Will fans still sing The Eyes post-game even if its banned?

My sense is that fans will indeed start singing "The Eyes of Texas" on their own at the conclusion of all games, home or away, no matter what the players, head coach, AD, school President, Board of Regents or ESPN/LHN say. I am just speculating here, but my best guess is that if fans are ordered not to sing, then they will sing even louder. And yet even louder again if its a night game.

So I wonder, assuming my prediction is correct, what will the various parties in opposition to "The Eyes of Texas" do about it?
Maybe they would just pipe in even louder music over the PA system to drown the singing out? ("M A.A.d City" by Kendrick Lamar might be the perfect song for that, just for the irony). Could this actually happen? Would a school, our school, try to stop its own graduates and fans from the long-held tradition of singing the school's 100-year old fight song after a football game?

How will the woke fans respond? Will they "boo" the school song? (Maybe they already do?) Will they start fights over it? Could fights break out in our own stadium, among our own fans, after a home game victory -- putting some literal fight into the fight song!!!? That would really be something.

How will the players respond? Will they turn their backs on The Eyes and walk away? Might they even go so far as showing the "horns down" like a bunch of aggies or land thieves? Maybe some players would join in the singing while others walked away with their feelings hurt? If so, how big of split might that cause within team dynamics?

    Joe,

I have never left a game early, always stay through the singing. Most people around me sing even louder to drowned me out because I can't carry a tune in a tow sack I shall continue to "encourage" others.

I have always felt that not singing with/to the players is the ultimate insult to them. If they quit during the game or act out, my standing with Horns Up in silence is a possibility.

I would expect something akin to when they banned prayer at high school football games. During the ‘moment of silence’ you could hear students & fans reciting the Lord’s Prayer on their own.

I’ll sing The Eyes whether it’s allowed or not.
They can throw me out of the stadium or arrest me or both. f**k them. :hookem:

If they ban it and people still pay to go to games, well, that's on them. My days of watching Texas football will be over if they do that.

I too HATE that we even have to discuss / consider this...

In the end, I suspect that enough fans, students, alumni and BMD's have made it clear to CDC and the powers that be, they want The Eyes to remain. The decision will be reached to keep the song but players will not be "required" to sing it or remain in place for it.

Regardless, when I'm at the game, I will stand, throw up my hook 'em and sing it loud.

    Just my .02

When the Longhorn defense is on the field, doesn't the band play (ominously) the first few bars of the Eyes of Texas before the third down play? I always liked that but, now that I think about it, our third down defensive results seem pretty bad of late.

Must be the song and not our scheme or coaching that is subliminally degrading player performance.

I don't post much and y'all don't know me so let me help out in case you are wondering: the above is my attempt at sarcasm.

That is where I got the idea. I was thinking, well I am going to stand there and sing anyway. Figuring I would not be alone. It is unrealistic and unreasonable to expect such a humongous fanbase to dump a time-honored tradition overnight.

I know for a fact that as a kid, Sabre's mother gave him money for singin' lessons but he spent it instead on candy, gum, snacks and soft drinks!

They didn't seem to have a problem with The Eyes on 9/4/16.

(Then again, that was 4 years ago)

They have succeeded in what they wanted to do. They have made a fracture in the fan base. Now, when we stand up to sing the eyes, there will be people around us sitting down and talking crap.

Well for sure, all the out of the closet white supremacists will.

Probably will whistle Dixie too while insisting the Stars and Bars stay on the Mississippi flag.

I mean why quit advocating for racial supremacy now? It has worked for 155 years, right?

Anyone who goes ahead and sings it is a white supremacist? Only white people would go ahead and sing it?

Assuming you went to UT, I'm sure you never sang The Eyes because you were so "woke" you already knew there was some extremely loose connection to a 1903 minstrel show. You've spent your post-grad years educating and warning everyone on campus that the song is racist, and you're currently enjoying your own "I told you so" moment. Yes?

He's usually pretty busy telling everyone why any critique of the coaches and team is incorrect. May not have had time to get woke on all that until now.

It would be impossible to get the whole stadium to sing it together. People in your immediate vicinity could hear you sing, but that's it.

Even if 100% of the stadium is singing at roughly the same time, they'd start the song at different times, sing at different tempos, and sing in different keys. You probably couldn't even tell anyone was singing at all; it would blend into a mish-mash of crowd noise. It would sound and look like everyone was cheering and throwing up the horns, both of which would be expected after any game.

With that being the case, I don't think anyone would care whether anyone was singing or not.
