The "UNDER 24" crowd has less of a chance of dying from the coronavirus than they do of dying from lightning

Speaking of Mukuba, based on what the Clemson 247 mod is saying, the likelihood of him landing there do not seem that high atm. He has not visited and Dabo historically does not officially offer until has has met them in person on campus. Their mod says they have a bunch of safety targets who have already visited and they rate them more or less the same. And that is for one safety spot in this class.

In terms of CBs, he still has 3 to Texas, 2 to Clemson and 1 to ou.

    We need --
more high draft picks (we are projected to have 2 first round picks next year, possibly even 3 (Cosmi/Sterns/Ossai) - this will help)
    to beat ou
    win the conf
    make the playoffs
    That's all

Just going 9-4 last season would have looked much better. And it was easily within grasp. The only good thing from all that (besides the unexpected bowl win) was at least Herman finally recognized that his own job was on the line and he had better get some better assistants. But why did that take so long (for such a smart guy) to see that?

We are set up even better for 2020. If we fudge this then I dont even want to think about how bad it will get. It would reinforce every negative perception about our program. Even as we've recruited well lately, we have still been missing on the tip top 5-stars. If we crumble again in 2020 then it will make that battle even harder than it is now. I dont know about Herman's job then either. The collapse of oil will probably make it more challenging to dump him (plus he would be signed by someone else quickly and probably win there, which would double down on all those negative perceptions). But if CDC was willing to re-up Skaka, can he justify dumping Herman? Hard to see.

It seems like Herman gives away a game or two every season too. This obviously must end in order to get to where we want to go

2017 -- 7-6 beating MO in Texas Bowl but 9-wins easily within reach
    Dumb losses
    Marland 41-51 at home
Tech 23-27 at home (still have no idea how we lost this one)

2018 - 10-4 w/ nice Sugar Bowl win, but 11 or even 12-wins were within reach
    Dumb losses
Maryland 29-34 (MD was a 5-7 team - had the bad Sam pick after rain delay)
Okie St 35-38 (OSU 7–6, 3–6 in conf, next to last - the bad Sam brain fart pick)
WVU 41-42 (stupid 2-point conversion at the end of the game)

2019 - 8-5 with nice bowl win over Utah - 9-wins easily within reach, arguably 10
    Worst losses
LSU 38-45 - who knows what happens if Ingram catches that wide open TD pass (but it's hard to call this one a "dumb loss")
TCU 27-37 (we let Max Duggan steal our lunch money)
Iowa St 21-23 (we let Brock Purdy steal our lunch money)
Baylor 10-24 (Matt Rhule is a better coach than Herman, I am glad he is gone)

I think it's Generally agreed that Reilly (OK) is regarded as a top tier coach and thus is the elephant in the room.ugh. Our coaching staff has to step up or get. So I agree with some posters who say we need to open up the bank vault and get a top tier coaçh and top assistants, away with the hopefuls, so that we stop the bleeding of losing top recruits.

I always thought that player development has been good to ok under Tom Herman as I really cannot think of a group of guys who I think really under performed. So I never bought into the player development reason for the team being bad for the last decade (in general by my standards). Now that I see how many recruits are washing out, I think the huge problem of the past decade is recruiting quality players who can stay with the program. As their is reasonable depth now, hopefully this problem is gone. 2016 was certainly a train wreck.

247 has dropped Derrick Harris to a 3-star (#76 in Texas) - but he is still a Composite 4-star

Morice Blackwell is now a composite 4-star -- the #24 OLB natl in the Comp

Shemar Turner is now #67 in the nation on 247. He has a Composite score of .9456

Ishmael Ibraheem dropped to a low 4-star. In the Comp, he is still a 4-sar with a .9269 rating and is the #13 CB nationally in the Comp (247 has him as the #17 CB)

247 bumped ILB Andrew Jones up to #160 in the nation (#6 ILB and #9 in LA)

Jaydon Williams is a 4-star too

Lastly, aggys' most recent DL commit was dropped to 3 star

    That is all

I like Jones, hope we reel him in

Wiltfong put in a prediction for the Brocks to Alabama (Conf level 6)
But then hedged and said Texas possible "wouldn't be a shock"

No injuries decimating two positions helps. We ***** and whine about 7-5, but it could easily have been much worse. Imagine no Ehlinger. It could have been a little better also with a healthy Collin Johnson, too. Or even a healthy Jordan Whittington.

Recruiting pablum or actual fact? Also I thought he was referencing DL only?

Also this is Herman's first year of a mature but truncated draft class. He has no currently relevant point. We know Strong did not develop players well. Surprised JF got catfished on this drivel.

And followed Stoops. A whole world away from following Charlie Strong's 3 years of chaos after Mack's 3 years of decline.

Prince, Collins and Broughton should get Redshirt playing time.

Hand is interesting because he is a good position coach developmentally. I think he was either overridden or ignored on offensive game planning. We should see this year (or this next Spring).

Sam gave away a lot of those games, can't blame Herman for those. I look at it differently than most Horn fans on here, I don't think we have much talent (See NFL Draft last 3 years) and it is getting better but Herman needs 3-4 more recruiting classes to get the depth we need to compete at a top 10 level week in week out. I laugh at the MNC next year or he's fired folks. The fact that we are beating and playing with teams that have the same or better is impressive.

Now if we can start getting more dudes then we will be in a good spot. 2021 is going to be a really rough year with JR's on Defense possibly coming out early, no qb with experience, and a Defensive secondary with hardly any experience.

I like what I'm seeing, this team was an abortion before Herman arrived - Im sure we've all heard the horror stories of the practices, lack of scheme, fundamentals being taught etc by Strong and Co.

No it is not all Herman players. But does that even matter?
Do you want to be the one to sit him down and try to convince him that "it's really not quite as bad as it seems?"
    Have fun with that
This is the perception we are fighting against
Do you think Tunmise did the research himself then got out his calculator?
    Hardly
He is regurgitating what he was shown and told just like Princely did
It is a pretty strong recruiting weapon to use against us
I can quickly think of some responses that Herman & Co could use to refute this perception, but that is not the point.

The point is that the tip top players want to --
    1. Get drafted into the League
    2. Win
    ....
    20. Have fun in Austin

It is on us to pick it up. If Herman is as smart as he thinks he is, he will figure it out. And I do not even want to think about cycling through this process again with yet another new hire.

I'm going to say it once more the backup QBs need playing time and I'm not talking about handing off in garbage time. You don't learn how to grind in that kind of play, Whether it's Thompson(most likely)
    or card or Jackson.

But COVID-19 transmission is preventable whereas lightning is not. Both require informed precautions.

While I agree with your reasoning, we need to learn how to get out front and stay there to get them that needed experience.

Covid transmission is what leads to herd immunity and vast majority of under 24s will have little or no symptoms. And grandma doesn't live in their dorm room.

Who did Rhule follow and what did he inherit? There is an old saying that says you know what you got at the end of year 3 in a coach. Year 3 Saban won Championship after taking over from Shula. I am not throwing in the towel on Herman, but there is definitely some hand writing on the wall. One notable exception, year 3 Dabo had a losing record, so we can be optimistic.
