Oh boy, you thought songs, statues and buildings were a thing ... now they want 50% revenue sharing ...

A group of Pac-12 football players from multiple schools penned a letter in The Players' Tribune threatening to opt out of fall camp and game participation unless their demands are met

The group is asking the Pac-12 to distribute 50% of each sport's conference revenue evenly among athletes in their respective sports

The group is also asking conference commissioner Larry Scott, administrators and coaches to "drastically reduce excessive pay" and end performance bonuses in order to help preserve existing sports

Pac-12 players show unity, list demands in letter

If you subtract the money donated to the school by boosters and subtract the expenses of running a program; there is no revenue to share...Most schools operate in the RED even with donations being accounted for. Bottom line in bookkeeping ( net profit )........These players aren't MAKING money for the schools.

Just say no. if they won't play they have to pay for their own expenses. If they can't then they can sit out and hope they make the league. I'd rather Texas lose with dignity than give in to these players.

We watch the name of the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.

I have been assuming from the dialogue about players being paid that that would effectively end the scholarship era. A large cost to schools is the cost of scholarships, and if players want revenues the fairest thing to do would be to eliminate scholarships and pay players who then in tern have to pay their expenses. I assume most players want to retain scholarships and then get paid on top of that.

The players on Washington State have been told by the new coach that they can't participate in team activities, but they're still on scholarship in case they come back or the situation changes. They haven't been cut... the parents are just calling it that on social media to make it sound worse.

WFAA had an interesting story on a WAZZOU WR from Lewisville that is one of those in danger of being dismissed. It includes excerpts from his conversation with the HC. It was on their website this morning, but is gone now.

Will we ever again see leadership anywhere with the stones to stand up this kind of bulls- - t behavior? Perhaps someone could consider the results of the stand by the Chick-Fil-A boy’s.

CA is currently in the 10-15% range by my estimates. Probably another month before firmly 15-20%.

These guys.....if they get their way they can forget the chartered planes, they'll be traveling to games on this:

And they can forget the fancy $5mil locker rooms and weight rooms. Might not have the manicured prescription turf, just regular HS football field grass with divots everywhere. Sweaty old equipment that they have to take care of and clean themselves. Instead of premium food, steaks, etc they get hot dogs and hamburgers or the crap HS kids get in the lunch room.

Or how about they no longer get a scholarship and have to pay for everything themselves along with all the books and food. I know I'm being somewhat dramatic, but take away half the revenue and a lot of the perks go away too.

They forget how much money is spent pampering their thankless asses.

The people who put these type of arguments/demands/proposals forward always seem to have zero concept of the effects and requirements of Title IX. It does not matter what any individual school or conference might come up with in this area, they must still comply with federal law. No one is exempt.

The entire thing is preposterous. Talk about “privilege”- good grief! I just drove by the gargantuan $50MM Allen football stadium and almost had to pull over and puke. It seems to me their ridiculous demands are in proportion to the outrageous facilities, attention, special treatment, publicity, adulation, etc.

    THIS. THIS. THIS.

80% of these kids wouldn't be in any college, much less a college like UT if people had not been giving them the Athlete-hookup.

    Not even ND or Alabama.

The architects and general contractor had to eat it all plus some loss of revenue. I am actually proud of Allen ISD for sticking to their guns and demanding repairs to an independent contractor's specifications.

I would really love to know the academic qualifications of all the athletes. I have two kids who somehow didn't get in yet they were among the top 3-4% of all applicants. I also wonder about the "averages" for things we see reported for incoming freshman- such as SAT scores, etc. I wonder if the "athlete-hookups" are among that data set.

If that happens, which it won't and should not even be considered a legitimate proposal, then first take away the scholarships and they pay their own way, including uniforms, travel costs, meals, housing, etc. The issue also concerns the definition of revenue. Is that gross before or net after all university costs? What about programs that go in the hole each year? Does that allow them to send each player an assessment to make up the deficit? If they don't pay can they be bounced off the team or out of the university? Today's players think too much of themselves.
