people should quit getting their 'news' from television and go online and read scientific journals and quit worrying about when we will be able to safely get together in 100,000 person crowds again.

When I was in grad school almost fifty years ago I was in a seminar and read heavily in the historical literature on the bubonic plague et al. That plague and its sequels destroyed the old order of things. Other plagues have done the same things in Mexico at the time of the conquest and to the Comanches----one day they were the lords of the plains and the next winter what was left of them were begging for food at Fort Sill.

This is not nearly over. We are still in that stage of things when denial is the chief coping mechanism. The next stage is really scary. In nuremberg they threw the Jews down the well. Well, somebody has to be blamed, that is what we do.

Maybe the Chinese, maybe Trump or Pelosi, pick your favorite target. Doesn't matter in terms of what is to come.

This CV19 has been with us for less than 90 days and anyone who thinks they know what is going is not paying attention to the facts available to them.
The next time you hear someone comparing CV19 to car wrecks, seasonal flu, opiod overdoses, heart disease, etc etc remember we are less than 75 days into CV19 and the 33K+ deaths so far happened is that short period.

In the last two days we hit 7000+ deaths with social distancing in place for 90% of the country.

The trip to the peak is followed by a trip down the other side so we are not halfway by far.

    Stay safe.

Chicken Pox is nothing for a child, but really bad for an adult. Better to get it young than later in life. My kids were 100% up to date on their vaccines when they got the Chicken Pox so not sure how good it was or if they even had the vaccine at the time. They got them back in 2004.

from you that is a compliment.

Read about the history of small pox. Chinese healers (not knowing what they were doing) were purposely giving patients a weakened form of the virus as a cure this weakened form of the disease created the Antibodies that allowed their patients to be resistant to small pox for the rest of their lives.

We will defeat this thing by letting people under 40 back to work, school etc and let them get the virus, then utilize their antibodies to help other people fight it. It's a tried and true method of fighting viruses like this.

In some parts of the world without our resources we will be able to see how this "herd immunity pathway" plays out. It will most certainly be a deadly process. Watch Africa and Asia

From a non epidemiologist point of view...I can’t see the comparison from this pandemic in 2020 to Spanish Flu, Plubonic Plague, The Black Plague. Being that this is 2020 we have a medical system worldwide that is light years ahead of 1918 or the Middle Ages. I suppose this virus could mutate. Out of my league. But I contracted and survived it, so I’m working now and hopefully it will be more productive work in the next two weeks since we begin opening up the Texas Economy next week.

    Which is basically a vaccine.

Keep in mind we have no vaccine for Flu, Common Cold, AIDS. I’m sure many more. There may never be a vaccine for this. Or perhaps in 18 months. Dr. Glanville is working on it. But to say no sporting events or no release of the quarantine until a vaccine comes along???

Remember the Dems held up PPP funding for a Universal Basic Income proposal of $2K per month for every Adult American. This pandemic is more like H1N1 than anything else out there and it is being politicized! UBI would usher in outright communism. I’m not standing for that. This wait for the vaccine BS is political, 100%. Someday this will all come out.

I'm not sure if you are just making a rhetorical point but we have multiple vaccines for seasonal Flu and update them yearly for effectiveness. The common cold is not deadly. There are several treatments for AIDS and include the new PrepC that suppress the virus to the point is it undetectable.
The MLB and PGA/Golf are planning on presenting competitions without the usual fans present which is how most people watch the event anyway.

PGA first tournament is June 8th but for some future tournament they will have fans. The reopening is in phases. So we have to stay tuned on dates, etc.

As for Flu and AIDS there are treatments but no vaccine to eliminate it proactively. For example polio is no more, due to a vaccine. I’m not a medical professional so I am just telling you what I have learned ( Polio) or heard about in news cycles. I Know we have flu shots each year to treat it but it’s not a true vaccine. A vaccine is take it once and you’ll never get the disease. Flu mutates so fast that the Flu shots can only somewhat keep up with the yearly mutations of the Flu. My wife worked at Baylor College of Medicine in Infectious diseases. Anyway that’s my understanding, I’m not in that profession. Wife keeps me in the know!

I read the flu vaccine only reduces hospitalization by 10%. Not that effective.

There is a 50% chance that a very safe vaccine basically doesn’t work.

There is a 100% chance that injecting the live virus into people will be very effective but likely not too safe.

