I always think of Deliverance (eventhough I think that was supposed to be Georgia)

Have you ever spent any time in WVA? Beautiful countryside, but that (and a lot of trips up I-79 to Pittsburgh) is about it.

The Greenbriar is really nice after Robert Dedman bought it a few decades ago.

The folk in the mountains of W. Va. and Georgia are very similar. The deliverance reference is apt in my opinion. These mountain folk are tight, secretive and all related by marriage. This is to say, most are cousins. ;)

When I was in DC, one of the Marshall's who worked security on our building had a cabin in VW. He took me deer hunting a couple times, probably bc he felt bad for me when I whined so much about missing Texas. It was very nice out there. But I kept looking around for "mountain folk."

Gerry Hamilton has a piece out on the measurables of the 2020s
The shuttle for Card kind of stood out [Mahomes put up a 4.08 shuttle at the NFL combine and Rondale Moore ran a 4.01 as a freshman]
Omeire also kind of gets your attention

QB Hudson Card 6-2.5, 179 pounds, 74.75 wingspan, 8.75-inch hand, 4.06 laser shuttle
    QB Ja'Quinden Jackson 6-2, 219, 80.5 wingspan, 9.5 inch hand, 4.61 laser 40
    WR Troy Omeire 6-3.5, 220, 83.5 wingspan, 10.75-inch hand, 4.37 laser shuttle
    WR Kelvontay Dixon 5-11, 172, 74 wingspan., 8.5 inch hand, 4.60 laser-laser 40
WR Dajon Harrison 5-9.5, 170, 73.5 wingspan, 8.75 inch hand
    S/N Xavion Alford 6-0, 182, 75.5 wingspan, 9.5 inch hand, 4.55 laser 40, 4.5 laser shuttle
    CB/N Kitan Crawford 5-10 7/8, 191, 74 wingspan, 9.0 inch hand, 4.54 laser 40, 4.33 laser shuttle

Just for comparison's sake to the post immediately above, here was Eagles SPARQ numbers, with his very impressive shuttle
He was just behind Rondale Moore in total score. And the day he ran, it was bad weather

JQJ says let me show you how far I can throw before I show you how fast I can run.

We know Omeire has lobster claws for hands.

Receivers are fast and shifty enough.

DB look to be fast and good.

I hope we are through with the "Herman cannot recruit" types on this board because he is evaluating and recruiting at very high level we have not seen since early Mac years. And these are all Texas kids, one might note.

4.06 laser shuttle. Awesome. Rondale territory. Card's shuttle time is very impressive. Can you say escapability.

Anyone else find it weird that Joe is always thinking of Deliverance?

On the roster, Hank Coutoumanos is no longer listed.
Which opens a spot for a last minute transfer without making a move on Derrian Bown

Interesting as he was an engineering major, but did he have a scholarship? He is listed as Squad.

So if a player opts out, is that treated like a medical year as he does not lose scholarship, but a medical year extends eligibility? How does the scholarship total change, if at all?

Just not sure this will make it on the Vegas Strip.

Those walk on schollies are 1-year each time
And yes he had one last season
Might still end up with one, we will see - while it seems late for another transfer, this year is different - we might end up with another OL

Ah, thanks for the clarification. I thought Squad meant no scholarship unless they were a preferred walk-on. But I guess "Roster" implies they have a scholarship.

There is someone out there who would like to play this fall, but I doubt NCAA would give them a hardship exemption unless their school cancelled the Spring football schedule also. Then again, to protect themselves, they just might throw their hands up in the air and tell the transfers to just go and play.

So anyone think Omeire might see the field this season?

Depends if Roster refers to the 85 man or 105 man roster limit.

Based on practice reports, we need help at center
Rafi Girhami is getting beat regularly

Omeire, who has been a great surprise at WR, unfortunately has torn his ACL in a non-contact event. True to his nature, he is regarding it as a minor obstacle to overcome and be even better upon his return.

Why I asked why Texas is not signing two centers next year. A good one in Houston is available. Centers are like QB in that the play begins with them and no coach should want to put all of his eggs into one basket.

But if Ghirmai is being beaten by Coburn and Ojomo, hopefully he is learning. If he is getting beat by Goram-Welch, than he may be behind the curve. But Ghirmai did get some playing time last year so ......

We have a freshmen center and we just got a commitment from another center so I think we will be okay even if Ghirmai doesn't pan out. My biggest concern is we need to get our numbers up on the oline. We have 15 scholarship linemen, we need to be around 18. Hopefully now that Milroe is gone that scholarship will be used to take another linemen.

Reports from practice is Jake Majors has jumped Ghirmai. In fact if he improves even more, Kerstetter may go back to RT where he was the best one in B12 last year for not allowing sacks.

Jaylen Garth strained a pectoral muscle 6 weeks ago
    Still isn't cleared to return.
He could be very good OL if he can stay healthy

His injury history is becoming worrisome.

Couple years ago, maybe several years ago, I remember a few pec tears or strains. I always thought that would be a terribly painful injury for a football player.
