Could not agree with you more. Coale is an excellent X's and O's coach, but her recruiting has slipped to an all-time low for her. Perhaps she has lost her touch with the young generation? Recruiting is part of the job that the head coach is responsible for... and what has happened at OU makes me worry because of the way our recruiting had dipped with the last two signed classes (2019 & 2020) compared to the few years prior.

It will be very interesting if both Texas and OU are searching for new head coaches after this season. OU has had more overall success the last 20 years or so; and, they have been paying Sherri Coale a much higher salary than we've been paying Karen Aston.

Looking back, the direction of the programs started to go in different directions when Courtney and Ashley Paris out of California signed with OU over Texas. Even though some felt Texas had the #1 ranked recruiting class, it never materialized and Conradt resigned before those signees completed their eligibility at Texas. It was a huge recruiting win for OU, and helped OU win several conference championships, and make at least one national championship final game.

She'd be crazy to leave South Carolina with what she has built... recruits, fan base, community support, the whole nine yards.

It would be nice to rebuild the fan base here at the University for women’s basketball - community support, etc... I have no idea what her salary is...but The University of Texas could probably pay her more than what she is getting there.

Man I said Dawn Staley when they hired GG. Then I said it again when they hired KA. Coach Staley is the real deal. No way she's leaving the house that "Staley built". Heck I wouldn't leave either. We missed out on her.
Staley has FRESHMEN doing the daggum thang! Youth? What's youth, says the gamecocks. LOL

And I'm really interested in what Oregon does after Sabrina leaves. She's a straight baller. How does Coach Graves keep his team among the elite without her? That's how you tell what kind of coach they are. Staley keeps reloading and coaching. Geno keeps reloading and coaching. Mulkey keeps reloading and coaching. Has Graves mastered keep reloading and coaching. O, Vic reloading and coaching.

Staley was set to make 1.1 million in 2015-2016 - I'd bet it's a bit higher than that, one national championship and 4 years later
And they've had the highest average attendance in WBB for several years. She ain't coming here.

I totally agree Flash34. I have the utmost respect for Sherri Coale and what she's done for the program, saving women's basketball from being eliminated at OU (still sucks!). The issue appears to be recruiting and hanging onto recruits.

Chelsea Dungee is a candidate for SEC player of the year as she leads Arkansas. And Nancy Mulkey is a defensive force for Rice. Oklahoma would be a much better team had them two remained in Oklahoma the last couple of years.

Sherri Coale is definitely a class act and has accomplished more than KA will ever have imho.

Didn’t she have 7 Freshmen last season? They are getting better, but recruiting is TOUGH, so many choices for kids now, and Norman is NOT exactly a Mecca..

In my never ending, irritating to most of ya'll, campaigning for a certain replacement coach (if required in about a month), I unabashedly propose that ya'll go look at the ESPN NCAAW bracketology today. And notice that NC State is now a number one seed. With a record of 22-1, Wes Moore once again has his team playing lights out. He is a Texas boy who at one time resided in Carrollton and went to my church. As a strong family man and Christian, if CDC wanted a culture change, there it is staring you in the face. Once again not sure if he would be interested in that he has a new contract extension and NC State fan support is wonderful. But I can only hope that CDC has him on a short list.

I would LOVE to have Wes Moore, but would he leave NC State? I hear he and his family are very happy there. I met his wife and sister when we played them in the 2nd Round in Austin several years back. In fact they sat right next to us.... very nice people. Also to consider is that, at 62, how long would he want to coach?

The older I get, 62 seems like REALLY young. Certainly that is a factor, but 3-5 years of top notch ball at Texas...…..I could live with that. His happy family life is very real. Folks like them can be happy in Texas as well. For sure they know the landscape having coached in Texas before. Almost all top notch coaches with great families and good situations are going to be a long shot to come. Can't give up by not trying though. And if there is a younger Wes Moore or similar lady out there, I'll take that. Just hoping that CDC reads this forum some day for suggestions !

In today’s Dallas Morning News, R. Gerald Turner, President of SMU gave a short interview and answered a reporters questions about Travis Mays and the recent reports in the paper. I suggest you read it as you don’t have to have a subscription to read it online. In essence, he said that Mays knew he had crossed the line in his comments to players, that he wanted his coaches to challenge the players but needed to recognize the limits, had assigned a staff member who was spending 90% of his time working with Mays on his communications and other, recognized that this was Mays first time as a head coach and needed some help, wouldn’t comment on any specific players past or present and Mays was going to be the long time coach at SMU. This emphasizes to me the risk in hiring an assistant to be a head coach....even from any of the top schools in the country. Head coaching experience would most likely be a minimum requirement on any job posting at Texas.

Since Conradt, Texas has had 2 coaches with head coaching experience. Just saying. Not much success, no conference titles.

I agree 62 doesn't seem old AT ALL anymore, but it's still something to consider. Three to five years isn't a long enough time.

Well how bout those apples. Ketchum(owner of Orangebloods) got into it today in a thread about WBB with Moooo. It started innocently enough as an ugly discussion about the game. Then it got into only a discussion about differences of opinion between the two. Personal. Eventually this afternoon Ketch permanently banned Moooo from OB site. I couldn’t believe it. Both agreed on Aston and the sad state of WBB but disagreed on everything else. Amazing. Guess we’ll get more of Mooooooo on this site now.

She seemed like a maniac in the 00s and her teams tended to play on the edge of dirty (although to be fair once Leah Rush graduated it wasn't so bad). Has she mellowed out since then?

For sure she has, her teams over the recent years haven’t been on par with her 2000 teams. Sooner fans are grumbling, the game has probably past her. Ask them about the nepotism of hiring her son as an assistant lol.

Compared to the coach in Waco, I’d take Sherry without hesitation if presented a choice between those two. KM is good don’t get me wrong, just don’t subscribe to her antics (or theatrics?) on and off the court.

In an effort to give credit where credit is due... I could not agree with you more. I like Coale and would take her in a heartbeat over that mess in Waco. Imagine what Coale could have done with our starting 5. I would think she is already eyeing retirement vs. starting over. But maybe not.

While I don't share the sentiments regarding KM... For several years I've been saying the same thing regarding Coale, "Imagine if she had our team..."

I've always been a fan of her coaching and hate to see it come to such a poor ending for her. I'm not saying she's at the end, but one has to wonder how long OU will allow sub-mediocrity.

We are all welcome to our opinions about the witch from Waco, but whenever I hear someone even give a slight nod to her, I like to post this:

A coach trash talking and putting her hands on a player from the other team... Well that’s trash. And only Baylor and Waco would be ok with it.
