One guy who took money right on camera is Ja'Marr Chase who happens to be only a sophomore. He is not eligible for the draft but if he is termed to have been paid for play, he likely loses his eligibility which in tern might make him eligible for the draft.

This one championship might cost them the next 3 years as they have to rebuild from the ground up. Their offensive line went from a position of strength to a huge question mark they are now replacing 4 of 5 starters. They were losing 2 starters in their receiving corp, now they might also lose Ja'Marr Chase. They have 2 more defensive players that might declare in Chaisson and Jacoby Stevens.

Our job of going to Baton Rogue and beating LSU is looking less and less daunting.

This might simply be for an "analyst" - not clear atm (it was Chip Brown who said TE/ST, so ....)

Bill, don't be so quick to judge. I'm sure he was just holding that cash for one of the seniors until the celebration was over.

Interesting timing with the Aranda news.
Inside Texas thinks Frank Okam would stay at Baylor with Aranda

Anwar says we are looking at ou ST coordinator Jay Boulware at the TE position. He played for us in the 1990s and has a degree from UT.

He has has coached RBs and ST at ou since 2013, and TEs in 2013-14.

Here is Inside Texas on the WR/DB hires --

    DB vs WR

Hiring Jay Valai and Andre Coleman didn't necessarily excite fans. Not that it matters, but those could prove to be very good hires despite lack of fanfare.

I've shared some glowing comments on the new DB and recently received some more. He's already been recruiting via phone calls. Theadis Reagins, the defensive back coach at North Shore who was previously at Lamar, had this to say after I asked him what makes him say Coach Valai is a good pick up: "He's a Texas guy. He will bring energy and good technical teaching. I saw his work in person when he was GA at UGA."

Reagins had a good relationship with Coach Washington but will likely build the same with Valai, especially as the new coach recruits stud corner Denver Harris for the 2022 class. Valai has already taken the first steps towards that end. If he can pick up where Washington left off, Quinn Ewers won't be the only five-star Texas is in good position for in that class.

Throughout the season I heard some criticisms of Drew Mehringer's coaching of wide receivers. What I heard was so bad it was hard to believe, effectively, he didn't teach the receivers how to beat press coverage. Not that he tried and couldn't get his teaching across....he didn't teach it at all. He would tell his big receivers to use their size and power advantage and that's it. Thinking back to Malcolm Epps' struggles getting off the line it all makes sense. I'm shook.

When the discussion turns to players not being developed, this is a prime example. I had this information confirmed this week as I received positive news on Coleman. With Mehringer they just worked on routes, and not very good ones, and drills they didn't seem to benefit from. Coleman immediately went to work on getting a good release and they saw immediate improvement.

Coleman's becoming a popular guy and should be a value add on the recruiting trail.

If Mehringer was such a lousy WR coach, what does that say about TH not jumping his s**t and making changes earlier. 3 years is way too long to put up with that nonsense.

Apparently Meh was considered a great recruiter. Some coaches are good recruiters and not so good coaches and vice versa.

Boulware's playing career was cut short due to a heart condition I believe which lead him to be a student coach. I think he was a GA too.

He was at Iowa State before Auburn but not sure if he was there the same time Herman was but think it was.

Ray would make a good choice if we need one. Guy has 2-3,National JUCO. Championships.

Before anyone gets in the high horse about Lamar, Vince Lombardi or Tom Landry couldn’t win in South Park

Glad we seem to have hired a point man for special teams. I heard the other day on the radio that Herman was going with a committee approach to coaching special teams.

Assistants teach what the OC/DC and head coach demand. They use drills the OC/DC and head coach want done. If not they get fired. I can't see this guy being around three years if he was not teaching what Tom and Beck wanted done !!!! Sounds like a SYSTEM and SCHEME issue.
