For those trying to argue that the players were just expressing opinions and were not trying to extort UT, I do not know how you can still believe that. It appears there will not be a football season anyway with corona, so UT really should not give in.
"I can not continue to perform for program that does not show me the same and love and support I do for them." - Demarvion Overshown As someone who finally paid off his student loans this year having spent every year since graduating putting 40% of my annual salary to student loans delaying me for years from owning a house or starting a family, I would like to tell this f***ing c****s***** WHO GETS A FREE EDUCATION, FREE HOUSING, FREE TUTORS, FREE TRAINERS, A FREE GYM, FREE FOOD, A FREE DIET PLAN, etc, from the bottom of heart to go f*** himself for that quote.
HTown, right on the money. Until the country decides that "herd mentality" is the way to go, it'll be hard for any event to take place. I heard that herd worked well for the herd in Japan, for example...
Also, some of us actually had to qualify academically to get in the university for the privilege of going into severe debt, unlike Mr. Overshown.
He used the right word, "DEMAND." And we used the right word, "EXTORTION." The players have spoken. I don't care if there is a season anymore. It won't be a problem. I'll enjoy West Mall instead.
CDC, stand strong and send a message, or get run over. The best thing that could happen — and I am dead serious — would be for the Administration to stand firm, watch many players quit, remain strong and have it make every news and sports media outlet in the country. The Libs on ESPN, CNN, MSDNC and all the rest will freak out and call Texas racist (what a shocker, right?), but millions and millions — AND MILLIONS — of Americans will quietly be applauding. If Texas Football never recovers, so be it.
It’s difficult to tell what qualifies as real change. If he means all of them, he won’t be playing. If he means one (at the very least), I think it’ll be fine because UT will make one. I vote for renaming RLM and the other dude, can’t remember his name. Like platonious or something
Yeah, why change when everything has worked so well for the last 155 years for us non-racists white folks? SMH.
Pull that scholly today. And anyone else who wants to join him. A day will come when these kids grow up and realize they had an extraordinary opportunity handed to them that many kids would give just about anything for.
Let us have an egalitarian society where Overshown has to meet the same academic standards as regular students, has to pay for his own tuition, housing, food, etc and has to take student loans like everyone else if he cannot afford it. Also, we should get rid of their "cost of living" checks the players now get. Let us start there and get some egalitarianism going. What do you say @BurntOrangeLH? Seriously, I would like any player who feels they do not receive support to come say that to my face or to the face of anyone with student debt. I have multiple friends 28-32 years old that are financially crippled by undergrad debt... some were not as fortunate to get into schools like UT and they still have the debt. It really is an issue.. and this lucky SOB with a free college eduction is over here complaining about a lack of support.
What did the people of Arp do to you that would make you want to dump a bunch of malcontent puppets on them?
The feeling of his lack of support is what got me too. The one thing he better learn quickly is in ANY organization of any size the wheels for major change move very slowly. Just the fact of things.
"I get into a first rate school I probably do not otherwise qualify for academically. I get to go to college for free and play football there. Also now I get to benefit from my likeness and they give me separate 'cost of living' checks. Poor me, I have it so hard." - UT Football Players
77, are you saying a young lad that gets all of his University of Texas tuition, tutors, housing, meals paid plus a stipend ...and ..gets to play football is unhappy???
I want it all and I want it now, is what I hear. Same thing I hear from my 3 year old grandson God love him. Heck 5 yr old often acts the same. I blame his momma, not sure to whom the blame needs to be placed here.
Did you mean mindless egalitarianism? The way it was done was BS. A total mistake. And you're applauding of their extortion scheme that puts GOOD PEOPLE in a light THEY HAVE NEVER DESERVED tells me you are too emotionally impaired to be taken seriously. Mindless egalitarianism is the road to a society that is very afraid because the powers WHOSE JUDGEMENT IS ABSOLUTE will destroy anyone who even hints at a free thinking mind. The only people who ever actually tried to pull this off gave us the Soviet Union, North Korea, Communist China and Cuba. And the reason I bring this up is because the power of the federal government in the likes of Biden, Sanders, AOC and Beto will ensure that this will be our darkest chapter since slavery. You have imputed a rogue murderous policeman onto every white person who doesn't bow down to your assumption that they must repent for sins that occurred long before they were even born. This is FAR BEYOND The University of Texas. They want power and we all know it. And they know how to get it. It's by leveraging the emotional pathology of Liberal minds willing to gleefully kill all those on the road who dare stand in the way of totalitarianism.
Just thought knowing the cost of a bus ticket would be useful if he wants to go home as I seem to recall he had frequent "transportation" challenges trying to visit campus.
Really? Exactly what kind of love and support has he shown this program? Does he think playing football for a scholarship is showing love and support? What a terrible teammate he is being right now.
Collegiate athletics should have never been elevated to the level it has. We should have expected this kind of thing at some point, and to some extent it is our own fault. Spectator sports was meant to be purely entertainment for students and alumni, and is not essential.
I came to that conclusion long ago. The spectacle of mass hysteria over the vicarious pleasure derived from the exploits of strangers is absolutely pathological on some level. Not the "be true to you school" part, but the cheating, the arrogance of the fans, the vile behavior of the fans and the hero worship of the players over a game. It's over for me. I want UT to win. I like to see great players perform. But the rest of it makes me kind of sick to be perfectly honest. The older I get the more I want to decouple myself from the mob... ON BOTH SIDES.
