Elyssa had a good week...named the Chronicle’s Girls Athlete of the Week:
The University of Texas commitment scored 50 points with 19 rebounds and eight steals in an 84-22 win over South Houston. She added 26 points and 17 rebounds in an 84-23 win over Pasadena Memorial. Coleman is fully healthy after recovering from an ACL tear two years ago.

Coleman had 25 in the last game of Sandra Meadows. Earlier games were fairly pedestrian on box scores. Not sure for what place game it was.

At first glance, seeing ‘knee’ and ‘MRI’ had me worried for Ashley. Sounds like she’s just going to have to rest a couple of weeks...

Praying for a speedy healing process that eliminates all discomfort from her knee. MRI results are negative for anything serious! Frankly because my girl only knows one way to play and that’s HARD she is being shut down for two weeks to ensure healing and avoid further aggravation. She attempted to “take it easy” vs Cathedral Catholic yet still sacrificed her body taking 3 charges! Ugh not exactly taking it easy kid! Lol Shutting her down is the only way”

According to DMNews, Clemson commit Sydney Standifer has a torn ACL and out for year. Standifer from Argyle also tore her ACL last year.

If anyone has not seen this already this is a matchup over the summer between elyssa coleman vs sarah Andrews and hannah gusters. This is my first time watching elyssa play and she has great potential. She brings much needed size to the Texas roster.

An article about Elyssa’s injury, getting the Texas offer and the decision to commit - even references the game against Gusters.

Shay Holle's Westlake squad lost their regional final against Converse Judson a couple of weeks ago despite having a lead in the 4th quarter.

Late Judson rally stuns Westlake girls in regional championship

The Rockets (32-8) swarmed the Westlake ballhandlers and applied pressure, forcing seven Chap turnovers in the final 5 minutes. Judson — specifically junior guard Kierra Sanderlin — turned those Westlake miscues into buckets while pulling off the rally. Sanderlin played a huge part in the stunning ending. A starter for last season’s state championship team, Sanderlin willed her team to the win by scoring 17 of her 27 points in the fourth period. She made all 12 of her foul shots, including eight in the final 3:11.

Havd not heard of Sanderlin, but those free throws got my attention.

Okay there are a lot of good names in the transfer portal. A lot of leading scorers and leading 3 point shooters on good teams. Texas has 3 scholarships to give for next season so we really need to fill up those spots. I say we look for a center, a foward and I don't know the other position because we are stacked at the point guard position.

I think Coach Aston is looking at a juco center by the name of Brittany Reeves.

I just looked at her stats. It may be at the juco level but her stats are still impressive. You can tell she has the talent to play at the d1 level but it could be something that prevented her from doing so.

There are so many players available there is absolutely no reason we should not bring in at least 2 players. Whether it be from the juco level or transfers from other d1 schools.

I’m sure Coach Aston and staff have a plan with what they want to do.

Well, there's competition for every recruit or transfer. So, just because a school has scholarships to offer, doesn't mean they get their first choices to fill them.

While we can't be "picky" as to their classification, bringing in a couple more senior grad-transfers helps balance out the departed 2017 signing class.

Yeah of course I'm just saying that there is so many out there that I don't see why we would not bring in a couple. We already have one with katie Benzan, I personally have seen no video or games of hers but I know she is a lights out shooter which Texas desperately needs. So I do have faith that Aston brings in the type of players Texas is lacking.

I think the biggest need would be a 6 to 6’1 face up 4 player. Those are the kinds of PF’s that are in this conference for the most part. Outside of that if I were Coach Aston I would stand pat and move on to 2021 recruiting.

Yes and a good tall post player. I know we are getting 6'5 precious johnson and 6'3 forward coleman but one more would be good. Shay holle is an amazing player who can score and does the little things very well. Honestly what Texas needs is someone who is a pure scorer. Someone you know you can rely on each game. I think collier will have a breakout season. She had a very good season this year but I believe next year she will be dominant.

We need a strong 4 post. A Joyner-esque player who’s more consistent. Maybe that’ll be Coleman? Would still like to pick another one up

Honestly, I don't see us adding any new recruits/signees until a public announcement is made regarding Coach A's future at Texas. Has to be an uphill battle recruiting right now for Coach A since her contract has not been extended. Other head coaches who do have that all-important job security definitely have an advantage.

    UIL All-State Girls

This has everything from 2020 to 2023 players. All divisions from Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. Shay Holley made 6A.

Harmon and Hunter from CC too. Look forward to see if they get back to state and take down Duncanville or other next year. One thing I seem to focus on is the 6-A and 5-A players now. Used to be there was always some great players from the very small schools that made a splash at major schools. A lot of West Texas small school players were great. Am I imagining that fewer small school girls are impact kids. A lot of us on this site came from small towns/schools. V Gray and R McKinney from Argyle are a two that are and will be good major players. But not sure who else. Have I just had my head stuck in the sand ?