And that is why we open up Texas and the US soon, really soon. And we’ll have live sporting events including max capacity at DKR without a vaccine. I’m not saying this fall but I sure hope so.
We’ve been hoodwinked into closing down a $22 Trillion Economy and some people into accepting universal basic income.

That is called inoculation. Practiced in America until the 20th Century. Keep reading and you will catch up. A whole lot different from a contamination "party."

Depends on which genetic variant the vaccine is focused. Flu virus mutates often. Sars, thankfully, not so much so far.

Just beyond ignorant. Maybe you can go to church with Dan Patrick and that nut job of a US representative who thinks a 3% loss of life is acceptable for getting the economy back now instead of a few more months, if need be.

Shocking that Dr. Mengele still has followers.

So you recommend letting all the healthy working age adults (18-40s) go to work like normal, go back to school like normal, and get exposed to CV19 and some get infected just like normal.

The healthy adults go to work and get exposed is the plan.

Every day they leave their co workers and come home to their spouses, kids, neighbors, room mates, parents, grandparents, grandchildren etc.

With the goal of getting CV19 and building up the immunity of the survivors so that eventually everyone had it to establish herd immunity.

So we go back to Jan 1, 2020 and the survivors will have full employment.

Do you think this is a good plan?

I think you mischaracterized his plan. Those older and susceptible still need protection. If you live with someone who is susceptible you should work from home.

By the way if you are waiting on a vaccine, there is this:

There are several reasons why our upper respiratory tract is a hard area to target a vaccine.

"It's a separate immune system, if you like, which isn't easily accessible by vaccine technology," Professor Frazer told the Health Report.

Despite your upper respiratory tract feeling very much like it's insideyour body, it's effectively considered an external surface for the purposes of immunisation.

"It's a bit like trying to get a vaccine to kill a virus on the surface of your skin." -ABC News

Then why even bother with a pneumonia vaccine? Generalities are hard, but through my younger years (4 to 12 in the mid-to-late 50's and early 60's), I would get pneumonia and bronchitis in alternate years. 3 days of antibiotic shots killed it every time. They finally figured that allergies were the issue and the anti-allergy meds and shots took care of the issue with no further issues.

I was asking a question about the plan he presented as it appears that it would expose all of the healthy 40 and under working adults to CV19 exposure but when they come home from work they would expose the people that they live with CV19 whether old and susceptible or not.

The herd immunity benefit would come from all people that contract the infection whether at work among heathy adults or at home among family and friends.

If the plan is to exclude the work group from the rest of the group they come in contact with so that only the healthiest would get exposed I missed that point.

Perhaps a less drastic and lethal method would be to cultivate and administer a low dose CV19 amount so that the infection or viral load would be minimized as has been suggested as an alternate means to build immunity and then advance serum immunity from that larger group.

Vaccine is what the experts keep referring to as the solution in the absence of an available treatment but it takes time.

Comparing the virus to other flus is like comparing apples to whatever other sh- - that grows and you eat. I had the Asian flu that killed more Americans and it was the sickest I have ever been. But there is a big difference as to where we are today. Why? This stuff is on steroids when it comes to being contagious. You can pick it up a lot of different ways; even on the soles of your shoes.

And as to comparing the numbers. The big fallacy in comparing this to other flus is the same point PecosBill made. We have a crazy high number EVEN WITH social distancing, face masks, sanitized wipes, etc. This has never happened before. So why do talking heads like Rush, Tucker and others (I am not being political. I am a free market capitalist and the conservative chart line stops before it gets to me.) even suggests there is a valid comparison? The unknown factor is where would we be without these measures. Nobody knows but I fear that we might soon find out and I don’t think it will be good.

Somebody had better pull on the reins of the runaway horse, “open it up”. Slow and easy. Casual attitudes about this virus will kill. And don’t tell me that more people die from a common flu.

I think the vaccine solution is not so prevalent anymore but I could be wrong. Also, early antibody studies show virus vastly more contagious than acknowledged. We could be at herd immunity in 12-18 months (60% infection) before there is enough vaccine for everyone. One study showed 30% infection in a hard hit neighborhood in MA state.

Because. It is a stupid comparison and sends a false message. Take away the measures we have employed with this virus and see what happens. It’s like comparing a minor league power hitter’s number of home runs to that of a major league power hitter’s. That’s why.

Thankfully, we put a governor on this virus.

The statistics are skewed due to the large number of people in a relatively small area such as NYC. Wby would anyone be surprised it's worse there than elsewhere?
