I too am dazed and confused about the misses on 4&5 star OL. I don’t get it.

But we are cleaning up elsewhere. Reminds of 2008-2009 football team where OL was the only weak link.

If you recall the tweets above sent out by BC^^^ about Stan Drayton's work at RB coach - LJ Johnson "liked" that series on twitter (and FWIW so did 2023 RB Ruben Owens)
Here are some quotes from Johnson --

“It’s actually really good,” he said. “I’ve been talking a lot lately with everyone on their staff. Coach Drayton, coach Herman and coach Boulware especially. I’ve been talking to all of them a lot.”

For Texas, the pitch is simple. The Longhorns are assembling talent in the running back room and they want Johnson to be the next step.

“Just the fit in the offense,” he said. “With coach Yurcich coming in from Oklahoma State and Ohio State, the offensive scheme is two backs and they’ve had back to back 1,000 yard rushers. With me and Bijan (Robinson) with Jonathon Brooks coming in, it could all work perfect.”

Bijan Robinson has been talking with Johnson and working on recruiting him to Texas. The five-star freshman told Johnson they could be a great combination. “Really that we can come in and fit in together,” he said. “It’s college football and running backs have short careers. With the wear and tear on your body, you need two backs to do it.”

    IT's own ranking of the in-state 2021 top 100
Inside Texas Top 100: Class of 2021 Summer Edition

They have Albert Regis ahead of Camar Wheaton
Here is what Nahlin says about Regis
"Regis is an NFL athlete with an NFL body, just needs average coaching and drive and he’ll play on Sundays."

And here is what they say about potential Center target Ezra Oyetade of Garland (#19)
Hamilton: At 6-foot-3 and 285 pounds, he can do one thing Eric Nahlin never could — dunk a basketball. Add in that he’s a strong-handed aggressive two-way player with good feet and flexibility, and you have one of the more under offered prospects in the Lone Star State.
Nahlin: I was closer to dunking than I was to getting into Vanderbilt, which is something else Oyetade can do. He’s a force at the position. A big concern with centers is if they can handle an interior presence 1v1. That should never be a concern with Oyetade. He’s athletic and powerful on the move, similar to your bowling ball guards. That’s also a position I think he could also play. He’s a wide player. The NFL might measure him like a refrigerator — via cubic feet.

One of the things that happened in the aftermath of the TCU news was that Carrington started following this TCU commit

Let's hold up on receivers that are less than .9000. I think our offense is going to be dynamic this season so we will get 4, 5 stars for 2022. They are already leaning our way with one already verbally committed. I think they see the QBs we have. Man, we are ramping up on good recruits. We just need results on the field. I think it's going to happen this season!:yippee:

Look where he lives. We are likely focusing on a two star in Rhode Island.

Besides, Herman ain't gonna take anyone from Viper's HS.

Hand has only landed one national top 150 OL since he's been here

That doesnt sound too good at first blush but Garth would have been top 150 national too if he had not had the knee injury which cost him his entire senior year. Also, most of Hand's signees have been 4-stars or blue chips (~80% blue chip ratio). Lastly, even though our only 2021 Conner's ranking has slipped somewhat, his film and camp performances look solid. So it depends how you want to look at it.

Anyone who doesn't believe that Sherman could take or have taken any of those and had them drafted in the first three rounds? Of course that is provided that Herman left him alone.

That's unacceptable in my opinion. Striking out in the 2021 class is baffling. I know there is still time. I think he is on a short leash.

He's a good coach. But at 65, he probably doesnt want to be out recruiting high school players

He gets sleepy rather easily as that famous video of the NFL draft showed. But, few know OL like Sherman. He was a lousy head coach, but he'd be an excellent OL coach anywhere.
