Texas and Auburn have to be two of the most disappointing teams this season. I assume Texas can come up with more money.

    Just my speculation:

UM would come here over Auburn even if THEY paid him a bit more.

I tend to agree. Meyer relishes the thought of taking a team that quit on Herman and winning the Conference and getting into the CFP.

Meyer wouldn't return Auburn's call. And I still think him coming to Austin is a longshot.

It’s all about ego with UM. Where can he make the biggest splash? It’s no contest. Imagine if he could take Herman’s players and win, quick, with them. That’s what drives the guy.

If Auburn and Texas end up battling for his services, Meyer will come here.

Beating Alabama carries a lot of weight and he' done it 3 times the llast 7 years. Highly unlikely he's in any real trouble.

They'll certainly have to after Meyer gets through leveraging Auburn or whoever against us just like SuperTom did with LSU. :)

We're not smart enough to fire Herman and offer UM this year. Someone else will get him.

I watched the Kansas game earlier today. After going up 10 - 0 on WVU, they looked horrible as usual the rest of the game giving up 38 points. BUT, if they pull out a win over us, that may be the the kiss of death for TH or at least it should be.

Auburn has ZERO appeal to Meyer. He covets an easy target, which means ND, USC, Texas. Texas has the easiest route to the championship. Texas has the largest budget, deepest pockets, strong fan support on the road.

It's Austin or Fox TV. He will wait us out. It's not about the money; it's about the ego.

Okay, I think you just hit on something. Dion is not on vacation at all! He is on a super secret mission to kidnap UM and hold him hostage until he signs the super secret contract that has already been tailored for him! You heard it here first! Just sayin'.

They are on the plane, no need for a flight tracker.

Meyer is devout Catholic, could he not assemble all the best "Catholics" (Catholic School Football Players) in the country and win?
USC also is a big draw for recruits....

What about getting the jocks to sing the Eyes? Can Urban do that? Will he try? TH is not the only problem on hand. A trip to Junction might help a little but I think Tech owns those premises now

    Zucker,

Not worried about Catholic recruiting. In Texas (he can & will make his living off Texas kids), private school kids may roll one or two out a year, and most of those come from Strake, Episcopal, St Marks, Trinity. I have a friend coaching at Matre Dei (sp) in DC, and most of their players are NOT Catholic.

It is nice to know that he is Christian.

    God, I hope so.
I don't want that dirt bag anywhere near this program.

If not Meyer (whom I find repugnant), then whom?

There are only two other choices AVAILABLE

One is a possibility; the other is the best possible solution, but would be costly in terms of lost revenue.

So, again, Whom is your pick?

While UM seems to be getting a lot traction, I can see this ending up like the "Saban to Texas" when Mack was on the gallows. UM may really want to coach here, but the forces that be, may or perhaps will, drag their feet, and UM lands elsewhere winning 2 NCs in 5 years. We end up with another so-called "up and coming" coach that had one good year at a FBS program and who we way over pay. Eventually, in 3-4 years we are looking for another "Mr. Right Fit" and none are available...again.

So what are the issues with Meyer. I'll list a few that I know, others pipe in with other data.

    1. Thug players. A Herdanez (sp?) later murdered a two men, and was implicated in a shooting in high school, and was also a star player at Florida. Question is how much Meyer either knew about it all, and how much if any he covered things up.

Percy Harvin was said to more or less run himself, with little disciple, and frequent, unpunished outbursts at coaches. In a possible defense, Havin did have for years horrible migraine headache issues, which led to him being in terrible pain.

Not sure what other players ran amok at UF. The Gators are often pretty high in the arrest to player ratio.

    2. Recruiting violations - I've not heard of any, has anyone else? Not sure how much any of that matters anymore - once players can endorse products and appear in ads, then it's going to be a free for all in terms of paying them anyway.

    3. Lying to the media - that's a plus for me, sign the man up now! I have zero use for media types, who routinely lie, then try to play the "he said this then, but that now" game. A bus full of reporters going over a cliff that has two empty seats is a shame of a waste of two empty seats. The whole issue about the crazy wife and the possibly abusive husband who worked for Meyer was garbage. If you have issues with your husband call the police, don't call the wife of his boss and whine about it, then put her and her husband on the hot seat for having to report it.

    4. Health issues, and loss of interest. This is a major concern for me. Meyer lost interest in football / was stressed out, after the 2009 season, and quit, then came back about a month later. But mailed in the 2010 season for the Gators - they were terrible that year, he didn't recruit much, and while Muschamp isn't a very good head coach, he did inherit a bad situation.

Then two years ago, Meyer had terrible headaches on the field, and decided to quit OSU.

Now, less than two years later, all rested up and aching to be back on the sidelines, he seemingly is making feelers about the Texas job. I wonder how long of a run he'd have here before the heath issues came back? If it's at least 3 years then that's plenty of time to win at Texas - most, not all but most, coaches who are going to win Championships and titles do it by year 2 or 3. Saban - year 3 SEC and NC. Meyer - year 2 SEC and NC. Can't remember how long at OSU for the NC 2 years, maybe 3. Dabo at Clemson took quite a while to build up that program but I'd say that Clemson wasn't a national powerhouse by history - was back in 81 when they won their last NC. Gus at Auburn won I think year 2 or 3 as well.

Point is, even if Meyer is only here 3 years then that's plenty to win. Main thing will be that when he does leave, does he leave the program in shambles like he did Florida, or humming like a well oiled machine like at OSU, where they didn't seem to miss a beat when he left.

Because the cupboard was full when he left. UM “gets sick” when administration and fan base start to whine about bs off the field crap
