You may not have seen it before I deleted it, but anyone who thinks that race-baiting* is OK to be posted here, think again. We can discuss racial issues without inflammatory and contentious **** like that. The creator of the thread won’t be seen here again. * I’m going with the Cambridge Dictionary definition, if it’s not clear what it means. The act of intentionally encouraging racism or anger about issues relating to race.
I never intended to be offensive either. I did not know that was the definition . Clearly the definition has changed From my Webster's Collegiate it was from thugee, the Indian cut throats who strangled their victims That is the definition I have been aware of all my life. I can't speak for the one who created the thread but it is hard to know when a defintion changes so drastically
REDDIT went one step further -- you are only allowed to show videos, pictures, and data that portray white people as aggressors and oppressors. It cannot be the other way around because it now goes against site policy. BTW, China now owns Reddit -- welcome to the future see From ‘Made in China’ to ‘Owned by China’: 20 deals show how China is gobbling up U.S. assets
What's weird is that when I was a kid, it was considered somewhat rude to refer to blacks as "colored." I'm not sure when that started to change.
In 10 years, the term "people of color" will be considered racist. Humans like to feel that they are oppressed and will seek out a reason to feel oppressed if no true reason exists. Pity parties are very enjoyable.
Oh, duh. Should have known that. I once knew that. Well, if Reddit is doing that then this place is going downhill fast. They should ban all acts of aggression or whatever by anyone. It's all or nothing. Crime is crime. What are we fighting for? Don't ask me I don't give a damn It's off to Liberal land And it's 5-6-7-8 Open up the pearly gates Whoopie Only some of us are gonna' die
I worked closely with a black lady in the 90's when I first moved to Austin. As we got to know each other we started talking about race issues. I won her over when I started telling her songs that I loved from the 60's and 70's. Earth Wind and Fire. The Isley Brothers. Marvin Gaye. The Spinners. The Ohio Players. That was right in her wheel house and she knew I wasn't blowing smoke because we'd sing the lyrics when she'd play it on her little CD player. Anyway, I heard two interesting things from her. 1) I asked her about being called colored or black. She said she was Ebony. Ha... nice huh? She didn't seem to give a sh*t about it but understood that in demographic studies there needed to be some designation so she said black was fine with her. 2) Her daughter was trying to go to college and she confided to me that her husband was saying college was for white people. Her daughter was the first in the family to go. My friend was very upset at her husband over all of this. Her daughter went but subsequently dropped out. Why? She got pregnant. All true. I don't know what it means...
Into and through the late 60s, polling showed a majority of American blacks preferred to be called colored. And it's still part of the title of the NAACP
At the current rate, in 10 years, it may be illegal to be white. We will be sent to camps and either killed or forced to breed out the white gene until it is completely gone. If this seems farcical or like the plot of a bad sci-fi movie, it is not that far from what China is doing right now to a large part of its own population. And many on the left in the US want us to move to towards the Chinese model.
I think here they mean "Person of ..." POC used to mean "Piece of ..." but I think that now old-fashioned or out of step, possibly enforced by a fine of some sort.
