    Progress is being made.
    • The Concourse floor is almost finished.
    • The concrete forming for the lower seating area has started
    • The outer walls for the existing buildings have been stripped way in preparation of being brought into the construction
    • They must be slightly behind schedule (probably due to the rain) as they have worked every Saturday in February and a couple of Sunday's

I've seen better images of the Loch Ness Monster than SEZ.

If you look at the SE corner (Section 32), it's apparent now that the SEZ addition is going to have a rather tall "wall" that kind of juts out from the middle of the seating area.

A wall on each side to keep common folk out.

The construction photos don't make the wall seem as tall as the concept art, so I guess that's a plus.

I would have preferred a more seamless addition like the NEZ where the seating just curves rather than creates a new tier.

Maybe, since the prevailing wind is from the south, they determined through computer modeling that those walls placed as such would limit the wind on the field.

Or, they just screwed up and it will hideous and stupid.

The lawyers putting those TV ads for bad earplugs, will be lined up outside the South end passing out business cards and signing up clients.

Legitimate question: Is there a fan that prefers this design, as opposed to mirroring the north end zone?

I think the answer would be that mirroring the NEZ would cost about twice as much because of the renovations they're doing to Moncrief and everything else.

Probably the biggest question would be what is desired total capacity?
The avg fan might prefer bigger the better and 120K is best but the people in charge of ticket sales and revenue might prefer no increase in capacity of 102K+/- as that is what the demand is and expand premium seatings rather than general admission.
We get how many students to attend a game from and enrollment of 48K?
    Design should reflect mission plan.

It'd be ridiculous to have a 118K-seat stadium. It would be the largest capacity enclosed stadium in the world. And we can't even fill the current one before the 9-minute mark of the 1st quarter each game. We're not hosting the Olympics any time soon and I don't think our fandom is trying to set any noise records like the dolts in College Station.

Thanks for the laugh. Secretly I do want a 120K stadium but I know its not practical so oh well.

"Premium Box Seating" in the end zone is a concept no one had until a couple of years ago. In the '70's we would have thought you got the bad acid.

The Longhorn ought to be outlined in orange neon lights. Give it kind of a 1950s throwback look, so as to blend the old and the modern.

That sounds cool; I can picture it looking good in overhead photos of the stadium. But to make it bright enough for the effect to work, the folks sitting in nearby seats would be incredibly annoyed.

Hmm, yeah. Perhaps they could just turn it on and dim the stadium lights in the minutes following the TD & PAT (night games of course)

Simply outlining it with bright orange paint might do the trick without the side effect of blinding anyone nearby.
Wrong shade of orange...but neon orange lights would be the wrong shade too.

Better idea: Everything inside the longhorn (walls, floors) painted completely white. If people are wearing orange to the game, it'll stand out.

There's no walls anymore and the stands do wrap around. That photo is a very early rendering of how the stadium renovation will look.

Unless they tear down the iron work there will be walls (inside of the red boxes.

Yeah - I see what you're saying - not sure how they're doing it, but more recent drawings show large (concrete maybe?) steps where the walls would be.
