@Detective Shilala, you do realize the players started this by complaining the song hurt their feelers and they were victims of the song? Like this was all avoidable by not adding the song to their list of demands.... it was also all avoidable by them simply not coming to UT in the first place since they were aware of the song.

Tom Herman and the players unnecessarily started a completely unproductive, divisive and stupid conflict with the fans over the school song, and I am glad the players and Herman are losing so far.

Not true whatsoever. As you can see I have over 500 posts and with this eyes thing happening for only 3 weeks then that would make it impossible for me to only have posted on the eyes threads. I post on the track, basketball, women's basketball, volleyball and tennis threads. I post on those because they are winning so like I said before..... as long as we are winning then I am perfectly fine.

But they didn't become "woke" until Professor Gordon spewed his theory.

And a decent coach, not Herman, would have told the players that Professor Gordon is a dumb***.

Yes I do. And thank you for reminding us who the real victims are.

Sure as **** not the player getting a free education, free housing, free books, a cost of living stipend, free food, free tutors, free dietician, free training, a free state of the art workout facility, numerous other perks and gets to play football for UT, while most of the rest of the students go into severe debt not getting to play football for UT and not getting any of those perks. Listening to a non racist school song 15-20 times a year at a school they chose to attend over plentiful other options certainly does not make any player a victim. Also, as someone who works in the real world, I can assure you that up until this year when the idiots that play for UT squandered it with a dumb Eyes demand, playing football at UT was CERTAINLY helpful in getting jobs.

Seriously, as someone who had to take bad jobs to pay off student debt out of college, I do not want to hear anyone claim these entitled player pricks who live on easy street are victims of anything but their own entitlement. These players are also taking spots at the University away from a HELL OF A LOT OF MORE ACADEMICALLY QUALIFIED TEXANS!!!!!!!!

I just have to say something because I keep seeing people say this statement about players getting free education, housing etc.. for most of these players, football is all they had. They worked their butt off for hours and hours each day to get where they are at today. Not to mention the beating their body takes and not to mention mental health. I guarantee you didn't physically put yourself through pain to get a "real world job" which is also a dumb term. Yes they get all of that from the University but they sure as heck earned it. You chose your career path and nobody judged you for it so why do you all constantly judge these athletes for choosing to do what they love? If your that mad about athletes getting all of this than maybe you should have became one and you wouldn't talk so bad about them.

Another thing about this "entitlement " mess. They are not entitled because that would mean they were just given something without having to work for it and that is not the case because just like you studied hard and worked hard to get where you are, these athletes did the exact same thing to EARN a D1 scholarship. Hard work does not judge and it may not be academic hard work but it's hard work regardless.

Calling these athletes "idiots" and "dumb" is so disgusting and their is absolutely no way you are a real Texas fan talking about athletes in that way. It seems like a lot of jealousy is happening and perhaps you were probably an athlete who didn't make it but for you to have so much hate for players that play at a university you supposedly love just shows everyone that you are not a real fan. Get out of your box and judging people off of what you think you know and actually take the time to put yourself in their shoes or possibly have a conversation and maybe you might understand. And the fact people are agreeing with you is beyond me and at this point your looking for something to complain about and it's very annoying.

Do all of these non-idiot athletes have the ability to get into UT without they’re athletic ability? If not, then “smart” would not be accurate. And, it shows when they can be convinced the alma mater is racist when it’s not.

If the eyes wasn’t an issue then why did those soooo intelligent players have to be told they needed to honor the university and stand for it? Because they reached on an invalid issue.

I was under the impression that student athletes had to meet same requirements as any other UT applicant.
We always said "Nebraska was only good because of lower qualified walkons.
SEC is only good because they allow lower academic standards."
I see recruits unable to register until they go to summer school or even junior college to bring up their grade point.
So, how are student athletes any less intelligent then any other UT student?

As HR has trained me to say, instead of saying the words BS, “You have demonstrated to me that you do take the position of players running the University based upon your previous posts as if you were very serious”
Basically is saying BS without saying the words.

They have to meet the required ncaa minimum. The minimums are a 2.0 GPA with a 900 on the SAT or 21 on the ACT;or a 2.5 GPA with a 700 SAT or 17 ACT. A non-qualifier meets neither standard. My guess is that some attend other shoaled because they don't meet these standards out of high school.

Nebraska allowed partial scholarships, meaning they met one of two requirements until they joined the Big12.

My wife was a D1 college athlete, she will tell you she didn't have a college experience until she graduated and got her first job. These young men and women earn their scholarship, room and board, stipend, and for some an opportunity to attended a university that they would otherwise not qualify for - which is a huge value. A UT degree can can change a family's outlook for generations.

