When I started at UT the IM fields were where Jester is now.

I parked at a private lot on Whitis.

Hey, I was reffing for them in '80-83. That and waiting tables at Scottish Rite. Both were good gigs......

I worked all the way through college, so I never got extra time for this luxury...I can remember thinking that my red hair and fair skin wasn't going to tan any how....

the design and structure of the West side stands has held up well over the years...I was at the first game when people sat in the stands (or, Wally Pryor led me to believe it was the first time...it was a night that was pouring down with lightning, you name it...Wally announced that being the first person under the new upper deck that he'd hoped that the architects had calculated properly....

You would have been at a very high risk of developing skin cancer 25+ years later, so count yourself blessed.

    UT in the 1950s.
Some of the older wood structures were still on campus when I started in the year of Whitman.

Notice the "diverse" mix of Caucasians.

Thanks for posting that. I'm going to share the link with my Gen Z daughter, who is graduating from The University this weekend (sans ceremonies, of course, and she couldn't possibly care less). She'll get a kick out of this.

I started in '72 and there were barracks down by the stadium where the Rec Sports basketball courts were later put....no, A/C...pretty "bare bones"....very cheap....can't remember when they were torn down.....

I wish I had found myself to the Scottish Rite....for a brief time I worked at Jester Cafeteria with the dubious chore of taking people's trays with all the plates and half-eaten food and cleaning those and loading them into the dishwasher....it was a very brief stay....it took me almost no time to realize that I didn't need money that bad...so hot, so sweaty, so disgusting...I always needed to go up to my room and take a 30 minute shower to get the slimy grime of of me...and some days I didn't have time for that....had to go directly to class....at that point it started beating my soul down...all of this to have enough money to take "the LOVE of my LIFE" to the Bucket on Saturdays....

This was an allsome video on so many levels - thank you for sharing it.

I suspect by clues such as cars, clothes, football uniforms, band, etc. that in general most clips in the video were taken in the early 1950's. For example: Ed Price's teams wore orange helmets, DKR arrived in 1957 and the orange helmets went away.

I was at the campus this weekend. The West side stands look good with the two-tone paint job (gray and off-white).

However, the very top of the stands is still bare concrete. Some things look good with age. Concrete ain't one of 'em.

Jester Beach, 2020. I asked my daughter if anyone still sunbathes there. She gave me a look that signified that I had posed a really dumb question. "Dad, NOBODY sunbathes anymore! Skin cancer, y'know?"

Your right, that 50 year old concrete looks tired and dirty. It needs paint too. Maybe that is the next project for CD.

Now that's the Austin I loved. I got here in '87 and it looked exactly the same. I miss that Austin.
