They did try and get him to portal (at least that is my take)

And, by coincidence, there is a dog portal app for that

Well, his blocking (or more accurately, body obstacle placement) did improve as the season developed. All he requires now is a lot more motivation.

    Great question JF.
I don’t like Urban, but I remember a mic’d up practice from early at Ohio St. he was screaming that’s average! We don’t want to coach average! We don’t want to be around average!
I believe Tom was on the staff at that time

This week, I had my fifteen year old watch the opening speech in the movie Patton. That about sums it up.

Now we know why he does not stick at TE which seems to be his natural position until you watch that clip.

Now that's how I would cover wrs if I were a cornerback! Keep jamming and don't let them run their route. Guess that's easier said than done but it's a good way to do it.

You might recall flaky Ron Tatum?
He committed to us then flipped to ousux
He ended up at a JUCO, and now Traylor landed him UTSA

It is amazing when some of these guys go elsewhere they become problems that Texas missed. Not all recruiting losses or decommitments are bad. Better to discover early they are not buying in before they sign.

Anthony Cook has withdrawn his name from the portal according to reports. It may be that degree is worth something after all. Better to be a valued contributor at UT than a star at Podunk U, also.

Not sure the 2018 recruiting thread needed to be bumped for this but good to know.

I'm going to wait to see how many players disrespect the university and fanbase by ignoring The Eyes.

It will be interesting how many of the fans do also after they see the libretto for The Levee Song. Pretty disturbing lyrics one can sing right along with the Eyes of Texas. Not what America nor Texas represents today. White racism is morally dead.

Darn it BO. You got me to look it up, the levee song, wish I hadn’t. Now it’ll come to mind whenever the band picks up.
Happily I have to say, thank God we have come a long way since that, the lyrics in that version. Sadly I have to say, it reminds me of some actions by my long gone relatives.

He was magic that first year

He was another in a string of "close second place" finishes for us

The important thing to understand is how that sits with our fellow citizens of black heritage. Most of the white citizens came here voluntarily. Almost none of the blacks did, were not paid for there labor, were treated as property and had their families ripped apart there and here. When they see a building or a statute named or honoring one of there former oppressors, it is tough to feel like an equal citizen I am sure.

To a large extent, this also applies to native Americans and even Chinese laborers who built the American railroads across the West in the 19th Century. It is simply time to put every American and every immigrant's culture on an equally respected footing. United we are a great country. Divided and hating each other we are less than we can be.

Hopefully (but doubtful) he realizes the Power 5 game is too fast for him and that is the reason for entering the portal. The more likely is he is pissed and will spin the story and blame the Texas coaching staff for either not recognizing his talent or Ash does not know how to coach defense.

I dont mean to be cruel, but losing his mom will have a bigger impact on the team

    Thought this was interesting:

Here’s what The Athletic had to say about the re-rank and why Texas still falls within the top 10.

This was the first of Tom Herman’s back-to-back No. 3-ranked recruiting classes, a group full of blue-chip talent that certainly raised expectations. In his staff’s first full recruiting cycle, the
Longhorns cleaned up by signing 11 of the top 15 recruits in their home state.

While the 2018 class helped Texas achieve three top-25 finishes and get to a Big 12 title game under Herman, it’s clear the on-field feats haven’t matched the hype. Like many Texas classes before them, this group went through a lot in a turbulent four-year period and experienced another regime change. But there were 18 future starters in this class, including 10 players who’ve started 20-plus games in Austin.

Ossai became a consensus All-American as a junior and third-round draft pick. Sterns was the Big 12’s Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2018 and is now playing for the Broncos. Only one other member of this touted class – kicker/punter Cameron Dicker – has become an All-Big 12 player during his career, which seems telling. But it’s worth noting Jamison, Overshown and five more starters are returning as fifth-year seniors in 2022. Their leadership will be critical if Texas hopes to bounce back in a big way from going 5-7 in Steve Sarkisian’s
    debut season.
