I'm looking at it from a standpoint of each position group. Like I said, I'm not considering injuries at this time, just the talent we have.

QB - Sam is good enough to be invited to New York for the Heisman ceremony. We have 3 guys behind him that can play.

RB - We are going into this season with a 3 headed monster at RB and even Danial Young is a damn good #4.

TE - Brewer, Wiley and Brock is a very very good trio of TEs.

WR - I mentioned this but we have Eagles, Epps, Jordan Whittington, Jake Smith, Kennedy Lewis, Josh Moore, and Marcus Washington. Add to that group Tiriq Black. This is a very very solid unit.

OL - We have a solid left side with Cosmai, Angilau and Kersitter, we have about 9 other guys that will compete for those last two spots on the right side.

DT - Probably the deepest position on the team with Coburn, Ta'Quon Graham, Sweat, Ojomo, Add to that Alfred Collins, Vernon Broughton that is a legit 3 deep without considering guys like Myron Warren.

DE - Ossai, Bimage, are the 2 deep at the Jack and Jacoby Jones will be the strong side.

LB = Mitchell and Overshown will be the likely starters with Adeoye, Dobra, Marcus Tillman, and David Gbenda providing backup.

DB - I first tried to break it up between corners and safeties, but these guys are all pretty much cross trained. We have Sterns, Foster, Watson, Jalen Green, Josh Thompson, D'Shawn Jamison, Chris Adimora, Tyler Owens, and now we have cook back. That is a very solid 8 deep. ce

K - We are very solid in the kicking game. Dicker the kicker and Bujcevski are both extremely solid.

I stand by what I said, outside of who we know is starting on the right side of the offensive line this is a very solid group. Good enough to make the playoffs. However, not good enough to beat Bama, Clemson, or Ohio State.

I'm not disagreeing with your assessment of talent.

We both have our reservations about Herman, but I have great confidence in his Coordinators, even more than I have in Herman.

    LB Terrence Cooks --
“I probably won’t commit until December because of the coronavirus making it impossible for us prospects to go see the schools I want to check out. Texas is obviously up there for me. I was able to see the school for junior day before the shutdown and I know a few of the players already on campus.”

Yeah, why stiff arm the DB when Regis can just swat him away? Remember, while he might look a little bit slow, he is 300 lbs. slow in the open field. :yikes:

Some snippets from a Nahlin Q&A

A CB from Va Tech announced yesterday that he was going to sit out the season and declare for the 2021 draft next Spring. Do you see this happening more often this season due to Covid concerns and have you heard any rumblings of Texas players leaning towards sitting out the season?
It will probably become a bit more common but I can’t see that affecting Texas. The NFL talent on the roster needs a year of quality tape as much as anyone. The best NFL draftable player on the roster - Joe Ossai - would crawl across glass to play.

How firm is Billy Bowman's commitment to UT? Is OU really making any inroads in getting him to flip that commitment?

This kid loves Texas. His family loves Texas. His HC loves Texas.

Would be interested to hear what WR recruits you think will sign for the 21 class?

Casey Cain, Ketron Jackson, Jaden Alexis, and JJ Henry seem like the best case realistic class. If it’s a three-man class then we might see some subtraction.

Thoughts on who is the clubhouse leader for camar Wheaton today. Stanley apparently has a good relationship with him....

I think LJ Johnson is more likely to end up in the class as of now. Wheaton is a harder read for me. I could see any of OU, UT, or even a late emerging team from the field. Likeliest scenario is Wheaton to OU, LJ to UT, imo. But Wheaton is a bit of a wildcard. It isn’t impossible he could jump in before LJ made a decision. LJ wants to wait.

Does there appear to be enough talent and depth in the OL that's on campus and in the pipeline to get UT through the swing and miss on the Brocks and other OL talent this recruiting year?

Tyler Johnson, Junior Angilau, and Christian Jones definitely would soften the blow. BUT... that means racking up in 2022 starting with Kelvin Banks, Devon Campbell and Kam Dewberry.

Assuming UT keeps all the DB commitments made so far, how many more DB commits will the Horns take, and from who? Does Anthony Cook coming back affect who might commit at DB?

