I admit I dont get it. Why stay at Texas if you hate Texas?
The NCAA has made portaling so easy now, doesnt it make more sense to take advantage of that rather than risk gaining the reputation of a malcontent or someone who is not a "team player." If you think you have a legit shot at the NFL, this kind of baggage will not help you.

And briefly to the broader point beyond just UT, I dont get why the folks who hate the US as much as it seems stay here. Moving around the world is easier now than at any point in human history. Why not go to some place that is better, where you will be happy -- like Ghana (who is begging for you) or China? Clear some room for the millions from outside the US who are dying for the chance to move here. Isnt this the perfect solution for everyone involved?

My question about them leaving, or not staying for the singing is do they plan on making it a dramatic showing, ie, will they gather with everyone (their team) and then leave as the singing begins? Or will they leave at the last gun immediately heading to the locker.
I have often looked at the team through binoculars to see who does and does not put up the Horns but didn’t pay attention to who wasn’t singing because I always saw several that did not. Stupid me, I always thought not singing was just because they didn’t sing. The not putting up the Horns would disturb me but we’ve sure come a long way from that concern now haven’t we.
And yes, a part of me does say “thanks a lot Herman”.

I suppose it's not a risk because they believe they have a chance to walk in Dr. King's shoes. To be a civil rights activist. And because they are so aggressive against those who would rather be slightly nuanced and not forced, I am coming to believe there is no risk at all. Earl Campbell is openly proud of the players. The head coach is proud of them.

All the important people are proud of them. Or at least some of them. The others may have the emotional strength to accept change in order to remain in the game.

In the end, it's the fans who represent the risk and at this point, some of these players (Mitchell) just don't give a F. He's going to openly walk off the field. What can we do? Not go to the game?

Apparently all he will say is, "Good riddance to the racists."

It will be interesting to see. Are they going to be pouting and just run away after a big win? Just run past their own happy, cheering family in the stands? What a sad state of affairs if so.

Will any of them do the "Horns Down?" Just writing that made me quiver a tiny bit.

Maybe they will have practiced their own little skit, like some of the more intricate, multi-player touchdown routines in the NFL.

Whatever it is they have planned (I have no doubt, they will have discussed it and made some kind of a plan), will Herman take their side against the singing fans?

I admit I did contact CDC as this was something I felt passionately about. And I was speaking for 3 generations of a UT family.
Nonetheless, as Joe Jamail pointed out when it gets down to it, I am nothing but a lousy $100 fan.

I am just disgusted with the tail wagging the dog. Let the chips fall where they may. How many of you go into the CEO's office and demand he change anything about the business he runs. Thats what all these "victim" players are supporting. How many did anything on their own time before this. Probably zero. First give me the free education and all that comes with that and now that I have it, I want you to do this and that.

Proper response, "good luck and next man up"!!

I called it extortion when I wrote to him. I covered the reasons why you cannot give into extortion. I also painted him a picture of potential future scenarios if he did cave in. It never ends.

Well, Joe, you and I don't agree politically most of the time, but all our opinions and our $100's thrown around now and again still count--all of us.

By the way, WELCOME THE HELL BACK. Your posts and insights about recruiting are second to none. And your devotion to Longhorn football and participation in the Longhorn nation is always appreciated, imho. :hookem:

TCU got former 5-star LB Marcel Brooks (2019 from Flower Mound) who portaled himself away from LSU.
When added to the recent commit of 5-star RB Zach Evans (2020), its safe to say TCU has never had a recruiting period in its entire existence like it is having right now

Will be interesting to see what Pattterson can get done with the upgrade in talent combined with the possible jump in character issues

    Marcel Brooks, LSU, Outside Linebacker

4-star WR from Maryland. They say we have a shot (the specific rumor is that Carrington is helping Coleman now)

Possible flip to us from Baylor
247 says he is about to get a ratings bump too based off camp stuff

    A snippet from 247 --

" .... Drones put up video game numbers in leading his Pearland (Texas) Shadow Creek to a 16-0 record and a state title. He threw for 3,390 yards and 46 touchdowns while rushing for another 825 yards and 18 scores. He has a powerful 6-2, 200 pound frame and a ton of twitch in his game. The ball jumps out of his hand and his arm strength was live all three days. More than that, Drones showed he’s not just a big arm; he’s a natural thrower and was accurate to all three levels of the field.

Drones can continue to improve mechanically and refine some things there but we love where his game is headed. He’s also one of the youngest signal callers in this group is still just 16 years old so he’s far from hitting his physical ceiling. When you combine all the physical tools, the arm and athleticism, with his high compete level, Baylor fans should be very excited. "

The class that included Norm Bulaich, Ross Montgomery, and Gene Mayes was an incredible start. I think Busty Underwood was also in that class. Bulaich & Montgomery both spent several years in the NFL. Gene Mayes remains the best OL in Texas HS football history according to Dave Campbell.

Then Wacker had that class of all 4 & 5 stars, but couldn't do anything with it. 1984???

Were they rated as 5-stars in 1966?
I am not going to try and find that so its on you

There were no stars, but that year, Mayes was the most sought after OL.

I would say Chris Gilbert was everyone's #1 RB, although Aggies will tell you is was Larry Stegent, who was a great guy but only top 5 in Brazos County.

Chris was not very big, and seemed much faster on the football field than on the track (same was true o Cotton Speyer). I don't believe Chris ever broke 9.9 in the hundred. He was so wirey that no one ever got a solid shot at him.

Bulaich & Montgomery were both much larger, coming in around 225-235. Both ran the hundred in 9.8, although there were reports of 9.7/9.6 with the wind.

Side note: LaMarque was 3A and Spring Branch was 4A, so Chris and Norm really only ran against each other a few times (Beaumont Royal Purple Relays, Lamar Redskin Relays at Charlie Dyer, possibly the Baytown Relays, and there was one down in Pasadena IIRC) .

cheated and still could not win.

In the summer of 65 I ran in the open division as an 8th grader in summer meets. When he ran in the meets it was scary - I was a skinny 8th grader and he looked like The Hulk. I beat him routinely which delighted Jack Mildren to no end.
