Yeah we mentioned this on the NFL Draft thread. I like Roach but I don't know if he performed well enough in the poor scheme to earn the right to complain. He also cost us the ISU game, so there's that.

I don't know, Horns...I see Roach as the perfect guy to say this. I think he had it and flashed it enough and likely was held back by scheme/coaching. JMHV

Also, no one guy ever lost a football game. If the offense showed up for that game that play would not have mattered.

“I would have loved to be in a 4-3,” “I think it’s a smart move. You have pass rushers out there — (senior defensive end) Taquon Graham, (senior defensive lineman) Marquez Bimage, (junior linebacker) Joe Ossai — guys that can get after the quarterback.

“You have to use those guys. That was the biggest thing that we got caught up in, not using our weapons to our full advantage."
Pretty obvious Orlan_o was schematically brainfucking his defense up. Just unable to resist trying to make the perfect play call on every play. Taking the players ability to read and react out of the equation. Same dumb **** Manny Diaz and Vance Bedford got up to.

Hopefully Ash lets the players play.

Sorry Malcolm, NFL coaches will see right through this excuse making. Roach was an average P5 conference talent in college and, as he knows, has below-average talent for the NFL.

Roach could have been a very good SDE in a four man front.

Notice he barely, if at all, complains that a 4-3 would've won more games. He repeatedly says he understood why we ran the scheme we did, but it didn't let a few players showcase their talent, and that's what he didn't like.

In other words, it sounds like he thinks impressing NFL scouts is more important than winning games.

I think his point was pretty clear that Orlando did not use the talent that was at his disposal wisely, by not playing to his players strengths. Which would have resulted in having a better defense and more wins.

Orlando was a complete hardheaded dumbass this year. For example We had zero pass rush all year and there was a simple fix for that staring him right in the face. my grandma could have told him that Joseph Ossai was a beast edge rusher. But nah, Orlando was going to scheme up some advantage which called for exotic blitzes that had the rest of the struggling secondary in one on one coverages And ossai dropping back.

Which is precisely why only 13 NFL teams insisted he be invited to the tryouts. Uhhhh ... oh wait.

No, he just acknowledges that the purpose of the down 3 DL is to occupy OL blockers, not make plays on the QB or RB.

I’ll put money on him not being on a 53-roster this time next year

I've talked about this in other threads.

Roach is looked at by NFL scouts as a DT in the NFL. If NFL scouts see him as a DT then why did we see him as a DE?

The truth is he is right about the scheme not fitting with our personnel. We all knew this about 4 games into the season. Our scheme got a lot of our Dbs hurt because our dline wasn't making any tackles.

Him thinking Graham is a pass rusher is laughable, he is way too slow to be a pass rusher as a DE. He might be a good pash rusher as a 3 tech, but not as a 4i.

At this point it doesn't matter, Roach is gone and Orlando and most of his staff are gone. I will say this again, I really liked Todd Orlando, I hope he finds success at USC and can turn that program around. He seems like a really good guy. Roach was a great representative of UT and I hope he can carve out an NFL career.

There won’t be any longhorns drafted in round 1-3. It’s been a sorry *** stretch of 10 years or so, yet everybody predicts big time results.

When Rutgers sends more players to the NFL than Texas does in any given year it’s embarrassing. And yet Herman has had decent records with a ******** overall roster and has kicked OU ***, Georgia’s ***, Utah’s *** and other teams that have had superior talent.

That all is changing. It won’t be long before he has a roster full of Mack Brown talent years 2002-2009 except this guy knows how to coach. He wins big time games and always has.

in other words, you don’t see superior teams that have no players drafted year in year out like Texas used to have.

That tells you all you need to know.

YES, YES, YES. Orlando never adjusted one iota when we had injuries. Hey, let's blitz from 10 yds off the LOS after a 2 second count. Vacate the entire middle of the field and then be surprised when slants are wide open. Any idiot with a pulse could see what was happening but Orlando was too damn stubborn to do anything about it. I don't think I've ever been more ready for a coach to leave. Oh, except Diaz. Who is one and the same with TO. Only way their D works is to have far superior talent in the back 5.

That's a good bet as few will be. But it still does not change the fact that 13 teams wanted to see how good he was on a field with the best of his peers. Capiche?

I think it would be interesting to see which football programs have the most undrafted free agents on NFL rosters.

If it's Texas that would be a real black eye for the program. It's basically saying we have talent but can't get them drafted. Kids don't go to Texas to get a shot at the NFL as a free agent, they can do that at Mary Harden Baylor.

I think more of an indictment for the coaching and also the scouts. But then the whole NFl passed on Ford, Welker, Romo and many others. Google the articles.

Texas isn't Rutgers or UNT, Texas is a blue blood program, there is no reason for a kid coming from Texas to get over looked except that the scouts have a preconceived notion about Texas players (which I believe they have) or Texas isn't doing enough to get them noticed (I believe they aren't).

I think Texas needs to quit acting like the big clumsy kid who is afraid of hurting the little guys, and start putting their foot on the throat of these teams and make our guys look like world beaters. I want to see more games like the 2005 Big 12 title game. We can do it, but we don't.

I will be totally shocked if Duvernay isn't drafted in the first 3 rounds. He has the best hands in all of college football and he has speed. It has been mentioned that he would thrive in a Patriot type offense and I believe that. Perhaps his route running could use better technique but that is not rocket science. Yes if he gets into the right system he would not only play but be a star. To me he is first round material cause what more do you want in a receiver who has the utmost confidence in his ability to snag a football out of the air and top end speed.

Yes he should be. However, there are so many twists and turns on draft day that unless you are head and shoulders better than the next guy, you run the risk of being overlooked.

Neato. Totes capiche. He’s not good enough to play in the NFL but crushed team workout evites so it all balances out. How did I miss that? Fantastic point! ¿Entiendes?
