LONGHORNS IN THE WNBA – OPENING DAY [Saturday, July 25] 11 a.m. CT - Seattle Storm vs. New York Liberty [Joyner Holmes] – ESPN 4 p.m. CT – Indiana Fever vs. Washington Mystics [Ariel Atkins] – CBS Sports Network
They are going to lean on her so much more this season considering she will be the only starter from last season's Championship team on the floor.
Joyner scored 2 PTS, 3REB, 3AST on 0-4(0-2 3PT) shooting in 10 Minutes yesterday in a loss to Seattle.
Watched the Liberty vs Wings tonight. Joyner did not get much playing time as Dallas basically ran NY out of the gym. When Joyner was in, the NY Coach was running a nonsensical “5 out-none in” offense, 4 players standing around the 3-pt line with Ionescu handling at the top of the key. A Liberty player would take a shot from distance, Dallas would get an uncontested rebound. Is there a can’t miss post player in her final year of eligibility that the NY coach is tanking for just 2 games into the season?
Joyner finished with 7 points (3/4, 1/1 FT) and 4 rebounds in 10 minutes. The Mystics (Ariel) take on the Storm tonight at 5:00 on ESPN.
She took the season off to have the baby. With Moriah Jefferson finally back to full strength and their selection of Ty Harris in the first round, the Wings released her and she’s officially a free agent.
When she was signed, they said Sug would be available for Wednesday’s game if everything was okay - she might get a few minutes and the game will be televised on CBSSN at 6:00 PM.
Sug got 9.5 minutes and was pretty solid. Ended up with 4 points, her first bucket came on a pass from Ariel...
Ariel and Sug are squaring off against Joyner on NBA TV/WNBA app. Thought this game tipped off at 12:00 CT - it was Eastern so they are almost through the 1st quarter.
She wasn’t a Longhorn and I didn’t really care for her histrionics on the court at Baylor but just a year after being the 3rd overall pick…
Let's see if the usual suspects jump on here and talk down on her, the #3 overall pick being cut by her team after a year as they did with Joyner. I guess she didn't have the work ethic or drive to improve on her game and be great.
College Junior year - MCL injury College Senior year - foot injury Pro rookie year - Covid and knee injury Pro second year - knee injury All while dealing with diabetes. Maybe she just needs some more time to rehab and hopefully a little better luck. Indiana is 1-15 so maybe they just needed to "do something" to look like they are trying and made her the scapegoat. They did the same thing with Betnijah Laney in 2019 and with a new start she quickly became the Most Improved Player in 2020.
Yesterday was the last day teams could make cuts before contracts are guaranteed for the remainder of the season. From what I've read, quite a few will be re-signed.
Does she have a similar history of assclownery that I'm unaware of? I mean, even with Baker, I'd like to see him fail based on his play, not suffer a string of injuries.
You need to go back and watch some our games against Baylor then. She criticized our program off the court and tried to trip/injure our players on the court, along with mouthing off to them. She was like her classless coach.
Yep! I’ve also watched the majority of their games. I personally think Charli should have stayed for her Senior season but being a #1 Draft Pick pretty much ruled it
Definitely could've benefitted from another collegiate season. I'm really liking the looks of our current roster though.
YUP. #1 draft picks aren't supposed to be sitting on the bench, rarely getting meaningful minutes. She was drafted based on potential, not accomplishments. Agree with Hornview, she needed to return to college. Collier was able to dominate smaller teams without significant post players, but when she went up against teams with post players at or near her size, she struggled mightily. Many of us foresaw that she would struggle against post players in the WNBA, except CC_Fan. But like brnkj, I believe this years team will be better despite losing Collier and Celeste.
