My sense is that fans will indeed start singing "The Eyes of Texas" on their own at the conclusion of all games, home or away, no matter what the players, head coach, AD, school President, Board of Regents or ESPN/LHN say. I am just speculating here, but my best guess is that if fans are ordered not to sing, then they will sing even louder. And yet even louder again if its a night game.
So I wonder, assuming my prediction is correct, what will the various parties in opposition to "The Eyes of Texas" do about it?
Maybe they would just pipe in even louder music over the PA system to drown the singing out? ("M A.A.d City" by Kendrick Lamar might be the perfect song for that, just for the irony). Could this actually happen? Would a school, our school, try to stop its own graduates and fans from the long-held tradition of singing the school's 100-year old fight song after a football game?
How will the woke fans respond? Will they "boo" the school song? (Maybe they already do?) Will they start fights over it? Could fights break out in our own stadium, among our own fans, after a home game victory -- putting some literal fight into the fight song!!!? That would really be something.
How will the players respond? Will they turn their backs on The Eyes and walk away? Might they even go so far as showing the "horns down" like a bunch of aggies or land thieves? Maybe some players would join in the singing while others walked away with their feelings hurt? If so, how big of split might that cause within team dynamics?
