    Anyone know Jeff Long?

    " ... According to testimony by Beaty, provided in February and published Wednesday by the Kansas City Star, Beaty was all but set to join the Texas staff as an analyst before Long intervened to stop it.

    Beaty testified that he had relocated from Lawrence to Austin and was given a UT employee ID number until Texas AD Chris Del Conte called Long as a courtesy, at which point Long allegedly said:

    “Jeff stated at that point … ‘I wouldn’t do that if I was you. His behavior is egregious,’” Beaty testified. “‘It was definitely Level I.’ And that … I think it made (Texas athletics director) Mr. Del Conte take pause.”
    * * *
    Beaty testified that he passed on opportunities to join the staffs at Missouri and Arkansas in order to work at Texas and, without the Texas job and his $3 million buyout withheld, Beaty said he generated income by giving motivational speeches and working as an Uber driver...."

    Not knowing when Deloss was going to retire there were always unofficial discussions as to whom would replace him. A plan was actually put in place in the mid 80s to groom one of our own, but it became obvious that Deloss was going nowhere any time soon.

    One of the two people that were later talked about the most were Long when he was at Arkansas and Jim Livengood. Doing business in XNA. I had the opportunity to meet several Arkansas alums, which included meeting Long at Herman's a few times. Coming from Ohio, being a yankee, he seemed like an unlikely fit in Washington County. Bad football hires doomed him at Arkansas. Just as ND changed Lou Holtz forever, the last few years in Fayetteville seem to totally change Long.

    Jim Livengood at Arizona actually turned down the AD position at Michigan, and although not confirmed there were rumors he turned down UCLA. He was considered the best candidate in the country until he hired John Mackovic, leading to his career going in the toilet.

    A good AD reminds me of the infamous line from Meat Loaf,

    "You never find gold on a sandy beach
    You'll never drill for oil on a city street
    I know you're looking for a ruby in a mountain of rocks
    But there ain't no coupe de ville hidin at the bottom of a Cracker Jack box"

    There are zero good ones out there. We have hit gold twice, we need to keep CDC really happy.

    Real happy. The next few years are going to be rough, and Texas needs a firm hand to navigate the unchartered territory we are now entering.

    So they got to screw Beaty out of $450K? Man, that is some serious scamming.

    Makes me think Kansas is better dropped in any new conference alignment plan.

    Jeff Long spent nearly a million dollars trying to screw David Beatty, and all he accomplished was costing KU an extra $500,000+ while ruining what’s left of what was once a very promising career.

    After Washington County, and now Lawrence, I hope Long has a good relationship with a couple of car dealerships.
