The love affair with Muslims is both political and misguided values. The political is anything to make Trump look bad, so attack him on his "anti-American" immigration reform. Make it look like he is a bigot. The values argument is the attempt to embrace diversity and tolerance. Because they are people of color and a minor voting bloc they are protected while white Christian Republicans are not tolerated because they are a political force. Wait, that goes back to politics doesn't it?
OK, I also see what they are saying and doing, but why do they say and do it? It makes no sense, it's inconsistent/hypocritical and has no internal logic. This is neither the thought process nor actions of reasonable people. Why are they so unreasonable and worse, why do they not care that they are so frequently exposed as being unreasonable and overly prone to a lack of emotional self-control?
It is obviously hypocritical, but there is a logic to it. What they really oppose is traditional Western values. They oppose Christianity. They oppose capitalism and everything that goes with that - private property rights, free enterprise, economic freedom, etc. They oppose political freedom for anyone who disagrees with them. They oppose the rule of law. They will support some facets temporarily but only as a tool to exploit. For example, they were pro-freedom of speech when we were talking about communists on college campuses and pornographers. However, now that those groups aren't in danger, they oppose freedom of speech. Most of all, they oppose anyone other than them holding power. Accordingly, anyone who agrees with them on any facet of this can be made an ally (even if temporarily) to help them gain power. Once they gain power, it won't matter if some of their allies disagree with them on other issues. They can be marginalized, suppressed, and if necessary, expelled or killed.
I agree with much of that but I have difficulty calling their conclusions logical. But whether it is or isnt doesnt matter as much as the question of what are the rest of us supposed to do with them? I repetitively hammer in here the idea that they cannot be allowed to have political power. But what more? One view is that we treat them as children, wait and hope that they will eventually grow up. But this obviously will never cover all of them.
Perhaps, but the "love affair" was going on long before Trump was even a Republican. You know, much like a large amount of the Trump phenomenon is a reaction to the lunacy of the left moving from a few extremists to mainstream positions, a large amount of this phenomenon can be considered a reaction to much of the Western church's obsession with temporal power. Oddly enough that obsession of the church is also the other reason for the Trump phenomenon. Trump took advantage of large groups of Christians who felt they had lost the cultural battles (many of which were like Pearl Harbor - stupid ones to fight that hurt you even if you win) and promised them power. It's much like the story of Saul that many preachers could tell from memory but apparently failed to learn the lessons of. The people of God wanted a powerful earthly leader to fight for them no matter the consequences and no matter his character.

It reminds me alittle of the Colin Kaepernick story. On Simpson, in every British show/movie/account of those events, they have always described her as "American divorcee" -- the double insult. Every time. If they had a third insult for her, they would have piled that on top as well.
