    WorsterMan SEC here we come!!

^^^^ In today's highly charged environment, I semi "get" Eagles and a few other players getting coached up by outsiders to make demands for some changes, perhaps a few that might be needed, others not at all.

However, what has pissed me off the most of the whole thing was the HC response. To make the players feel good Herman threw the UT fans TOTALLY under the bus as racists, etc., etc. This was TERRIBLY reckless, irresponsible & wrong. Broad brush racism applied to hundreds of thousands of fans.

What kind of leader does this???

TH do you think this will make the fans want to support YOU?

If Herman does not step up, he needs to be shown the door. I would rather watch the mediocre teams of David McWilliams who played hard every game versus 4 and 5 star SJW's who spend more time on twitter than practice.

Once again, we don't know what happened and who was involved, and in which order. If Herman indeed humped the puppy, Chris could see revenues go from well over $200 million to less than $50 million. That's gets lots of people's attention, and not in a good way. Cause or no cause, paying Herman $15 million to go away plus $5 million buyout o new coach is peanuts if Chris can keep $100 million plus in income.

I have asked before, could this have been handled any worse? Whether the kids' puppeteer or Herman caused the most damage remains to be revealed. If it's the kids, they are done. I can't see them playing anywhere and certainly not taking the cancer to the NFL. Once their usefulness is used up, the puppeteers will be gone. Would you hire one of them with this track record? If it's Herman, I hope he has a license to sell insurance or stocks because he's through as a coach.

I leave it Chris' most capable hands to resolve and communicate back to us.

Just like most things, many will pound their fists saying they will never buy a ticket again or a shirt, etc. That will be short lived and revenue will be right back up. Especially if the Binder fields a winning team.

So much angst over white privileged recreational college football viewing being impinged upon and so little thought to the civil rights history of the last 155 years.

It is real simple. Put every citizen on the same footing and move forward as one society or keep the racial bias and the inherent social fragmentation of our society like the last 155 years. Those of us who step up and do better will move forward as one stronger American society, those who do not are doomed to live in a dying segregated America that is dying before your eyes.

The question is, "For what do you stand?" The question is not, "Which team will I watch on Saturday?"

The problem is that too many believe that events of a century and a half ago mean someone NOW is entitled to make demands to rewrite history. That ain't happening...

The reality is that the minority population has HAD opportunities to succeed given to them and they refuse to take them. Instead, we continue to see falsehoods being taught in the homes (where else do you believe a 5yo gets indoctrinated that ANY police officer is a bad person). Too many want handouts and continue electing a candidate from the party that promises them the world but CONSISTENTLY fails to deliver.

Players come to a school and may reasonably be presumed to have learned about the culture of a program and what was going on when they visited. Schools did not suddenly become 'systemically racist' between the official visit and the inking of the Agreement that forms the basis for the scholarship. If they don't want to be here, fine...there is even a transfer portal for them now. They can be malcontents elsewhere. And this holds true no matter WHAT race(s) form their personal history.

Chris, who was already in a difficult position with the Covid 19, has been put in a much more difficult position by Herman.

As I think of decisions that are going to be made, I think of fans and race relations in this day and age.

I opine that the one area that seemed to always transcend race was sports
    and male fans.
I think about going to my son’s football games and sitting in the stands with black, white and Mexican dads cheering our kids and talking football. Not politics, not religion, not race or anything other than sports. I think about arriving back at the gym and waiting to pick my kid up along with the other assorted race dads and discussing the game, the refs, coaches decisions and patting each other on the back for our sons performances. Win or lose, great sports talks and laughs. Never a thought of politics or race.
Same interaction with fans of different races at other sports Longhorns, Spurs, Texans and Astros.
The last Astros game I attended, I ended up sitting next to middle aged aggy Astros fan. Although having to intellectually talk to him as a child, we talked baseball and sports. We did not talk politics or race.
Last November waiting on my car at the dealership, I sat down next to a black guy who was also waiting on his car. We started chit chatting and within five minutes were talking college football and continued for the next hour and 39 minutes. Never ran out of college football material to talk about and never talked race or politics. He was a Stanford fan.
The point to me is this area has always been an area for men that transcends political and race issues.

