I'm putting the O/U at 50% of players staying on the field, gathering for the Eyes after the game. What say you? Texas coach Tom Herman said Monday there is no mandate that his players stay on the field for the post-game singing of the school song “Nobody, from Chris Del Conte to myself to any other coaches, have mandated our players do anything,” Herman said AD Chris Del Conte last week called it an expectation that players stay together on the field for “The Eyes of Texas. Tom and CDC are playing word games so they don't hurt anyone's feelers. Tom is the problem bc he will not commit. A group of players said they would no longer sing it or stay on the field because of concerns over the song’s links to racist elements in the school’s past. Sam supports standing for the Eyes, for the school, the fans, his family. Another player tweets - "I thought we were past the song issue" (paraphrase - I'm not staying out there, Coach said I didn't have to) Tom says team not divided. Sounds divided to me and it will show on the field. Do your own thing, sounds divided.
25 % stay on field. And as soon as we accept that the Eyes will forever be different, the better off we will be. It will never be the same.
This. This. ..and this. Thx for saving me the typing y'all. Gutless coach. Embarrassing program. Who gives a f**k at this point?
Horn6721, I sadly agree with you. It will still break my heart though and show just how much TH has lost the team if in fact this does happen.
One. If the players won’t follow Sam after the performance he put in Saturday, why would they after the Baylor game. After almost single handedly dragging these undeperformers across the finish line against OU, they should have been ready to follow Sam to a group nursery rhyme sing along if that’s where he wanted to go. Or thought the gates of Hell. Instead they ran back to the locker room.
Except they are ranked and Texas isn’t But yeah, that famous empty trophy case of the Ags with the 10 year challenge looks exactly like the Texas trophy case from the same time frame.
TH didn't mandate anything. Gee, big surprise. I think that explains what's wrong with the program. A real coach would say "get your asses out there or you'll be running laps and sprints on Sunday".
After a 'misunderstanding' in Dallas, Sam Ehlinger explains why he stayed for 'The Eyes of Texas' | Hookem.com
Sam's trying to keep the team together. Ranked as the #5 team in talent overall and most talented B12 team by B12 coaches, TH (and company) has failed to deliver. Time to move on.
I think the real issue is not the overall recruiting rankings, but how TH has recruited. Texas had loaded up on a 7 on 7 roster while neglecting, or simply failure, to recruit OL and LB. We are seeing that come to fruition with how our OL is being pushed around and obvious failures on the defensive side.
Why would any of you want it to be mandated? That’s ridiculous. I have an admission... I have been to a hundred games at least in the last 25 years and I almost never stayed for the eyes. And I bet that is true for most of you as well judging by how 98% of us are half way to our cars by this time. we’d all be having a good laugh at aggy fanbase if they were acting this way over one of their cherished glee club traditions.
If a large number of the Aggie Corp band "refused" to play Hullabaloo or whatever it is, it would be a big deal to them. The Eyes isn't a glee club song and this issue speaks to more than just players staying to sing a song. TH can walk with his team in protests but can't get them to keep TT from hanging 56 on us. He's not the guy. And to the other post on recruiting, I agree - why the heck can't we find real LBs?
I have always stayed for the Eyes. Even after a beatdown at a o/u game, or a loss in the rain. Hell, I even talked my family into staying in the cold rain after the Cotton Bowl loss to Miami. My wife and kids to this day stay when I am not at a game. I don't have tickets this year so I don't have to witness any of this BS in person.
This^^^^^^ Is exactly how I would expect and want to be treated. Total honesty here. I was raised when you want something and you sign up to be a part of something as long as you are there you are there to help with their objectives and support the values, goals, and purpose for which you were brought there...not your own. Respect for authority, honor, loyalty, support. If you find yourself in a moral or ethical compromising position then you can leave and not support. This is how I was raised and how I raise my children. This business these days of workers telling employers, students telling schools, athletes telling owners, athletes telling schools, kids telling parents, etc etc etc how it is and how its going to be is about the most immature, destructive, ill- advised, and arrogant thing I can think of....Well, not really(there's alot these days we could point to)....but it isn't right, virtuous or productive. If you don't agree with something, calmly state your case. After that it is your right and responsibility to bear down and rise to it or say thank you and move on. I totally expect any coach, employer, or leader of any kind worth his salt that I would ever sign on board with would have the exact type expectations for me stated above^^^^^^^^^ ***We've lost the value, beauty, and blessing of being under authority***
If "Hook 'em" wants readers or clicks or attention, they should have written an article interviewing the players as to why they did not stay. Not some fancy press release from their puppeteers, but a real interview with real human beings answering real relevant questions rather than canned answers. WORTHLESS!
Up until a couple months or whatever ago, I would have assumed staying on the field for the gawdamn Eyes was mandatory and actually didn’t need to be because Texas didn’t have POS players.
I am a SMD (Small Money Donor). I make a small donation every year to the Engineering College and it is matched by the company I retired from. If this mess isn't cleaned up and I doubt it will, I won't be making this contribution anymore. Will that have an impact on the College? Emphatically no. But if they look at numbers of individual contributors, I don't want my number in the "yes" column.
Actually Aggy is better. The school stood tall and the players went back to playing football, only losing to the second best team in the country and beating the #4 team in the country; and they still do their "saw 'em off" traditions at their games even though they didn't get their way. Looks like they may take over the state, as alums and T -shirt fans will find something else or some other team to support now. I know as long as we have this coach and these players acting as they do, I don't care to support 'em. Hoping for change !!!!!
Not only that Maj, they stood in front of the statue to confront Mond, et al. when they protested to have it removed. That impressed me.
The world is upside down. Band and players condemning The Eyes Of Texas, and HF posters lauding the greatness of Aggies following tradition. Their traditions are mostly absurd, but I agree, they are better than Texas right now.
