai or Tel Aviv or any other place considered 'safe' that they’ve been threatening to bomb, Qatar's World Cup would be put in jeopardy. Might not sound like much but issues like this do matter.

This was my initial reaction to the news too, except for the primitive weapons part

I expect Dem support of the attack. You know Iran is bad and all, but they don’t have Trump.

MSNBC has 4 Obama analysts tonight. Iran purposely missed the bases as a gesture of good will. One is apologizing for US actions in the past. These people should move to their homeland.