I bring my up thought up as I believe outside influences realize this bonding of fans of all races and seeks division.

My advice to Chris would be:
    1. Force Herman to send a letter of apology to all donors and season ticket holders.
    2. Fire Herman at the end of this year.
    3. Advise the players that any political demands be made through their student government, not the athletic department or Football program.
    4. All football traditions including singing “The eyes of Texas” is required by the players. No disrespect to fans by staging protests during athletic event. Any occurrence will result in automatic loss of scholarship.
    5. Players as students have the right to protest at other venues and address grievances through other venues(diversity dept, student govt etc) without reprisal.
    6. Decisions by the athletic department and the University of Texas will not be determined by athletes refusing to play.
    7. If an athlete refuses to play, their scholarship will be immediately forfeited.

I think the point is that he talks to male strangers (regardles of race) about sports and it is good common ground that can lead to friendship. I do not open with politics, religion or race relations with strangers of any race. I do open with sports and continue with it if they are interested. I mean, can you imagine walking up to any stranger and going "how bout that black lives matter movement?" or "how about that Donald Trump?"

Admittedly, while not all my friends are sports fanatics, I do have a harder time finding common ground with strangers who are men, whether they look like me or do not look like me, if they are not into sports. Of course, people in general have trouble talking to people they cannot relate to if they do not have common interests.

I am sure IvanDiabloHorn's point was that sports is a good common for strangers white, black, etc in general to start with to get to know one another. I think he is saying we should keep sports as a common ground for all to learn and understand one another. If sports become divisive, we as a society become more divided. We have enough third rails as it is. We need more things that build bridges and bring people together. I am not sure why you want to pick apart this message.

Are you against people finding common ground with strangers?

What? Male fans of all races can talk sports as a common interest without politics and race. I gave examples. I could have given examples of talking sports with white guys, but wasn’t the point.
Sports fan talk is a bridge that is cohesive regardless of race.

Well, in your own sentence, you make it clear that we will not be "one stronger american society." You basically say "those that agree with the mob will be welcome by the mob and those that do not will be outcast." This thought process if the antitheses of the thought process needed for a free, fair and equal society. It is thought process used by those that seek to persecute whomever disagrees with them and silence any dissent at the expense of rational thought and debate. The road to hell is paved with good intentions....

If you stand for the right thing, you should be able to defend your truth on its merits without silencing, threatening, persecuting or excluding others. If you fear dissent or debate... then you are not confident in your truth.

Here’s a Left Field Idea. And a real long shot...

Agree to “some of the building name demands” with the caveat that the players must a) officially disavow some of the militant tactics (to be defined) used by BLM, b), agree that they do not support the violent behavior we have witnessed, and also, c) they must acknowledge that the fundamental issues facing the black community have nothing to do with a name on a building or the derivation of a song.

Yep, a pipe dream. But wouldn’t you love to see CDC pose that quid pro quo? If nothing else it might make them think.

First, Chris has nothing to do with the building and statue demands. That falls on the President, and thank the Good Lord that Berzerkley midget is gone.

I believe that Chris has control over all athletics, including the music played and when it is played. He also has control over those one year scholarships being renewed and the coaches contracts. I have voiced my opinions on those to our president and AD; I hope you have as well.

I see his attempt at making a point but certainly don’t find it compelling. Based solely on what he wrote, he talks about only sports with minorities, which implies that he doesn’t talk about things he does with white people. It’s just a strange point and one could argue it’s analogous to assuming any black student on campus must play sports.

The more I read this, the more I like it.

It would take extraordinary courage to put this out there but if someone like CDC did, they would both be attacked, and elevated to saint status.

    It’s about leadership.

Actually, he talked about instances of talking sports with people, and used examples of talking with people who do not look like him about sports. I think it was pretty clear he implied he talked about sports with anyone, including white people, and clarified it in a follow up.

I think you did not like the speaker and what else he wrote, so you chose to interpret the post in the worst light possible and in an "obtuse" way.
