Agree. For far too long the NFL has let Div I football serve as a de facto minor league. High time for the NFL to set up its own farm team* system. *Although may not want to refer to it as "farm team." Someone might get offended.
''These proposed steps take into account the reality that, as a governmental entity, we must operate within the law. There have been many calls for us to expel a student who posted racist messages on social media, and while these messages are disrespectful and abhorrent, we cannot violate the law.''
There was a time I fit that description. Now going on 35 years clean and sober. I didn't deserve to be murdered like an animal in the street either.
Congratulations, Moon, No he did not deserve that death, which is far worse than the loss he was trying in inflict on a store owner. Tasteless joke? Sure, many are Funny? Outrageously
Floyd didn't deserve to murdered. But he didn't deserve to be lionized in death either. Unlike you, Floyd was not clean and sober. He never stopped stealing and drugging. He was a unreformed drug addict and criminal to the end.
Can you imagine the rioting that will happen if the medical examiner at the trial testifies that George likely wouldn't have died if he wasn't on drugs at the time of his death?
Please don't try to make us believe that you think the money grabbing race baitors would refund some of those "donations"
Well that's just stupid. If I was murdered before I got clean you could say the same about me. The chance to become clean was taken from him. For all we know that arrest may have been his bottom leading him to sobriety.
Possibly, but we could say this about anyone with a sordid record. What we do know is he was a prodigious felon who was in the act of committing a crime while also on an illegal substance that very likely contributed to his death. Does that excuse the officer, no. Does it mean it was murder, no. Does it mean that Floyd put himself in that position, yes. When are we going to hold people accountable for themselves? We all make mistakes, but Floyd was a professional when it came to making mistakes, over and over and over. It caught up with him, tragically.
Moon - For me it was Dilaudid and alcohol. When I got into treatment I weighed 152 pounds. I'm 6'4". I had that POW, heroin chic look going on. It will be 38 years October 2nd. I agreed to go to treatment because I didn't have anything else going on, and I had accepted the fact that I was going to be dead by the first of the year. I was actually very much at peace with it. But I got lucky. I am a miracle. I am living proof that YOU don't have to die for a drink. And while I did many things, for which I later made amends for, at no time did I deserve to die in the street like a f***in dog.
Floyd didn't put his neck under that ******** knee. It was murder. And again, your like a rapists lawyer slut shaming the victim because she had a sordid past. Floyd's past has no bearing here. The cop could have sat him up after he was cuffed. He killed him instead.
Taking Floyd in under arrest would have been holding him accountable. Not executing him. And now the officers are being held accountable for their actions.
And if the officers thought Floyd was dangerous and potentially out of control (because he was numb and immune to pain), they might skate the charge.
That's possible, yes. But so far I've seen nothing even showing resistance. And again, once he's handcuffed behind his back what is he going to do? I think the main cop will get hit with something. The other two may get less.
He had been arrested many times before, many of his previous arrests were for violent crimes. So he had a number of chances to get clean before he was unjustly murdered. Maybe this was the chance he needed to turn his life around. We'll never know. But to celebrate his life as if he had already turned it around and began to contribute to society is dumb. Not dumb for the BLM and Antifa scum who used his death to raise money and prestige, but dumb for all who celebrated a life that was in reality wasted. BTW, congrats on getting clean and turning your life around. I have no problem toasting you with my nightly St Arnolds.
Seems I ruffled some feathers with this? No one says he should have died. Nonetheless, should he be honored, canonized, and respected for his behavior? Help me out here. What did I say in my comment that was untrue? The K-State student's tweet was characterized by an institution of higher learning, Kansas State University, as "disrespectful and abhorrent". I would submit that Floyd's behavior that led to the police being called was as well.
There will be a trial and all the evidence will be brought out. Floyd did put himself in that position. The fact that Chauvin was a POS doesn't change that fact. Like I said, Floyds pattern of bad behavior finally resulted in the worst case scenario. You didn't put him there. I didn't put him there. He put himself there.
The police were called because he allegedly passed a counterfeit bill. Did he know it was fake or was it passed on to him from somewhere else. Another thing we will never know. Even the store owner wishes he had never called the police. And I haven't seen anybody holding Floyd up as some kind of saint. His history is well known. But again, his past isn't relevant here. It's the use of deadly force. And frankly, I'm on board regardless of race. The police have become too militarized, too trigger happy and too unconcerned about the lives of the citizens they are supposed to protect and serve. They were supposed to protect and serve Floyd, as well. Protect and serve him all the way to the courthouse. They aren't judge and jury.
I see your points moon and the police responsible will be tried. He did not deserve to die.Yes there are bad cops. But then I think about what the police face on EACH call, not knowing if this call will be the one they get attacked and maybe killed. Again yes there are bad cops and we should continue to weed them out and hold them responsible.
For sure all cops aren't bad. Most cops aren't bad. I think there needs to be a fundamental change in their training as to how they respond to certain situations. It's a dangerous job but nobody forced them into it. And the instances of bad cop get all the press. But when you pull a guy over and he jumps out of the car and takes off running, let him go if you can't catch him. You have his freaking car. You'll find him. Don't shoot him in the back 4 or 5 times. In this instance the guy had warrants out for unpaid child support. Sure, he shouldn't have run. But he also didn't deserve to die. Just add resisting arrest to his charges when you find him. And I could go on. Of course officers need to protect themselves in the most dangerous instances. But lethal force should be way last on the list in the least dangerous. Again, WE pay them to protect and serve us. Even when I'm the one being pulled over. If they find reason to arrest me then they protect and serve me all the way to the city jail.
Moondog, I don't know if this story has gotten much attention outside of Harris County, but it ought to. Combine militarization of police with some corruption and an over-reliance on lethal force and little accountability, and people start getting killed. 6 officers charged with 15 felonies in Harding Street raid | khou.com btw, I regularly communicate with Harris County Sheriff's Office and Precinct 4 Constable's Office (because they patrol in my MUD clients); the officers and supervisors that I deal with seem to be OK people. I'm less bullish on Houston PD.
