That would be a good fit for Mr. Tom Herman.

    4th_floor Dude, where's my laptop?

    So long
I've been looking too hard, I've waiting too long
Sometimes I don't know what I will find
I only know it's a matter of time
    When you need a coach
    When you need a coach

It feels so right, so warm and true
I need to know if you feel it too

    Maybe I'm wrong
Won't you tell me if I'm coming on too strong?
This heart of mine has been hurt before
This time I wanna be sure

I've been waiting for a coach like you
To come and coach my team
I've been waiting for a coach like you
    To come and beat OU
I've been waiting for someone new
    To make me feel alive
Yeah, waiting for a coach like you
    To come into my life

    You're so good
When you go boom it's understood
It's more than a touch or a word you say
Only in dreams could it be this way
    When you need a coach
    Yeah, really need a coach

Yeah, especially since Charlie Strong & Herman really put us back on the map :idk:
This program seems decade + screwed regardless of who was in charge. Pick your poison I guess

Hugh Freeze is a hot name for SC like Meyer is here

I think their expectations are too high. When has SC ever been anything in FB? Even Setve S and Lou H couldn't do much, and I doubt whoever replaces him will do much better.

I have no faith that the current Texas leadership will get its collective crap together and oust Herman and hire Urban.

Hugh Freeze has a giant sign around his neck inviting the NCAA to set up camp. He’s where he belongs, at a school with no academic requirements being run by rejects from Robert Sloan and Baylor.

This turnover at the Gamecocks U. might be a good opportunity for Charlie to get back into coaching at a defensive assistant level--a position he's quite good at. He's also a good recruiter of Florida and nearby states. I'd give him a serious look at a D position coach if I was the new HC at So. Car. It goes without saying that HC would be over his head.

    WorsterMan SEC here we come!!

Only time I seem to remember SC being relevant was when they had RB George Rogers. All American - won the Heisman and played in the NFL for 8-10 years.

    Worster,

George Rogers is one of the great success stories of the good college atheltics can do if the educrats stay the hell out of it.

This story came face to face from the coach who recruited Rogers to Columbia. Rogers was never taught in school, just passed so he could play. When he arrived at Carolina, he read and did math on a lower elementary school level. The school set him up with tutors and assistance so that when he accepted the Hype$man, he could do both on a 12th grade level.

Did they cheat? YES! What a difference that cheating made in a young man's life.

Including his Florida days, Muschamp is collecting $21,000,000+ in buyout money!

I actually believe that if Mack Brown had retired per the plan (circa 2011-2012), Muschamp would have done a great job at Texas. Plus we would have never suffered through "making the cake" - Strong, and "baking the cake" - Herman.

    KB,

It was never planned, expected, or anticipated that Will would ever be HC at Texas. That title was just a way to give him a pay raise. If things had worked out, he might have gotten a shot, but the $$$ wasn't going to be supportive.

He's just not a good head coach. After 3 years of being at Florida, his team got beat, on homecoming, by a Division II school they hired to come play. And not by some miracle, hail Mary play - Ga Southern or such was the better team.

Off to play golf for a year while collecting $$$, then another DC job somewhere, let the dust settle, and another head coaching job it'll be. Once you're in the Golden Relm of being considered as a head coach, you have to really stink it out to lose that status.

Couple months after 9/11, the wife and I were traveling and going through ATL. You know what they say, when you die and go to Heaven, you have to go through ATL first.

Any who...some douchecanoe ran through security. They emptied the entire airport. Who do we end up standing next to out front? George Rogers. Very cool and nice guy.

I work with some South Carolina alum and they say that Luke Fickell is choice #1 but they don't think he will come to SC. Interesting name they both shared is Shane Beamer- asst HC at OU. I didn't know the history but apparently Beamer (son of Frank) was their recruiting coordinator when they brought in big names like Alshon Jeffrey, Lattimore and Clowney. Also interesting they say in 2015, Herman was the choice to bring there but after losing to the Citadel, Herman got scared and backed out of the deal.

Shane Beamer? Surely no one in South Carolina is that stupid. I'd rather have any one of two dozen Texas HS coaches. If they hire Beamer, two things will happen:

    1) NCAA probation will be gift wrapped for Christmas

    2) They will long to have Muschamp back

Of topic but I’d say a defensive mind would be welcome at SC. They looked reaaaaly bad.

There are plenty of options, and the recruiting ground is very fertile in that state. I wouldn't call the Gamecocks a sleeping giant, because they were never that good to begin with. However, based on where they are geographically, this could be a program to watch with the right hire.

They have a rabid fan base used to mediocre results, so this could be a very good situation for an up-and-coming coach to step into.

Here are some possibilities for the new South Carolina coach:

Early potential candidates emerge for South Carolina HC job

"Among the most prominent names already mentioned multiple times to FootballScoop are: Coastal Carolina head coach Jamey Chadwell; Louisiana head coach Billy Napier; Liberty head coach Hugh Freeze; Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian and Oklahoma’s Shane Beamer, the Sooners’ assistant head coach for offense, tight ends and H-backs."

"While the Gamecocks will consider a number of candidates, sources have indicated that they want to look at offensive-minded coaches first after seeing the team struggle on both sides of the ball under Muschamp. If the Gamecocks turn their eyes back towards a defensive candidate, a source told FootballScoop late Sunday evening to look no further than in-state rival Clemson and defensive coordinator Brent Venables. Along with Notre Dame’s Clark Lea and Cincinnati’s Marcus Freeman, Venables is widely considered the top defensive coordinator in college football."

As an interesting note, Chadwell's current team is the Chanticleers, so if hired at So. Car., he'll go from one chicken school to another chicken school.

I'd take Napier over any of the other listed coaches.
