The FBI, DOJ, and police departments all need to be scaled back.

Phil, you inadvertently threw LH a hanging curveball that even he couldn’t miss. :brickwall:

Of course, BLM is primarily a militant organization. Really, you say? Well, if you try to have discussion with one of them or, God forbid, disagree with “anything,” they attack you. Seems like a classic militant response to me.

Yes they do. Not gutted, but definitely scaled back.

If by scaling back you mean not raiding an old man's home with 20 swat police, then yes.

There are reasons why there is a Deep State and people are frustrated with the police.

Too much money coming in, taxes and civil asset forfeiture. Too many petty laws to enforce, it increases interactions and intensifies them. Too much military gear. Too much legal immunity. Too little security provision, SCOTUS says they have no obligation to protect citizens. This is why monopolies are so dangerous, there is no feedback loop.

There's truth to this. I'm not a cop hater, and I don't buy into the "systemic racism" *********. It's contrary to the overwhelming weight of the evidence (and is an unhelpful diversion). However, that doesn't mean there's nothing wrong with the police and the prosecution of people in general.

There are too many petty laws. Drug laws are some of them, but there are even goofier ones. Civil asset forfeiture is ridiculous. Police departments are becoming revenue sources. All of that is bad. Furthermore, the military gear should be scaled back. I understand the need for SWAT teams, but they should very seldom deployed (such as when a bunch of freaks take over several blocks of a major city).

All sovereign immunity (including qualified immunity for cops) should be eliminated. It's a relic of the British crown, and it should have gone away when the British crown went away (or at least left the United States).

The court system favors prosecution. Most criminal court judges are former prosecutors and think like and sympathize with prosecutors. It makes a difference. Juries are extremely hostile to and distrusting of criminal defendants and overly deferential to police and prosecutors. That's understandable to a point, but it's excessive. Furthermore, appellate courts are extremely deferential to criminal jury verdicts (while becoming very non-deferential to civil jury verdicts, when the opposite is supposed to be the case because of the different burdens of proof). However, that's not an anti-black thing. It's a corrupt judicial system thing.

I'm not surprised he did it, but I am surprised he did it before the election.

Stone was to report to prison July 14. I guess he didn’t want his old buddy getting raped Or abused.

Interesting it was a commutation and not a pardon.

Liberals are whining about it, including Romney. It's amazing to me with all that we know how people still can't figure out this whole investigation was a fraud.

    Oh BIG surprise
Pelosi is calling for Trump to be investigated for commuting Stone's sentence.

I don't like pardons of political buddies. It looks shady on its face. However, we learned from the Marc Rich pardon that the pardoning power is absolute and never impeachable unless it's combined with some other crime like bribery.

The judge in Stone's case thought it was okay for the foreperson of the jury to do what she did and declined a new trial for Stone. Look at how Sullivan is still trying to get Flynn for something despite clear signs of prosecutorial misconduct.. We should be more alarmed at what's happening here then Trump's commuting of Stone's sentence.

"Bill Clinton pardoned his own brother for felony distribution of cocaine.
And a key witness in the Whitewater scandal for which he and Hillary Clinton were under investigation. And three others convicted in independent counsel Ken Starr’s probe. And Marc Rich, in what was a straight up political payoff. And his CIA director. And his HUD secretary. And eight people convicted in an investigation of his Agriculture Department....."

Elect, pardon, repeat. Those showing disgruntlement about this are dimwits. Happens, in a much more disgustingly fashion, in every admin.

I'm not sure how the hell that lady got on the jury. Her bias seemed pretty obvious based on her background and social media posts. I'm not sure when lawyers get a copy of the jury list in that court, but my common practice was to Google and lookup on social media everybody who had any realistic chance of getting on the jury. Unless I got the list just as I was walking into court, this lady would have stuck out like a sore thumb.

Henry Cisneros pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor for lying about a minor matter relating to how much he was paying in hush money to his mistress (he did not have the funds to pay her a non disclosure sum or friendly enough with the National Enquirer to get them to pay to not play) and Clinton pardoned him the day he left office

Either case pales in comparison to what Clinton did in the Marc Rich case or what Obama did in pardoning that unrepentant terrorist murderer from Puerto Rico.
