If they cave in to loud mouth kids that have zero idea what they’re talking about and get rid of these traditions, I am 100% out also in all things dealing with The University.

UT is going to reap what they sow.

Unless they can finish building the new one by September (they are still working on the steel part of the structure) not an issue for 2020.

Talking with my alumni buds, depending on what decisions are made, there may be a much smaller crop. Or not, up to the decision makers.

Kind of reminds me of the $12.00/hr clerk that gets into it with a $100,000/yr customer and the dispute is brought to the manager. There are plenty of $12.00 clerks, but few $100,000 customers. I hope this concept is not lost by UT.

I sincerely hope you have expressed your opinions to Chris & Jay. Right or wrong, agree with us, or against us. like Deloss said they need our "ammunition" to move forward.

25,00.,50,000, 100,00+ alums and supporters vs 20-30 malcontents?

On September 21, 1780, during the American Revolution, American General Benedict Arnold meets with British Major John Andre to discuss handing over West Point to the British, in return for the promise of a large sum of money and a high position in the British army. The plot was foiled and Arnold, a former American hero, became synonymous with the word “traitor.”
When Benedict Arnold betrayed the budding USA, thus committing treason, the newly claimed Country (USA) (formerly the Colonies) , was engaged in the Revolutionary War against England. So Arnold, born in America, was siding with England, which certainly was not his country.

His actions and California Liberal slant on the Floyd murder along with his BS rants about fans, etc...was HUGE in the players acting out with demands and extortion.

I am so disgusted and disheartened by this entire saga that at this point, I’m not sure if I care whether or not there is a 2020 season, and whether or not Texas wins any games if there is.

If someone doesn’t step up soon, the entire foundation of this country — our constitution, our founding fathers — will either be removed, renamed or rewritten.

If no one has the courage to object, this country as we know it will cease to exist. Too dramatic? Man do I hope so but everything I am observing seems to suggest otherwise.

    Duke,

I don't think you are being "too dramatic". As I have said before, I have two grandchildren in middle school, and I have sat down with both of them and apologized for what my generation is leaving them.

Where do you turn for help? Elected officials are worthless as tits on a boar hog and not nearly as reliable. Every one of them, on both sides of the aisle. are afraid of media criticism. Educators are being forced to teach revisionist history to suit the desires of special interest groups.

Unfortunately the answer isn't Donald Trump, and sure as hell isn't anyone in the Democrat party. I have decided to try every day to enjoy the time I have left, savor the memories of the past, and hope that sanity returns to our nation.

The truth is that the one true privilege all law abiding citizens enjoy in this country is freedom. Freedom is the great privilege. This privilege is so special, it allows all of those that want to take away freedom to operate freely. Because of that, this privilege will always need to be earned by standing up to those that want to take away freedom. Will Americans stand once again for freedom and earn it? For the first time since 1776, I am really not sure.

    WorsterMan SEC here we come!!

Covid-19 is serious... in time there will be better treatment. The pandemic will calm down at some point.

IMO a much bigger threat to the nation right now is from the Marxist, Antifa, followers of Saul Alinsky, anarchists, radicals, far left, America haters or lump 'em all together - the enemies of the state.

The enemies of the state & the biased media have succeeded sewing PC into society long ago.

This issue is allowing and empowering them to silence anyone who dares speak up, challenge them, defend anything by shouting them down as: racist, bigots, fascists, etc.

Unfortunately, outside of Trump and a handful of members of Congress, most leaders, politicians - national, state, local, etc. are silent. AFRAID to speak up or out, much less take action to quell some of the lawlessness & violence we see in our cities. These leaders fear the risk to their career being labeled one or more of the names I mentioned, especially racist.

Blue state leaders agree with or are largely indifferent to these thugs.

So, who will step up and show leadership during this very difficult time?

Agree completely with WorsterMan. What is going on is much bigger than statues and The Eyes of Texas. Been a Longhorn fan since age 5. Attended, listened to or seen almost every football game for about 50 years. hate it but the only way to try to get divisive radical politics out of our sports and universities is to quit supporting them. I will be hunting or fishing, hoping that those that still attend are able to sing "Eyes".

I feel certain that fans will still sing it, the band will still play it and the majority of the team, pom and cheerleaders will come over with Horns raised high to sing along. Will there be a few players in protest who leave the field? Of course there will and ya'll we get all riled up about it and tell them to enter the portal. I view the demands about 'The Eyes' to be a standard negotiation tactic of "open extreme". You make extreme demands (ok I know some of you have called it extortion) in an effort to knock the other side off balance which then gives leverage to other items. You could also call it a 'red herring' which they know they will make a concession on. I suspect there have already been closed door discussions regarding 'The Eyes' and agreements have already been made it isn't going away. I think you can disregard the request/demand/extortion and get your vocal cords ready to sing when we can all fill the stadium again.

Isn't it ironic. I too stay to the end, even when we got crushed, because I viewed the singing of "The Eyes" as a way of telling the team that we are still behind them no matter the result of the game. We appreciated their effort even when it didn't result in a W. Isn't it funny that a song that has for so many of us been a way to demonstrate support for this team, that these people are now telling us that this same song is re-interpreted as racist at this point.

My question is this; was the university blind-sided by all of this or were there serious, sincere, good-faith negotiations going on behind closed doors that fell apart because some BMD said some insensitive things?

If the players opened with this, in public, demanding what they demanded in an "or else" manner then I have no sympathy for much of what they want.

Exactly. As I stated in an earlier post, there is nothing in the song itself that could be reasonably construed as racist. Their assertion is based solely on the venue in which it was introduced. (if The Eyes had debuted at a dorm talent show or the like, would this even be an issue? Not fairly likely). And as you pointed out, the main intent of singing The Eyes (for longer than most of us have been alive) is to support the athletes, to support our fellow Longhorns, and to support the ideals of The University! (well, and perhaps to annoy and demean aggy, too. But that's OK.)
Sorry for the rant and for stating the bleeping obvious. I'm losing my patience with the whole situation.

I hope you're right, LHABSOB (and you likely are) ... it's just that 2020 isn't 2018, what with the events of the last couple of months ... there might be more traction for this kind of thing than there was in 2018 ... btw, the comments to the 2018 article were worth the time to read, thanks for the link.

I heard on the radio that some realtors are not using the term "master bedroom" anymore when showing homes because of the negative (and presumably racist) connotation of "master." (so I guess my Master's degree from UT is offensive now, too?)

Just to be clear - I support the players and I support UT. You can do both. The same principle applies to the players. However, I have my doubts that some of the players support UT based on what I’ve seen. Would like to be wrong about that.
