I’m lost on this “no one wins with three-star talent”. It’s not applicable to Texas, so it must be in reference to a post where someone said more or less that teams with only three-star recruits can win national/conference championships. Will someone reply with that post because I missed it.

We went from defending two recent 3-star commits to a hypothetical involving an entire team, though not Texas, of 3 stars. Absurd

I guess LJ Johnson has not completely written us off
And, IMO, we are still putting out cool graphics

    A few points to consider

    1. 2 of our 3 star guys are getting bumped up to 4 star in the next 247 adjustment.

    2. The class you see right now will change completely by signing day. Some of our commitments who committed without visiting will be gone, and guys who are currently committed to other programs will be signing with Texas. This is going to be a long bumpy road for every P5 program.

    3. Forget anything Rivals says, they put all their stock in camps they put on that will likely not take place this year. 247 who uses a lot of film is not perfect either because there won't be much actual face to face testing. This is going to be a year where Texas will likely move on from guys that are committed after face to face visits simply because they aren't the athletes they thought they were getting.

In other words, don't sweat it, this is going to be a very long process. Trust the coaches on the guys who they have relationships with and who have already visited. The rest will work themselves out.

    One last thing.

I've said this before and I will say it again. The difference between a high 4'star and a 5'star is nothing, as expectations are about the same. The difference between a high 3'star and a low 4'star is nothing.

I would rather have the high 3'star and the high 4'star for this one reason. These kids have egos and when they don't get the bump they think they deserve they come in ready to work their asses off without all the expectations of entitlement.

So anyone that complains we have too many 3'stars, I say good, because what they don't have in God given talent, they will make up for in grit and determination. That will in turn help those higher ranked guys work harder.

Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, Georgia... check their recruiting. Where do we rate. Not on that level. OU, Auburn, Florida, Michigan, Penn State... where do we rate? On their level? Then we see Tennessee and USC looking good on Rivals.

And check North Carolina. Mack freakin' Brown.

I don't see how anyone can think we are no-brainer destination for TOP national championship caliber players.

Come back when you’ve mastered the terribly complicated Posting Guidelines we went over in March. Or don’t.

The problem lies in development and reaching potential. If a high 4 or 5 star player doesn't reach their potential you still have a solid player on your team. Yes, once in a while you get a diamond in the rough like Colt and Foreman; but those are few and far between. Usually if that 3 star gets good he still might not be on the same level as those high 4 and 5 stars......If that 3 star guy doesn't develop you don't have squat, and you have 8-5 and 7-5 seasons or worse. That is why you have to land lots of high 4 and 5 star guys like Bama, tOSU, Clemson, etc... if you want to vie for championships.

And the first round NFL draft this year? How about everyone except Patterson missing on Gladney? How about the 50% decline in highly rated recruits who just do not make it in college? It is all a crap shoot.

Anyway, this is a 2021 Texas recruiting thread and this generalized debate should be a separate thread.

Cain's tape does look good but not sure competition level, could see him at the X in our offense, especially near goal line. I saw he runs 4.7+, that's probably why no one else is on him.

PSA for all posters - No need to respond with Lil' Jordan's 40 time. I and everyone else on here know....

Competition level is there, some of those teams are better than D-II college teams

Northshore won the state 6A championship, and Westfield took them to the last play.

Why do you think Herman fired most of his staff?

He kept the the following guys
Hand - He did a good job 2 years ago, struggled last year, we shall see what he looks like with the best talent he has had while at Texas.

Giles - Not a great recruiter per say, but he is fantastic at developing talent. This is why he kept his job.

Drayton - His track record speaks for itself, he is one of the very best.

Now we bring in guys with a track record for developing talent, and you want to complain because they aren't getting commitments from 5'star guys? Get real, this is the most unusual year ever. As I said, I don't expect a lot of these guys who have committed recently to stick simply because there were no camps for the coaches to personally meet them, and once play begins a lot of guys from many programs will start to take their visits and things will change for everyone.

Most important, we will see first hand what this staff can do with the best talent Texas has had since 2009.

Giles, per se, has some pretty impressive guys on the DL. Wilton and Chisolm, not bad players at all, just up and left rather than compete with the younger recruits.

    Tend to agree
Check out the interior DL we are looking at for the next few years

2020 - Coburn, Graham, Ojomo, Sweat

2021 - Coburn, Ojomo, Sweat, Broughton, Collins

2022 - Ojomo, Sweat, Broughton, Collins, Goram-Welch, Turner

To me, this looks like better interior DL depth than we have had in a long time. Plus some of the current and new DEs will likely grow themselves inside

That is what I had in mind. Maybe after we beat them this Fall (assuming we play) he will be straight w/ it. I think there's about to be a power shift.

We need to open an "Academy" in Austin. Maybe several of their families could use 100K jobs at the new school as well.