And if you tried getting into Texas with a 2.0 GPA and a 900 SAT score, without the ability to run around with an inflatable ball, your chances of admittance would be somewhere between zero and zero.

Let's be honest. They're ringers. They're like the softball team Mr. Burns assembled in the Simpsons to win the Nuke Power Plant leagues tournament, when he hired a bunch of MLB players (funny how as it worked out, about every player on that show either turned out to be a dope fiend or a steroid juicer).

Virtually of all them would have no chance of being admitted to Texas, ATM, or probably even the Techs of the state. They're brought into the university, and a group of tutors and advisors work to keep them eligible to play, though a series of on-line courses where tests and assignments are done by others, old tests are given out, compliant professors are lined up to give passing marks, and so forth.

Texas is hardly unique about this - every school does it, and probably has since the 60's. Every once and awhile some player grabs a tutors butt one too many times and they go public with it, like at North Carolina 5-10 years ago. The school pleads ignorance, says they'll do better, the NCAA comes down on some school 1000 miles away, and everything goes back to normal.

I had to work 40-60 hours a week during my stay at UT 78-82. I was a full-time student and a full-time worker. It was not easy.

Meanwhile, kids who get a free education because they are fast or big are whining about a song that, in 2020, means School Spirit.....and UT.

Most of them would not have a prayer of getting admitted to Texas on their own academic records and intelligence.
They used to be placed in the “Longhorn Scholars” program not available to regular students where they were given middle school curriculum and high gpa.
I think there are players that are smart enough to understand how they got in have not opened their mouth. They followed but said nothing.
Htown appears to be referring to the players spouting tripe that have limited intelligence and lack the critical thinking skills to opine on the eyes.

People like the apparent troll JJ might can now go after Volkswagen and Volkswagen owners because it is their premise and argument.

I would say Herman and the malcontents need to go and they do, but the real bad actors in the mess are the feckless administrators that made terrible decisions and did not do their jobs. The feckless Chamberlains should be the first to go. Competent replacements will take care of the problems.

I have been through this situation in business numerous times.

Oh, I reckon it goes back much further than that. I refer you to "University Days" by James Thurber, in which he describes how a star tackle for the OSU football team was having some difficulty in an economics class. (Thurber attended OSU about 100 years ago)
    University Days by James Thurber
(scroll down to the 5th paragraph)

Rocks for Jocks has been a phrase for many, many years. Not sure how far back till you got to real student athletes. 40's maybe? Probably as soon as athletic scholarships came out, the ringers were let in.

I think the athletes at the service academies (West Point, Annapolis, and Air Force) have to meet the same academic standards as everyone else, and have for some time. Probably the same for schools like Rice and Vanderbilt.

Stop it because Texas is not the only school who does this. Everyone does and some probably go lower if they really really want a player. I'm also wondering how would you know anything about these athletes grades? Your just assuming that because they play football they failed to meet university requirements. You have no evidence to support that claim so again like I said, stop judging people off of what you think you know and actually find out first. I guarantee alot of the players are very smart who care about their education. Even if some didn't in high school it's high school and some take more time to realize it's important. My uncle was graduated high school with a 1.9 GPA then went to community College for two years and now has a P.H.D from Rice University. So stop judging people and you yourself know nothing about these players.

Okay that's you. Just because you did so means everyone is supposed to? They worked hard to get to the talent level they are at. Countless hours of work and like I said before, you worked hard in the classroom and they did so on the field so just because it's not your type of hardwork does not mean it's not hardwork.

The fact people are still complaining is ridiculous. The players stayed for the song which is all everyone complained about, now your complaining about the players having it "easy" and saying they don't know real hard work. GIVE ME A BREAK! Life would be so much easier if everyone minded the business that pays you. The obsession and constant need to talk down on these players is mind-boggling. Absolutely no point in you being a Texas fan if all you do is hate athletes and talk bad about the one's who represent Texas. Stop being so bitter and just accept these athletes.

You are correct. They don't really care about football like UT does. They don't want the "average college athlete" to end up an officer (as all academy graduates do) creating battle strategy and leading men into war. Most "average college athletes" would be the best infantrymen on the planet.

No need to complain any more, the fans won, the haters of the Eyes lost. The haters can go cry in their soup - they pitched a stompy feet fit, lost, and things are back to normal. Good times.

Band members need to be told the same thing - you don't get to decide not to play the school song. Play, or go, simple as that. Plenty of students at a 50,000 person school who played trombone in high school who'd like to be in the band.

Was great to see the fans and players waving Horns and celebrating a win. Just like the days of yore, such as that ancient 2019 season.
