I don't understand? Shouldn't we get our coaches out on the road? Why would keeping an identity secret help us? If the new coach is recruiting for someone else isn't that bad? Or do we think the new hire can't or isn't recruiting?

you douches are under communicating to an honest question.

Carrington, who isn't normally a coach, can't travel to recruits places. Because of his recruiting skills, they want to make the most of his abilities right now with the coaching changes. They made him a coach. He and Herman are the continuity for these 2020 and 2021 recruits right now.

They'll sign someone AFTER signing day/or around it.

If memory serves, it's the other DL position coach so maybe Giles is also the continuity there. Maybe Okam would have been worth bringing on, but he went to the NFL.

Thank you for your time and explanation. With the coaches out recruiting, it seems like all recruits and our existing DLs would want to know who is coming in. Odd that there is no urgency or leaks. But thank you.

Recruiting is the urgency right now. Ash and Carrington are more than capable to explain to recruits the defensive scheme and the type of DL Coach they are seeking. The 2020 OL class is mostly (if not all) in the books, and for the 2021 Class and onwards there is a 50/50 chance that the position coach hired in the next month will still be around the entire 4 years the recruits will be eligible anyway.

I could see a recruit at the position of the opening needing to know who that new coach is going to be. Hopefully there is someone and the recruit knows who it is.

Almost impossible to keep something like that quite. While I would hope the player(s) would keep his/their mouth(s) shut, I don't see that happening.

If there are 100 plus players, Recruits and coaches that can k
Exactly. Hard to believe that many (more than two) can keep their mouth shut, unless no one really cares.

I saw somewhere that our top 5 unsigned targets were 2 DEs, 2 WRs, and a CB and it was hinted that DTs weren't really being targeted so an immediate DT coach hire wasn't particularly necessary. Does that make sense??

    That would be misinformation.

Our last two dline recruits are DEs, and that is the position that Oscar Giles is going to coach when our last Dline coach comes on.

    To be more specific
    2 DEs
    1 Wr
    1 Ath

Dixon can play multiple positions including Wr, RB, and DB.

Perhaps I haven't been paying attention, but am wondering why we have had such difficulty recruiting LBs. Was it the defense we ran? The coach? That was Orlando, right? Poor recruiting? Playing in the Big12? I know we also had difficulty with DE's, but the LB shortage seems chronic.

Its been more about recruiting healthy LBs. Ours seem to have health issues.

If I was an elite linebacker, I don't think I would want to play in the Big 12. Unless you run like a DB, you just aren't going to be needed in a pass happy league. Second, well, there really isn't a second, this is a passing league.

I just think you will see more snaps as a linebacker in the B1G or the SEC. Now if your specialty is rushing the passer than Big 12 it is.

Austin Bill … I don't think there is a much difference in style of play among conferences as you think. Everybody needs good linebackers to stop the run and last I looked OU won the Big 12 in large part because of a spectacular running game. LSU, Bama and Georgia lit up the scoreboards through the air. As I mentioned on another thread, there were more points scored in the first half of the 2019 Iron Bowl than in the 2019 Big 12 championship game... which went into overtime.

I thought Gary Johnson had a huge impact. He was fast like a DB to your point.

To your point, Gary was as fast as most DBs, you don't see that too often out of a linebacker. That made him very useful in staying on the field in passing downs, which for most B-12 schools is every down.

Well all that air traffic in the SEC may be due to lack of fleet-footed LBs who can cover good WRs/RBs, since their personnel has been designed to stop the run game in that conference. But things are changing. True FBs seem to be a thing of the past and true LBs may well be extinct soon as well.

I think FBs are a great asset to an offense especially if they can catch the ball well not to mention the lead blocking for the HB and for protecting the QB in passing situations and for play action pass plays. To me they are valuable.

TFB says the new DTs coach has been hired.
He will be announced after Signing Day
    From the Big 10.

Best guesses are either Tony Tuoiti (Nebraska) or Mark Hagen (Indiana). But Hagen looks like he is also Co-DC there which would make it harder

Inoke Breckterfield is my guess. He is another Wisconsin guy. My dream coach is Sean Spencer from Penn State, he is one of the best in the business.

If he is indeed the guy, I'm not very impressed, he is not a great recruiter. Couple that with Giles not being the greatest recruiter and we don't seem to be getting the most out of a second coach for basically the same position group.
