Some info from TFB on Hudson

Hudson said Monday was the first time he had officially heard from the Texas staff and specifically offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich. “(Monday) was actually the first time I talked to Coach Yurcich,” Hudson said. “He’s a cool guy. We had a good talk, a little bit of everything.”

Hudson has yet to make it to Austin, only having been to Texas for a 7-on-7 tournament in Houston in the past, but that doesn’t stop him from showing interest in making the trip. “I would love to visit,” Hudson said. “My family and I want to come to a game this fall.”

Hudson added he’s “always liked (Texas’) gameday environment” growing up as a college football fan.

Early on, Hudson is considered to be one of the top gunslingers in the 2023 class. Right now, Hudson holds offers from North Carolina, South Carolina, NC State and Kentucky. Texas is in real early for Hudson right now and if they can use that as leverage there’s a real possibility of being contenders here. Hudson made it clear he wasn’t opposed to leaving home as long as the fit was right for him.

Despite growing up in Tar Heel country, Hudson told me he was a big Florida State fan growing up. Having rooted for Jameis Winston, Dalvin Cook and Kelvin Benjamin during their times as Seminoles. If and when that offer comes, expect FSU to be a big contender.​

 

This is such a tired argument. In the last 50 years there has been one champion made up primarily of Texas kids. Almost all other champions are made up of players from across the country. Most of those schools have a couple players from Texas.

Top tier recruits have always been hard to get especially since the interwebs made it very easy for kids to get out there.

Your theory is if we lock down the top talent in Texas we'll win. Mack pretty much owned Texas recruiting and studs still got away. How many championships did we win? One.

If we have the talent compiled from wherever it then turns to coaching. We have plenty of talent whether from Texas or not. I think Herman is doing fine with recruiting and if we don't win it has nothing to do with talent or where the players came from.

 

Understand, but ou is basically a Texas laden team and they have done fairly good over the years.

 

With lower admission requirements than your local carwash. No OU recruit ever says, "I got a great education at OU" or "The OU Alumni support is everywhere."

 

Can't argue that they have a lot of talent from Texas and they typically cherry pick the DFW area. But even then they have 101 players listed on their roster and I only counted 43 from Texas which is only about 42% of their roster. The other 58% is from OK and across the country from CA to FL.

 

How many of the 85 scholarship players are Texans?

 

I'm not sure. I just went to their roster web page and counted players. As far a I can tell the website doesn't designate scholarship or walk on.

 

Name me one player in the last 50 years that got into OU out of HS that was rejected by Texas admissions.

Hell, the old Aggies involved in recruiting have always said I took his SAT. They still ***** and question how we got him away from Rod Dockery & his dad.

 

I do not know of any who failed admissions at UT and went to OU, but my memory is not that good. There have been countless recruits though who knew they would struggle at UT but paid by OU.

 

I'm sorry, but that is not a factual statement.

Did OU pay players when Texas didn't? Absolutely

Did any player choose OU over Texas because Texas academics were too difficult? NO!

Were two OU players have their transcripts changed to gain admission? Yes, but Texas wasn't recruiting them because we knew they were bought and paid for.

But the other kids do. In this age of high mobility, there are no longer "Texas kids" who have never travelled over 15 miles from their home town. Also, a lot of kids are enrolling in Texas high schools from other states just to up their football skills.

It is not the days of Darrel and Mack any more. Also, while Texas has more talent than most other states, most of the top talent is from somewhere else. See Bijan and Jake, for starters as they are from a much smaller state.

 

No doubt that we picked up some good talent from other states and we dodged the Zach Evans bullet as well. Losing out on a good number of high quality recruits to out of state schools may just be the way we have to live in the "new world" . Yes we got spoiled with Macks recruiting ability and he is duplicating that effort right now at UNC. The half dozen recruits we have lost to ohio state in the last several years who were studs here, studs at osu and getting drafted just stings. Hoping TEXAS is headed back to a point where we have to turn away great options because we are full. Its a real bitter pill to see us recruiting agains la tech, TT, and those schools. I know the smoke blowers will tell you its about evaluation and sometimes thats true. The odds are much better if you have a blue chip that everyone agrees is a blue chip and gets drafted because the younger kids take that into consideration. Herman had some bone head hires with OC and with DC. Lets all hope the 2 new ones reverse the past rut we were in and we see more performance like the bowl game last year for Defense and a much improved scoring offense this year!! Hookem

 

Everyone "loses high quality recruits." No one gets everybody. Why OU is guaranteeing freshman defensive recruits playing time because they do suck on defense. Which team played LSU the best in 2019? Either Texas or Auburn. The DB injuries wiped Texas out. Offensive innovation was lacking in the red zone.
