I hope the new OC brings in the two QB system he used when he had Mason Rudolph and JW Walsh at OSU. Whether it be Sam and Thompson, Sam and Card, Sam and RoJo, Thompson and RoJo, RoJo and Card.......I don't care what duo it is. We will not win the Big 12 with Sam alone at QB. Defenses know how to slow down or stop our offense with Sam at the helm. Rush 3 or 4 drop 7 or 8 and force Sam to throw with no fear of the QB going 60 to the house on them.( How many times did Sam go40- 60 to the house ? Once maybe) {{{ Stack the box pre-snap bring 3/4 hard to force a quick ( often times inaccurate ) throw, or a scrabble for 3 or 4 yards or often times a sack when the 7 or 8 dropping cover our WRs. }}} A QB that throws dimes like Card and a QB who can pull it down and outrun errbody mixed in with a tough hard-nosed runner like Sam would be difficult to game plan against. With the shotgun snap you don't have the issue of miscues under center changing QBs. Using two QBs would also keep the competition fresh and give more guys experience in the event anyone goes down with an injury, and make it less likely they jump into the portal and leave. and Moral.....Moral in the QB room and on the field would be out the roof.
In a game where you need to run the ball more you might use the better runner more. In a game where you need to air it out you use the better passer. If one guy is lighting it up, then go with him longer. If one is having a bad game, let him sit and use another. That worked pretty good for Bama in the title game a few year ago. Get the QBs experience.......Ride the hot hand if you need to.
We already seem to use a rotation at RB to let the hot hand rumble and keep guys fresh.
You want to TALK ,"next man up." Well put his butt UP there and let them play.
The most important reason to go with a 2 QB system is you damn sure don't want to go into 2021 with a QB with little to NO real game experience, and roll into Arkansas on Sept 11, 2021 with a green QB with one game under his belt.

Couldn't disagree more unless it's for a specific strategy in the game and not just so they get experience.

The whole problem with that hypothesis is that Sam is the best passer and the best runner at QB position. Maybe Roschon is faster in the open field, but Sam gets the short yards reliably.

And that is why defenses like ISU, OU, Baylor, and TCU have defensed us. Sam gets SHORT yards instead of being able to take it to the house, so they don't fear his scramble. Herman hasn't let us see the others, but after seeing Card throw, I don't think Sam is the best passer.

Card has thrown against High Schoolers. I am excited about his potential, but it is unbelievably moronic (yet not too surprising) to have you say Card is a better passer than Sam at this point in their careers.

Yeah, but it only takes 10 or fewer first downs to get to the end zone, then there is no clock left. Funny how Texas was more "explosive" 2019 but won fewer games then the non "explosive" 2018 team. I wonder what can be learned by that?

Majestic, the genius that he is, is on the right track.
    1) make harder for defenses to prepare for our offense
    2) more players involved the more experience. And more players are happy.
    3) ho
A bad defense had something to do with that

I think my sarcasm meter is getting a false reading and poms is sincerely calling majestic a genius??? Lol

Which leads me to believe pomspoms and majestic may actually be the same poster.

Kind of like how Trump used to masquerade as his own publicist to brag about himself.

Poms, am I missing something about this post?

ToP certainly is. Other team cannot score easily and Defense gets to rest.

    Wow, this thread went crazy.
I’m not at all surprised that majestic is now saying start Card over Sam. Card just graduated High School, for Pete sakes! He’s 18. He and Rojo May get some snaps along with Thompson but Sam’s lack of raw speed is not getting him benched! Sorry maj! Same thing with the RB hand off. He said ours is standing and OSU’s took a step pre hand off like that matters much. I think OSU had a better O Line this year and JK Dobbins runs a 4.3 while Ingram runs a 4.5. They just had more talent than Texas around that hand off. Anyway, some will always find negatives even when it takes great effort.

Majestic is not saying Card should start over Sam. He is saying that the back up players should get PT, especially QB. I think CT is gone now. Can't blame him. The battle for back up will be wide open next season. Most people will say RJ will get it. Just don't know how good a passer he is but he has earned my respect. This will be interesting.
Besides Card needs time to get bigger and stronger.
Just chaps my butt the back up QB doesn't get much PT. He should get 1 or 2 series a game against teams that are not top 10.
So next season the backup QB will again be a expert at handing off. No opportunity to read defenses and get better. I say let the opposing team prepare for two QBs.

No majestic and I are not the same poster. We just think outside the box in order to create havoc for their defense so that we are not PREDICTABLE. Predictability causes TFL.

We all remember how Mack screwed the pooch by not giving Gilbert enough snaps in 2009. But think about it. We had a good start last year but between the blowu game and the bowl game, we pretty much stunk up the field. There were no snaps to give the backup because we were too busy eeking out 1 pt wins against Kansas or getting prison raped by 3 other teams.

I would be fine with some snaps for Casey. He will prove to be difficult to defend in my opinion and a more dynamic runner than Sam - if you're looking for a change of pace. I wouldnt do it often...but could see him getting a few snaps and even a few passing attempts. I would especially do this if we could ever get a sizable lead on anyone, but wouldn't be opposed even in a tighter game to work him in situationally.

    4) You give the qb no chance to figure out difficult defenses because as soon as he starts getting the feel of the game the other guy is plopped in.

There was a trend 10-15 years ago of using two qb's and there's a reason you practically see no one doing it anymore. It's because it doesn't work.

I could definitely go for this. I also think when he gets playing time he should have the full offense at his disposal instead of just safe handoff and running plays. I don't care if it's viewed as trying to run it up. The only way he gets valuable experience in the game is by running the offense.