One more safety. Still trying for Mukuba but he’s unlikely as of this writing. One more corner if he’s best player available. Cook doesn’t affect recruiting.

    Is Shemar Turner leaning somewhere?

I think he’s pretty open. The season matters. Texas has the greatest variability — could finish 5th, could run away with it, imo.

LBs on present roster are not an asset. Mitchell and a converted safety are not going to get it done. Herman needs to see what is available in the portal or get to work recruiting that position.

I'm not sure how our new DC will play the personnel up front. But, I'd expect in the interior DL to usually have one giant (Coburn or Sweat) plus one more typical-sized, quicker DL on the field in the interior at any given time. For goaline D, play them both at once.

Rivals says DT Ike Iwunnah of Garland Lakeview Centennial is down to us, Baylor Colorado. In their opinion, we are the leader in the clubhouse

Need to get the parents on campus so they can see what a dump MSU is. But the academics are not bad though not as good as Texas in most fields.

So I read at the Brainiacs they have been to Austin and UT (as their daughter attends here) and there is some other family here. Also Herb Hand has known the family for years, so Texas is still very much in the big picture. Academics is important also.

The irony is unreal. The Brocks had strong ties to us and yet they spurned Texas and their home state. They could have represented the greatest University in the Greatest state, and they said no. We might not get this young man for the very reason we should have gotten the Brocks. I highly doubt this young man has 1/10th the ties that the Brocks had to us.

Huston Street was a pretty good legacy. I remember when he went into FSU at their super regional and shut them down.

But he did not come to Texas to be merely a legacy. He came to win with Augie and be coached into a Major League pitcher.

It's a subtle distinction. Hodo is a legacy also as were the Clemens boys. But they all come for the education, the coaching and the chance to win at a high level. They would not come to Texas if we are at Abilene Christian's level. The McCoys and Shipleys were ACC legacies but they chose Texas. Hope that helps.

Successful legacy athletes are not just coming to Texas to play for the same college as mom and/or dad. They are coming for their best personal opportunity to be successful on the field, in the classroom and in life.

Nahlin on Regis - who we did offer
... Regis is receiving a lot of attention from college coaches. To the point, (aggy) had a Zoom meeting with him that lasted three hours. 180 minutes. Honorary poultry science degree. Bless that kid's heart. This recruitment still feels like a Texas- A&M battle, dashed with a little unpredictability. The 6-foot-1, 300-pound four-star (247) talks to UT regularly, and might've been turned off by the Aggie Match.com virtual recruiting style. Texas has made Regis a priority, and give credit to the defensive staff and Mark Hagen here. We give a slight nod towards UT to win out.

Here is potential center candidate Oyetade lifting with Tommy Dunn, who is listed at 6’3. Based on that, it seems that Oyetade cannot be his listed 6'3, which is probably the explanation for his lack of P5 offers. He looks like maybe closer to 6'0. He does report offers from ASU, Misery, Vandy, Virginia, Boise St, SMU, Penn, Rice - which suggest his academics must be fine.

    Nahlin on Wheaton --
"..The Lakeview Centennial composite five-star tailback has been buzzworthy of late. Wheaton likes to lay low and when he knows, we'll know. After digging we think Stan Drayton is gaining a little edge over OU running backs coach DeMarco Murray. Wheaton is a bit more like Drayton, personality-wise. We don't think there's a leader here, but UT and OU are out-pacing the rest.

    Nahlin on 2021 WRs --
"... With Louisiana native Casey Cain being the lone wideout in the 2021 bunch, there remains several questions about potential targets. The good news here is that Texas is squarely in the mix for Pompano Beach, FL three-star Jaden Alexis. He‘ll likely post his announcement date rather than an impromptu public commitment. Expect the crystal balls to favor UT at that point. The staff is making in-roads with Royse City's Ketron Jackson and McKinney North's JJ Henry. Jackson's ATX excursion moved the needle and UT should receive another favorable data point in that recruitment today. We’ll connect that dot a bit later. Henry is hearing from Tom Herman and Andre Coleman on the regular. He wants to visit, but has no issue making a decision if the dead period remains in place. Recruiting always boils down to relationships but we feel that one does even more so. Coleman is connecting pretty well there."
