Lots of dline players don’t blossom till year 3 and 4. Also helps to have other players on the line that draw double teams, like Coburn etc. I think we will be fine next year.

We are going to be fine in 3 of the 4 spots, for our DTs, we are a legit 3 deep for both positions. We are really thin at DE but outside of Ossai we just don't have another DE that can provide the impact he gives us.

Ossai is a guy the OC has to account for on every play. Coburn is a guy that requires a double team this leaves Graham to make lots of plays and whoever else is there.

But the 4th guy takes up an OL or TE or RB that can’t be deployed on the DT’s and Ossai. A good starter on UH line can do that role.

You forgot the most important statistic; how many defensive plays did he have?

Most of us already suspect the OL scheme was not the best for the personnel.

I wonder how the other DE statistics per defensive play last year look?

I think that there is probably plenty of truth to this, and there should be. Our proud football program at the feature University in the state is in the middle of the pack in advance of a major stadium enhancement, we are an embarrassment on the BB court in advance of a new arena, and our once dominant Baseball program is impressing no one.

CDC wants winners and I would expect that his patience is running very thin.

Look at it this way. Mack Brown and Tom Herman are the best Texas football coaches since Darrel Royal. Akers was pretty good. Mackovich and Williams got lucky for a year or two.

I for one would not have a hair trigger on firing the at least 2nd best coach since DKR. Also, Herman was in a much deeper pit than Mack and has reestablished the program's credentials on several levels higher than where he found it.

I have never been a Mack Brown apologist, but Herman has had a cake walk compared to what MB faced. Brown did what I considered the impossible by uniting the multitude of factions tearing our program apart. Fred fought an uphill battle against alums set on his failure even to the detriment of our student athletes.

Fred had a record against Top 20 teams of over 80%. Does Herman had a record against any group of 80%, except his three bowl games.

So, yes, Tom Herman is better than Charlie Strong, more likable than Mackovic, less than David, but thus far he falls woefully short of DKR, Fred, & MB.

Did I want Herman? YES! Did I put my two cents in? Absolutely. Am I majorly disappointed? YEP! Most all of it falls under the categories of arrogance, hard headed, and lack of common sense (seems to run amuck in people from Cali-prune-ya).

I don’t believe there is a strong basis — a body of work — to suggest that Herman is anything other than a pedestrian coach so far at Texas. In three years he’s 25-15, or a winning percentage of 62.5%.

Let’s see what he can do this year — with a loaded and upperclassmen roster — before before start placing him in any historical context.

This team should win the conference in 2020 and compete for a CFP berth. I’d say that we should withhold judgment until we see how the season plays out.

Herman has not yet come close to deserving his name in the same sentence with MB and DKR

Then name a more successful Texas football coach other than those two.

Again, not a "can" you want to open. Our defensive line was completely inept and if he got a lot of plays then those numbers were terrible, if he got only a few plays, you have to ask, why when we sucked so bad.

Unfortunately "success" is a weak relative term for Texas football's recent history. Maybe you see Herman as having potential (I do) but that is speculation and not real. 25-15 is real.

Three straight Bowl victories over favored teams does say something as no one else has done that their first 3 seasons. Not earth shattering, but still remarkable.

Who else in the B12 won a bowl game this year?

A lot better than the CS 3 years he succeeded. What is most indicative of your criticism is the total ignorance of his rebuilding of the infrastructure that decayed under Mack Brown in his latter years and was totally ignored by CS.

A lot of "Fans" have a very short memory of how bad it was 3 years ago. No staff, revolving door coaches, no support staff, no long term plan or structure. Texas was doomed operationally. Things are much better now as there is a foundation on which to build. CDC helped a lot, but Herman is the architect.

Meanwhile, back to 2021 recruiting class in this thread, please.

Dealing with this sort of 'street agent' character (The Footwork King) is like walking on thin ice. That being said, TFK certainly knows how to workout and improve the athletic performance of his players.* He's no used car salesman. He's good at his craft.

*It's not his job to improve the academics, character, and ethics of his players. He gets them ready to play on the field. The other stuff, important as it may be, is out of his hands. Take Javonne Shepherd for example.

Fred Akers did better than Herman thus far.... Mackovic won a couple conference titles...McWilliams has a title...Several in history have a better winning % than Herman right now.....Herman hasn't won anything.

3 Bowl Victories in a row over favored opponents is better than nothing. Breaking OSU's 5 game win streak in Austin is a welcome precedent. Breaking TCU and KSU's dominance is a step forward. I think things are moving forward. Hell, just having a great QB is a fundamental step forward over the last ten + years.

That would be a resounding "no one" and the ou squad was an absolute embarrassment. The Horns were the B12's lone postseason bright spot with a solid win over the #11 ranked team.

My sense is that we are going to open up a bit to more of these guys. Just a guess and I am going by our recent offers.

Any Big XII that makes the final four is a “bright spot”, even if they get killed. Every team not there wishes they had the opportunity to get embarrassed.

Chris Madrid’s is great as always. San Antonio is better than the Holiday Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, or a trip to the ghetto of Dade County or the building the Houston Livestock Show built. Still, Bexar County ain’t telling the world we are a top four team.

Sign of the times, I suppose. Just have our compliance folks looking over the shoulders of our recruiters when dealing with these guys.

Dominance is an 8-2 record over a 10 year period. So, you might want to tap the brakes on breaking TCU dominance as it has not happened yet. Same for Baylor and ISU.

The typically middle-of-the-pack teams in this conference (TCU, ISU, OSU, etc.) have gotten considerably better. The Big 12 isn't top heavy. OU hasn't done much in the post-season, so the conference hasn't been dominated by a Clemson, aOSU, or Alabama at the top. The bottom few teams each year typically suck as expected. But the large bulk in the middle has been pretty tough lately. The conference is the opposite of an hourglass. The Big 12 is like a bulky man who is big in the middle, but has done a lot of situps and crunches so the large mid-section is tough and not soft.

Still, we're UT and we should beat the middle-of-the-pack teams, and only drop a game against them on rare occasion. This is the big time. Anyone who signs on to coach here should know the expectations.

Our “compliance people” couldn’t find a defalcation in a pimped out MB loaded with steroids, $100 bills, and airplane tickets.

Here is Eric Nahlin talking about 2021 LB recruiting

    Linebacker (2-3)
    Committed: Derrick Harris (New Caney)
Targets: Terrence Cooks (Shadow Creek); Morice Blackwell (Arlington Martin); Romario Noel (Cy Ranch)

Commentary: They’re probably visualizing Harris for Mike. Cooks is athletic enough for Will and he’s a must-get. Blackwell has picked up some solid offers but he may be one they want to get to know better before they start pushing. Remember Ernest Cooper is the 2022 Martin defensive end who might be one of a handful of in-state five-stars in that class. Noel plays safety but looks like a future Will to me. He’s committed to Baylor and taking things slow. Texas has offered some big out-of-state talents but we’re not aware of any traction with them. You have to like their chances with Cooks. If they pair him with Harris they’ll be able to play the long game with either an elite or late bloomer. Expect more out-of-state activity at linebacker.
