We have beaten NCAA tournament teams! The streak is alike!

The good news is we mostly have "quality" losses aside form Georgetown and Iowa State. The other good news is we finally (in the second to last week of the season) have some quality wins in Tech and West Virginia to cancel out those quality losses. I think the best word to describe this year's Texas team at the moment is "average" or "mediocre". As I discussed in the other thread, we still need to win the last 2 to probably make the NCAA tournament and at least 1 in the Big XII tournament to be comfortably in the field. Right now, before those games, I feel we are sitting as a #1 seed in the NIT.

You've looked at this situation much closer than me. And you're likely correct in your prediction noted^^^.

But I differ in my guess about getting into the Big Dance. I think 20-12 gets us there. That's two in any way we can. Any combination of two victories over either of the three remaining opponents. If one of the victories is over ou at their place, I think the Horns are a lock to get an NCAA birth.

Texas only moved up 3 spots in the most recent Bracketology from today. Now we're the "5th team out" according to Lunardi and their metrics. I'm a little surprised... I figured we would easily be in the first four out.

Oddly enough, Oklahoma has moved up to a #10 seed for their recent play, after being outside the bubble and then the last four in after that. I think a win over them would cement a flip between our fortunes. But even if it doesn't, I think a win over OK State and a first round opponent in the conference tourney should be enough. We made the tournament with Bamba after a 19-14 record, although that team was arguably better and played closer, tough games against dominant opponents.

Splitting the okies and winning 1 game in the tourney will likely get us into the play-in. Wouldn't round 2 of the B12 likely be Kansas/Baylor?

Tomorrow nights game in Norman should be considered a play-in game for the Big Dance. We have identical records (18-11 / 8-8) and that win would almost lock up 4th place in the Conference. As nice as this little 4-game winning streak has been, tomorrow's game may really be a must win.

Our "quality win" vs. WVU is looking less quality every time they take the floor. I would think they have played themselves onto the bubble with their collapse.

What a finish against OU tonight! If we aren't in at this point, we are awfully close.

If we suck against osu and lose our first tourney game, we'd be out, imo.

    Otherwise, yeah :hookem:

I'll be there. What do they call senior night without seniors? Is Drayton Whiteside a senior? He may be the only one.

Donovan Williams is out - supposed to have surgical procedure to clean up left knee.
    That leaves 8 scholarship players.

This^^^ is very sad. Donovan was playing well, could knock down a three, and make plays. So this means out for the rest of this season, damningit.

How about Sims, Liddell, etc. Anybody know when they will return?

If Texas doesn’t get in with being at worst T-4th in conference then it’ll be a big ol’ bowl of BS

No it wouldn’t. The non-conference schedule was a joke, and the conference is really down this year. Probable four way tie for third at 9-9, doesn’t really scream dominant performance in conference. Oh and getting worked at home by the eighth or ninth place team when you are playing to stay off the bubble speaks more loudly than anything else.

Yep. We were there. That may have been the worst game I've ever watched in person, but the kids enjoyed it and our 10 year old caught a t-shirt, so it wasn't all bad.

That’s just like your opinion man. As far as the conference being in a down year, there’s been two teams ranked No. 1 this year, with one currently holding that position. I see Indiana in the projected bracket; they were 10th in the BIG 10 as of yesterday. And our OOC wasn’t great but certainly was far from a joke. So, basically I disagree.

As far as the loss, I don’t think many teams win when their opponent shoots 60+% from 3 and 66% from the field. Anyone who’s played basketball knows that today was one of those days

Silver lining. We took our kiddos earlier in the season to the CMU game. They got to take pics with Bevo. It was a ghost town but they had fun. Horns won that one, but the writing was on the wall early this season.

    Weekly update 3/8/20:
    Texas 19-12 (9-9) 3rd in Big XII*
*We came in 3rd but did not have a winning record. A lot of mediocrity in the Big XII this year other than the top 2 teams.

Bold means regular season and conference tournament complete.

    Power Conference Wins:
West Virginia 21-10 (3rd in Big XII)
    @ Oklahoma 19-12 (3rd in Big XII)
@ Texas Tech 18-13 (3rd in Big XII)
@ Oklahoma State 17-14 (7th in Big XII)
    @ TCU 16-15 (7th in Big XII)

    California 13-18 (8th in Pac-12)
Iowa State 12-19 (9th in Big XII)
@ Kansas State 10-21 (10th in Big XII)
Kansas State 10-21 (10th in Big XII)

    Minor Conference Wins:

Central Michigan 14-17 (9th in MAC)
High Point 9-23 (10th in Big South)

    Power Conference Losses:
Kansas 28-3 (1st in Big XII)
    @ Kansas 28-3 (1st in Big XII)
Baylor 26-4 (2nd in Big XII)
    @ Baylor 26-4 (2nd in Big XII)
    LSU 21-10 (2nd in SEC)
@ West Virginia 21-10 (3rd in Big XII)
    Oklahoma 19-12 (3rd Big XII)
Texas Tech 18-13 (3rd in Big XII)
    @ Providence 19-12 (4th in Big East)
Oklahoma State 17-14 (7th in Big XII)
Georgetown 15-16 (8th in Big East)
@ Iowa State 12-19 (9th in Big XII)

(I consider the Big East a power conference in basketball)

    Minor Conference Losses:
    None

The data still supports we are mediocre. We mostly beat the bad teams we played and mostly lost to the good teams we played.

We have 3 good wins (West Virginia, @ Tech and @ OU) and 3 bad losses (Georgetown, @ Iowa State, and Oklahoma State). If we beat Texas Tech in the Big XII Tournament, I think we are in the NCAA Tournament. If we lose to Tech, I think we are a #1 seed in the NIT. Any upsets in the other conference tournaments will hurt us.

Not too late in the season to get poke at HEB. Boil, wrap, ace bandage, he'll be ready to play Friday at the latest.

ncaa announces that there will be no fans at tournament games because of covid-19. This has gotten insane. Might as well cancel the entire tourney. No energy or excitement in the arenas, just glorified scrimmages.

This could help Texas, if we make it, since no fans attending games. We are used to playing in an empty stadium.

Nope, an old Indian remedy. Used it for years on HS, college & pro athletes. Sonny Detmer says tobacco does the same thing.
