Yes, on the endless and predictable speculation about who will be or should be the top coaching candidates. I find myself thinking about schools such as Ohio State. Ohio State fired successful coach Jim Foster at the end of the 2013 season to hire then "hot" Kevin McGuff, who has been somewhat less successful.

I really wanted Aston to succeed. But as has been said 10,000 times it wasn't happening. And after 10 years, it wasn't going to get better. Odd time to search for a new coach but I'm excited about a new beginning and hopefully, one day soon, beating Baylor :) Texas has a lot of talent. They could be special immediately.

Staley doesn't face Kim three times a year, and she didn't face her with Cox healthy.

I am a man and I do not want a man to coach women. Coach Aston is a terrific person and I have had the good fortune of meeting her many times. It is sad she did not have a chance to play for her job in the last two tourneys. But that is the way CDC rolls. I mentioned before, Women's Softball put a lot of pressure on the other sports. I put the blame on the assistant coaches here but she is responsible for hiring them. Best wishes for her future. Karen Aston brought this team back to relevance and we thank her for all of her work.

I was hoping KA could figure it out and compete on the KM level.

I'm under quarantine and losing my mind because right at this very moment I'm supposed to be on a flight to NOLA headed to the Final Four. So just laugh at my next thoughts as I wrap my mind around my alarm that just went off to remind me to board my flight.

What if they hire Dawn Staley and she brings those freshman with her to TX!?!?!
What if they give GG a redo!?!?! Everyone knows I really wanted her to succeed.
They decide to hire a man and go after Kelly Graves or Vic Schaefer.
They flip the script and hire Kim Mulkey. WTW!?!?!
They take a chance on Kara Lawson or Kristi Toliver or Shea Ralph.
They make an offer Becky Hammon can't refuse and she leads us back to the Final Four and defeats Kim Mulkey's Baylor Bears.

I think folks better be patient. It’s going to be a long process in trying to realistically compete with Baylor even with a new coach especially if the better players on the team decide to transfer.

There are probably more than a few of us right with you. The only two thoughts I can't laugh about are a GG redo or Kim Mulkey. As far as I am concerned, GG was not willing to put in the work to succeed. Even if she had been led to think recruiting would be easy, does not mean she could not have gotten out there and found players. There are coaches [edit: meant players] all over the world and if GG were as good as advertised, she could have found some good enough to work with. Mulkey. Well, I lost my sense of humor around the time of the Empress episode.

So, when's the announcement? :smile1: Is there some kind of decent waiting period? I want to know now!

There are several hoops that he has to go through. For starters, the job has to be posted as dictated by State Law before he can announce anything.

In my opinion, I believe CDC has probably identified who he wants to hire, otherwise, why make the move at this point.

CdC moved about as quickly as possible. The season ended less than a month ago - it just seems more distant because of frustrations with poor play and our current weird world. If the team had performed well in the tournaments, KA might have had some leverage for 2 more years. Now, Athletics is looking at a major financial loss in the next year - which will be worse if football is delayed or cancelled entirely. There's no extra cash for raises for coaches, certainly not for those who can't fill seats. Shaka was probably saved by his buy-out. :hookem2:

Exactly my thoughts! They are top priority in terms of players staying. Hopefully nobody transfers or if someone does it's someone who doesn't play alot of minutes. I hope the coach we get is someone who brings talent with him/her exactly like Mike White did.

We need somebody with a proven track record developing post players. Charli has too much talent to not be developed properly.

Don't care if present players stay or not. If they were great Aston might not have gotten fired. Let the new coach rebuild. Graves is the man...Just check out his resume. Geno endorses him. He is a proven winner at power 5 level.

OMG...are you freaking serious??? So you are now blaming the players for Aston's ineptitude and lack of results as a coach??? She had EVERY opportunity to succeed here and failed. At one point she had TEN McDonald's All Americans on her roster. She's the one who recruited them. This one is NOT on the players........

You probably know some things I don't know. However, I am grateful to KA for 8 hard years in a pressure cooker of a job. She elevated UT from where it was before. It was probably time for a change for UT and maybe for KA personally. She has a family to pay attention to and had a big personal loss this past year. I think it is hard to be on top of your job day-after-day , with a lot of people watching every move and offering criticisms while not knowing hardly any of the facts. So, for me, I'll just say thank you for your time, your effort and always representing UT well. Good luck on your next focus, whatever it is.

This board is getting what it wanted. It will be nice for this board not to be dominated by scathing, hateful diatribes about how awful KA is. What will this board have to get stirred up about? Now it's time to see what someone else does. We need to make some good advances soon to prove that CDC knows what he's doing. If beating Baylor soon is a major factor in how the new coach is judged, as the AAS implies, don't get your hopes too high. I hope we can get someone who can put it all together, but dreaming about Graves or Staley wanting to come here is being out of touch with reality.
