Some quotes from 5-star Ja'Tavion Sanders who we are desperately trying to hold

"I'm feeling good with them right now. I just love talking to them."
"They've been talking to me every day. I talk with coach Giles and coach Herman."
"I have improved and I can improve on everything because I'm not at my best yet."

He's been all Texas for 2 yrs. Still feel good about him to UT. LSU seemed a threat early, bailor currently pushing. Hope we land him.

We have struck out left and right for OL. Maybe we can beat Holy Cross head to head for Austin Uke.

We're striking out left and right with OL's this year. Maybe tommy can beat Holy Cross head to head for Austin Uke. It's come to that.

I get it but ...... Uke does have offers from USC, Vanderbilt, UH, SMU and says he hears from FSU alot. plus Penn St (they may have offered in the last day or two)
And ou offered Strickland about a month ago

Here is some more on Uke
If there is something that will cause Texas pause in offering Uke, it’s that he’s only a shade over 6-foot-3 without shoes on. Uke, however, has an 80-81-inch wingspan and 10-inch hands with terrific feet, body quickness, and flexibility in his ankles, knees and hips. USC, Florida State, and Penn State are just some of the recent offers with three more Power 5 offers expected in the next week. Texas offensive line coach Herb Hand is scheduled to conduct a virtual visit with Uke on Saturday, and an offer is still possible or likely. Now if Herb Hand was being a thorough recruiter, he would reach out to Hawkins about Uke’s ability to be a quality tackle at 6-3.25 seeing as Hawkins was a 6-4 tackle that excelled at Texas and played in the NFL. Uke’s mom is high on USC right now, pending other offers likely to come.

More OL talk, following up on the Ute discussion one post above
Somewhat disturbing paragraph about the Herman/Hand OL combo

Former Texas and NFL offensive lineman Donald Hawkins trains some of the best offensive line prospects in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. That list includes Tommy and James Brockermeyer from time to time, Stanford commit Jack Leyrer and senior riser Austin Uke at Parish Episcopal. The list of younger prospects Hawkins is working with includes the next nationally recruited offensive tackle out of Highland Park — Robert Sweeney. Obviously, when recruiting the Brockermyer brothers, a staff would go through the parents. But there is information to be gained and key relationships to be built and needed with prospects to attain all pertinent information, and that would include a position specific trainer such as Hawkins. In the case of Texas, Hawkins not only trains some of the top offensive line prospects in the D/FW area, but he also played for the Longhorns. That gets to the point of the failures of the Longhorn staff recruiting the position. As of yesterday afternoon, neither Texas head coach Tom Herman nor offensive line coach Herb Hand has called or reached out to Donald Hawkins. Never. Not once. And let’s also add this, Jack Leyrer’s father is also a Texas graduate. So Herman nor Hand has ever reached out to the person that trains multiple targets/offers with parents that are Texas graduates.

    More on Lee
Lee is seen by the Texas staff similar to Dajon Harrison in the 2020 class. Wide receiver first, but a player capable of playing cornerback. In the case of Lee, the defensive staff will battle more for Lee assuming he were to pick the Longhorns due to being a longer-armed athlete with more high-point ball skills. Lee’s growing list of offers includes Ole Miss, TCU, Texas Tech, Tennessee, Pittsburgh and SMU.

Have seen on various threads that Hawkins is pretty cool towards UT currently.

Wow. Just WOW. ^^^More head scratching stuff about what appears to be failures in courtesy and failures in forming and nurturing relationships that would be beneficial to one's program.

I sense you havent been paying attention to OL recruiting ....

Anyway, if we exclude the punter, 8 of 16 commits for 2021 are 3-stars

I was being sarcastic, other sites have him as a 3 star, unranked nationally.

Oh my^^^. This is sad, shocking and sucks. No offense to the young men ranked 3 stars meant. Just that we cannot hold the attention, interests, and committment of 4 or 5 stars is shocking to me.
I know we often complained about Mack being referred to as "Coach February" because he was in the top 5 nationally in recruiting almost every year, and then his teams routinely lost (so it seemed until Vince came) to ou and not play up to the level we expected.
Now we have a coach who isn't recruiting to the high standards we have come to expect as Longhorn fans; and his teams don't play to the standards we have grown to expect over the past few decades.

Like everybody else, I prefer 4* players. I've had a few of the 5* disappointments. I believe that some B students and C students can drive the A students. But, more important, do yourself some educational surfing. Click on Wisconsin, 247 recruiting page, the section on Scholarship Distribution. 'Sconsin kicks *** on D with nothing but 3* CB's and DE's. And consistently fills NFL rosters from 3*OL prospects on both lines of scrimmage. A few 4* sprinkled in, but many 3*. Wanna make a solid coach hire? Start with Wisconsin OL coach.
