So my father-in-laws bday is Monday and we bought Omaha (for some reason I always hear Peyton Manning now) Steaks. We have never had them.
Has anyone ever bought them and do you have any secrets on preparing them?

I’m interested to know too. I love steak.

I consider myself a steak lover, but given the choice, I'd have pork.

Omaha Steak is an over hyped product for suckers. Now some of their side dishes are not too bad.

For a special occasion, go to your local meat market or grocery store and have the butcher custom cut your favorite cut of beef, preferably grass fed, black angus. (For a party, I had Kroger custom cut 17 large Nolan Ryan ribeyes about 20 oz each.)

If you are in Texas, the Kroger Nolan Ryan beef is good. HEB has really good grass fed Black Angus beef.

Another option is to go to a quality steak house near you and purchase steaks from them.

I don't have a Golden Corral near me, but regard Omaha on a par with their bee.

I only buy my meat from our local butcher but he has said a few times that he would like to try them so my wife bought them

    UPDATE:
Sabre and ii was spot on with their assessment of the Omaha (peyton again) Steaks. My father-in-law liked them but he really doesn't know good steak.
I would never buy them again.

My experience with the mail order steaks. Ok. Not bad, but not great. A nice option to have during the coronavirus shut down.

Sounds like the Spring Creek Barbecue of steak. Avoid it if you can, but if you just absolutely must have it, well, go ahead.

Funny about spring creek bbq. When they opened wife and I really liked it the two times we went. Since then have been disappointed on two subsequent visits. Don’t really have a place in Katy we consider outstanding anymore.

    Nash,

I like Rudy's brisket, but the sides suck. Nice drive out in the country to Hinze's in Sealy.

I was going to say Rudy's but not sure where one is in relation to Katy. Hell, for that matter though, any length of drive is worth it to avoid Spring Creek.

There is.a Rudy’s on I-10 inbound between Mason and Westgreen.

West side of Harris County is hurting for BBQ, as well as most every other kind of food.

Loved Hinze when it was on the road to matagorda. Great Texas atmosphere. Haven’t made it to the Sealy location but I will.

The one in Wharton burned down a few years ago. I’ve been told they reopened downtown rather than on the bypass.

I was told Sealy is the brother. It’s on 36 South of 10 about 3-4 businesses from freeway.

Well at least their rolls and cobbler are very good.

Rudy’s—Try their smoked pork loin, it’s pretty good.

I'll take your word for it. My last foray into Spring Creek was probably around 1997 in Bedford. Still can't get the taste of that dried out rubbery brisket out of my mouth lol. Hard to screw up rolls and cobbler though. They should change the name to Spring Creek Sides and Desserts.

There is a Starbucks now in Sealy. Almost crashed the car when I saw it.

Yeah I took wife to see the original but it was after it had burned down so we decided to go see the new one downtown thinking they had done the same type of establishment. Not so, didn’t even go in when we saw what it looked like. And it’s true the rolls and cobbler are good at Spring Creek but that’s about it now.

Goode Company Bar BQ on Kirby is pretty good. Not Mueller’s or Black’s good but probably best Bar BQ for greater Houston. I would go there every month or two before Covid.

It took Jim about four yeas to get it right. My last visit, I called Levi and told him the togo order got thrown away. It was horrible. Good BBQ is worth the money, but I have a problem with $14 for a brisket sandwich, chips and DP; better be really good and it hasn't been in a while.

It is really high. I agree. Heinz in Wharton was good but it burned down. Joe Cotton in Robstown burned down. That leaves driving to Oakville to Van’s Bar BQ or to Mueller’s or Black’s in Lockhart. Lulling has two good places. Pit Stop Bar BQ in Galveston is pretty good. I just make it myself every 3-4 months. Your limited in Houston if you want good Bar BQ. Meat prices are going up. Get ready.

    Do you like Gatlin's?

Have you tried Joe Cotton's at five corners?

Never been to Gatlin’s I have been to the new Joe Cottons location and it is good. Just not the same as the old place.

Other good bbq options in greater Houston vicinity:

    Joe’s in Alvin.

Mikeskas in several locations roughly between Houston and Corpus.

It’s a steak thread but I get it. Best ribs in Texas are at Luling City Market on Richmond just inside Loop 610. Brisket is also great, but ribs are sensational.

    68,

Have you ever been to Country Tavern? I have not been in a few years, but those were the best ribs I ever had.
