This is more BS. Anyone in the UT band who will not play "The Eyes of Texas" should be shown the door and any scholarships pulled. I suggest CDC start calling high schools to see who wants to play at the Baylor game. He needs to tell the UT band they are OUT and he will get a band to take their place. "Turn in your uniforms cuz I need em." Longhorn Band lacks ‘necessary instrumentation’ to play ‘The Eyes of Texas,’ will not attend Baylor football game - The Daily Texan
Scholarships??? Hahahaha!!!! You pay to be in the band, in addition to practicing as much as, or more than, the football team.
f**k those snowflakes too. I've sang that song a thousands of times and never once ever thought of hate on anyway. I don't give a ****. My 10K to longhorn foundation is done. It's not much, but 80,000 donors at 10K adds up quickly.
Agree, more BS but I’m beginning to doubt my attitude will win out. I’m hanging in there for now but when it gets to “the Eyes will no longer be the school song because of racist origin (more BS)” then I will be done. So so sad.
And I would not care if there were two trombones, two trumpets, and two drummers, I vote they play,,,,,but do not march.
We’re a nation of snowflakes calling each other snowflakes. Look at us, melting down over a hoot nanny song. I just want to see some good ******* football. If we lose to Baylor, THEN I will melt.
Our athletic director should disinvite them, and pull their their ticket allotment Pulling schollies will be up to the Music Dept but if they dont do halftimes anymore then it seems to me it would be hard to justify such a large band. Those scholarships would seem to create a huge financial strain. I wonder how much money that Dept gets from revenues created by the Athletic Dept?
I can't believe this. I must be so out of touch with the school and the organizations I was a part of during my time on the 40 acres. Hell yes we could get a group of Alumni Band there to play the Eyes. I am flying in from Chicago and can bring my horn with me. As far as scholarships, that is a very small group of LHB members that get scholly's many of which are funded by Alumni Band members like me. Wish I could pull back the donation I just made last month. You don't have to search my posts too deeply to see that I lean left of most of the posters on here. But this is a ********. And snowflake maybe a insult to the snow that will soon be falling up here in Chicago.
All students admitted to the Butler School of Music are automatically considered for Butler School-administered, merit-based scholarship awards and in the case of admitted graduate students, fellowships and teaching assistantships. Nonresidents of Texas are eligible to be awarded out-of-state tuition waivers. There are no separate or additional applications for these awards. More than 60% of incoming students receive merit-based scholarship awards from the Butler School of Music. Academic scholarships and financial aid awards are available through the university's Office of Financial Aid. And the majority of Longhorn Band members are not Music Majors in Butler. When I was in the band it was lot of Engineering, Natural Science, Plan II and Lib Arts like me. But based on this response- today's band may be a lot of music majors out of touch with the real world.
Thanks for the clarity on that CDC's position with them should be the same as it should be with players. If you dont like UT than why are you even here? Then offer to help them with their transfer papers
Roll call band members who want to perform The Eyes. Those that don't should be immediately removed from the band. Seems pretty easy to me. Brennan Eagles will be remembered as one player who destroyed not only a football program, but also a University. Congrats Brennan. That should work well on your resume.
I put a note into our LHAB President Elect to see what she is hearing from other Alumni Band members and what platform we have with Scott Hanna and the LHB leadership. I know Saturdays are about Football and the team and the band doesn't move the needle for most of you but this one is personal for me.
It is probably a challenge to bring everyone in from points around the nation on short notice... however, I am guessing it becomes easier with more than a few days advance notice. If a gofundme is put together to aid with travel expenses, I'm more than willing to kick in...
Why is this even put to a vote? Why are kids dictating what happens here? Get a backbone Band leader, play or don’t play I don’t care. If you don’t play, don’t come back.
What would be awesome is if the Alumni Band (or a good portion of them) came and played, and the sensible student Band members, who wanted to, walked over and joined the Alumni in playing The Eyes.
I listen to SiriusXM radio CFB channel daily. This topic made the show’s goof ball question. We are the laughing stock of CFB. The goofball question was what song should the LHB play in place of the Eyes? The callers had fun piling on ... best one I heard was the Molly Hatchet Song ... Flirtin With Disaster ... I even laughed at that one
